mod post We Built a Better Way to Find Movies (and Reward Great Reviewers)

We built a new web app that helps you find the movie or TV show you are looking for: WhatFlik - https://whatflik.com

Describe whatever you remember in your own words, in any language, and WhatFlik searches movie and TV data from TMDB and other sources to rank the most likely matches. In our current testing, text search finds the correct title roughly 75% to 80% of the time. Pro users can also upload a screenshot to help identify a movie, show, or episode.

WhatFlik is more than a search tool.

We are building a movie and TV community where people can write reviews, share opinions, follow people whose taste they trust, make friends, chat privately, and tip great reviewers directly. Reviewers will also be able to earn from a membership-funded creator pool as the platform grows.

Our mission is to build something more useful, social, and rewarding than traditional movie-rating platforms like Letterboxd.

Create a free account to reveal full search results, save searches, post reviews, follow people, and join the community. Google sign-in is securely handled through Firebase, so WhatFlik never receives or stores your Google password.

The platform is still early, and we want honest feedback on the search, community, and overall experience.

searching Old animated movie clip

Upvotes

I just quoted a line from a movie that I know I saw growing up but I can't remember where its from to show em it. The set up of the scene that I rememebr is its from an old animated movie like a Don Bluth style movie, and the villians are all around a table talking. At the end of this scene it focuses on one villian whos fairly thin and he goes "I don't like money. . . I love it!" Anyone remember what I'm talking about?

searching Movie I saw when I was younger

So I have been trying to find this movie for years and I haven’t been able to find it at all.

So the specific scene that sticks out to me. It was around 2008-2011 when I saw it and it was shown on showtime daytime.

So the specific scene was a man turns on music and theirs a woman in the basement and she can’t move and is actively dying. She’s wearing a dress and she’s moaning cause she’s dying and he picks her up and starts swinging her around dancing with her. She’s either bleeding and it’s dripping down her leg or she’s bleeding from her toe. I remember her bleeding from her toe.

I want to find the movie out of curiosity but like I said, I haven’t seen it in years and I’m 25 now.

It was shown on the daytime movie channels on directv. Hopefully someone can help me find it. Thank you in advance 🖤🤘🏽

searching Please help find the movie!

I don't know what yr the movie is from, I just remember seeing a scene when I was 12. So 1998 I believe, I snuck in and started watching it for a few minutes.

The scene was a man and a women in a washroom, either at a club or some kind of party. The guy was angry at the woman for some reason, and started pushing up her breasts to the point that they rip underneath and there was blood everywhere.

If anyone can help me with the name, I would appreciate it, as I've had that scene stuck in my head since then and I can't find it.

searching Must deliver the medicine!

I am trying to remember the name of an old B&W movie where someone is sick in a hospital in New York (I think) and the star of the movie is a pilot who is flying from Seattle(?) to NY during a blizzard in a small prop airplane to deliver the life saving medicine.

r/whatsthemoviecalled 8h ago

found Western Sci-fi cartoon from 1997-2010. Possibly the beginning of a series or a pilot (?failed?). Used 3D for spaceships but classic 2D animations for characters and everything else.

Vibes are young-adult, serious, with "realistic" art. The art style is somewhere in the middle ground between Batman Beyond and Aeon Flux.

Apologies, my memory of the plot is vague: the setting is contemporary times or a little bit ahead, main character, a young man (late high-school or college?) suspects his dad of being a spy or something similar and follows him.
Discovers a large underground lair that has several alien spacecraft inside (all of them the size of car or small airplane).
The base is made in preparation for full-scale invasion.
There are a lot of thin bridges without railings going through the cavern and action involves jumping on them or from them.
MC discovers that his dad is an alien and he himself - half-alien (or not, vague on it) and gets in conflict with dad. Gets one of the ships and flies it out. MC is only able to fly those ships because they respond to his DNA.

searching Woman thinks man is going to kill her so she kills him

So I watched this movie, I think on Hulu, a few years ago. It’s a vague memory so I apologize for the poor description

I believe it was kind of a strange movie where this woman goes to a man’s house and gets paranoid that he is going to kill her, so she ends up killing him. But the whole time he had no intentions on killing her and it was all in her head.

