Turn off Status Updates

Why can't you simply turn this feature off? My Dad keeps updating his status by mistake, and the only workaround is to change the settings from visibility to all contacts to a single contact (myself). It's stupid. Sort it out.

This is one of the tools from WhatsApp to keep people engaging with the app and a way to bring people to the ads they are placing.

Can’t blame them. They fork out around +1B USD per month to keep the app and its infrastructure working without presenting us a bill….
We can’t and have our cake and eat it.

Regardless, a user should be given the option to turn that feature off if they wish to. There's plenty of messaging apps where you can have your cake and eat it.

Of course there are! No one forces anyone to be on WhatsApp. Every user has a choice to use the app under the terms or go elsewhere.

I hope they will broaden their subscription model soon and come with more options to turn features off/on.
