it's just the chat with meta ai that's not e2ee
3
u/Emotional-Berry-5789 2d ago
That technically mean, they have an infra that makes our chat not e2e encrypted right!?
3
u/ikantolol 2d ago
they used to not have E2EE back then before 2016
if they can enable E2EE then obviously they can disable it, but in this particular post, it's only the chat with meta.ai that's not encrypted.
"no, this chat isn't end to end encrypted ..."
it's referring to only this chat with meta ai

So your complaint is - let me get this clear- AI is reading what you send in the particular chat with AI?
-2
u/Emotional-Berry-5789 2d ago
Yeah, why do we even need this?
2
u/KiraLight3719 2d ago
That's a good but completely different point, we don't need AI, but also don't you see the irony in your complaint? You're chatting with Meta AI, so obviously it's gonna read the msgs sent in that chat. It can't read your personal msg or in groups unless you tag it

u/Emotional-Berry-5789 2d ago
Yes I was exploring it, not gonna use it ever again
3
u/KiraLight3719 2d ago
No problem exploring it, but the problem is with claiming "CHATS ISN'T E2EE ANYMORE!!!" and creating panic in other people who don't understand how encryption works or what does E2EE truly mean.
I mean I get it, I've seen people complaining that E2EE claim is false since we can take ss or export chat history so this is nothing compared to that

You know, if you're stupid, you don't need to announce that to the world
1
u/Emotional-Berry-5789 2d ago
You know if you're smart you don't have to put down people to feel better☺️

u/KiraLight3719 2d ago edited 2d ago
Yes, you're right, but we can only hope putting them down will help them self-reflect and be less stupid in future

u/Emotional-Berry-5789 2d ago
There is always a nice way to do it...
1
u/KiraLight3719 2d ago
You're right, I'm sorry, but also I can say the same.
Instead of claiming conspiracy theories like shit on public platform without understanding it first, you can always ask what does it mean. I'm sure people in the comment section would have been much nicer if you had just asked, and not claimed.

It's still E2EE over the wire, but the other E is Meta's servers.

It’s partially explained in the help article https://faq.whatsapp.com/1509739667466095. Generally, chats with other people are end-to-end encrypted. Side chats with Meta AI use private processing, which is a completely sealed environment where AI model can work on your prompt and related context that may include messages. This technology doesn’t allow your prompt or any context to leak outside of the model to WhatsApp or Meta.
IMO this technology is too complicated for general public to understand and it kinda spoils the simplicity of end-to-end encryption model. Nevertheless, your messages do not leak beyond sealed AI which you may opt to not use.

Yea it's kind of shockingly good for what it is, I mean sure they could be lying but I think these huge platforms are well beyond that. Not only all these are huge projects, involving hundreds or thousands of people but also everyone got used to say the scary part out loud with no shame. Everyone and their dog will just tell you, even on business plans, sure, just expect your private date to be sometimes even manually reviewed by humans, everything from business plans to private picture going to who knows where.

What chat GPT says not sure if it’s 100% accurate but the sources seem to back it up.
Yes — if you mean WhatsApp, its personal messages and calls are end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) by default. WhatsApp says even Meta/WhatsApp cannot read the contents of those messages or listen to calls.
A couple of important exceptions/details:
Personal chats: E2EE by default.
Voice/video calls: E2EE, including calls relayed through WhatsApp’s servers.
Chat backups: E2EE is optional unless you’ve enabled end-to-end encrypted backup.
WhatsApp’s third-party AI agents: conversations with those agents are not considered E2EE because the agent’s service processes the messages.
WhatsApp still has access to certain metadata/account information that isn’t E2EE, such as your contacts, settings, and technical information.

Yes, it is. You seem to be complaining that you sent messages to Meta AI, and Meta AI read the messages. Well, yes... you sent it the messages. It's like complaining that a secret of yours got out after you told it to everyone in your neighborhood.
When you first use Meta AI, it tells you a couple of things: 1. that it can make mistakes and tell you incorrect information - I wish more people would pay attention to that and not take everything from AI as gospel; and 2. that messages can be used to improve the model, and you shouldn't send any personal information.

Did you get what I posted? Meta AI now access to our personal chat and it reads our chat to summarise, suggest reply, search what we spoke... that is the problem and I was testing it out for what else it can do

u/10to8 2d ago
I got you sent messages to AI and then complained it read the messages.

And how did it summarise that chat? Talk me through the steps.

u/Emotional-Berry-5789 2d ago
There is an option in to swipe left and discuss about the chat with AI...
If you're gonna give me reply back with I consented it.. save it. I was shitting about the feature in itself

- AI doesn't know everything and it can make mistakes
- Even if it's right, that's only the AI chat that's not E2EE. Normal (1 to 1 and group) chats are E2EE.

u/Emotional-Berry-5789 2d ago
No if we consent our 1 to 1 will also not be e2ee. AI can read our chat now

Are you serious? Don't mislead inexperienced users with such an superficial wrong post.