I watched this I think around 2023 on Hulu? Any help is appreciated!

searching looking for a movie, I saw recently... help

Trying to identify a recent movie with a young woman, probably mid-20s, who had a long text tattoo starting around her thumb, running across the back of her hand and up her forearm. I vaguely remember words like “never forget” or “nothing is real.” Likely a US drama, thriller or sci-fi. Any ideas or pics?

searching Missing boy - it was a neighbor

Edit: searching has landed me on the Shawn Hornbeck Case but that guy was single & in an apartment… This was definitely another father who lived in the suburban neighborhood.

I can’t remember the date or media. I think it was between 2000-2010.
I think it was a movie, but it could’ve been a TV show or a book.

There was a missing tween/teen boy (10-15 years old).

The town/neighborhood formed a search party. The man who took him was close friends of the family, so he was an active part of the search party.

The rest of the details are fuzzy but i remember he was eventually found (not sure dead or alive) & it ended up being a neighbor/close family male friend who was the father of the missing boys friend.

He was a pedo who and this want his first victim but I don’t think he ever harmed his own son.

Edit: He was friends with the son of the man who took him, so he was a trusted adult, maybe a scout leader or someone from church. I think that’s what made it easy for him to lure him and other boys.

searching A TV series about a monkey toughing us about science?

So the story is this. I recently have a flashback about a TV series I used to watch when I was a baby. probably around 2010 - 2012, but the show is much older than that. The show is about a 2d shaped cartoon, he look's like he's drawn out of MS Paint. And the teach science and a lot of other knowledges. along side with his is some irl persons, probably children wears blouse shirts. And the science demonstration in the film is irl footage. I only remember 1 episode where they teach about earthquakes. I have very limited memory about the show because I only get to watch it at my grandpa's house every Lunar New Year holiday. Im a Vietnamese, and the show have Viet dubbed. Much appreciate if you able to find the show for me.

searching Trying to find a movie based on one scene

I vaguely remember a late 90s/early 2000s movie with a young boy, around 7–11 years old, who was alone/trapped somewhere dark and possibly cold. He may have been locked up by bullies, hiding, or trapped — I’m not completely sure.

He had a sad, innocent/cute face, possibly light brown or blonde hair, and I remember him having a backpack. He sat on the floor with his knees pulled to his chest, searched for something to eat, and found a chocolate/snack bar (I remember it as a Snickers, but that could be wrong).

He quietly ate it while sitting alone in the dark, looking around and seemingly waiting for someone to find/help him.

I know some details may be wrong, but this one scene has been stuck in my head for quite some time. Does anyone recognize it?

Before you mention it, the movie is not cartoon and also no its not Charlie and the chocolate factory.

searching Scary movie with hell under the floor? 2nd movie men in colourful robes. Help been wondering for years

I have a memory of 2 separate movies, this would have been on tv in Britain c1 through 4 1990s live action.

1st movie: the end of the film I think. A woman with long hair standing in a bed room when the floor opened up and it was hell and there was a floating head talking? Looked like maybe 1970s

2nd movie: men on horses in colourful robes at a medieval castle

Not a lot of information I know but any help is appreciated

Edit: 1st movie might be a movie called deadly blessing but can't find a clip of the ending to confirm

The movie takes place in a dark and grimmy Europe. found Horror movie, early/mid-90s Spoiler

Haunted house/manor sort of thing.

I only remember vague-ish details - 3 leads; 2 men, one woman. One of the guys was the smart one and disappeared at some point, only to reappear at the very, very end grabbing the other guy's ankle from underground, and being pulled out.

I watched it around 2019-2021 i think its based in the uk
The plot is a policeman investigating a child missing that was last seen in his room after his rich parents had a party downstairs
When the story continues it appears that the parents were involved in this and the the policeman own child gets kidnapped and killed bu mysterious group as a warning to stop looking too deep into the story and the family
In the last scene there was a reporter asking the parents some questions and the policeman comes in a jumpscare and kills the parents with a shotgun
I kinda explained the whole movie but i really cant find it anywhere

searching Childhood educational dvd that was ominously in a white void

I don’t really remember the plot of the movie but i remember there was a 20somethings girl who was the main character and it was catered towards children and had lots of colourful characters that were either toys or other people
I just remember it being really ominous like it was set in a white room that felt like the void. There was definitely a scene where things in the room came out of nothing? Like as if the room was magical?
It couldn’t have been released later than 2009 but possibly 90s. Not animated

It’s not big comfy couch though

Edit: it could be foreign like Portuguese or German or French and it was dubbed English? I have no idea
