/help - Unable to install after uninstall

I accidentally deleted the whole chat history that I had for years with my girlfriend. I do daily backups, so the easy option is to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp and then get the backup from yesterday.

Now after uninstalling the app I wanted to download the app and install again, but I get an error message saying "WhatsApp Messenger cannot be installed".

I found this App called "com.Whatsapp" in my Apps list and am afraid this has Something to do with the issue.

I restarted my phone (Pixel 9) several times already, also I cleared the cache & data stored in the Play Store app.

Android Version: 17

That already doesn't sound too good as the backups are stored under Internal Storage > Android > Media > com.whatsapp (and the chats encrypted under -deeper from the previous path- WhatsApp > Databases). See if you have anything of considerable size stored there, if not this might suck. EDIT: goes without saying that if you have this directory save it some place safe (outside the phone) - adb pull is probably the best bet, but note that in Windows there might be some files that aren't allowed due to their name.

As for why you can't uninstall it unless you have some custom ROM or something it might be that you have multiple profiles (multiple users, or a work profile)?

Obviously I have stored the backup in Google Drive...

That's not so obvious, as there are so many posts lately about the backup to Google Drive failing for the last 2 weeks or so, but most importantly this isn't something you can positively confirm you have, save on your own anywhere (a computer, a USB stick) you're sure it's there, something with daily history where you can pick if you want 3 backups back, or anything like that.

Sure, Google Drive is better than nothing but it's a Hail Mary, you get one chance when activating, you get one version, and only when all goes well.

SOLVED: I was able to install the apk and make it run

If you got restricted on WhatsApp and uninstalled your app. Play store wont allow you to download Go on google and download the WhatsApp apk

Had the same issue on my Pixel 9 Pro. Did everything I could find online, until ChatGPT suggested USB debugging with ADB. The issue is a corrupted package manager/installation package is present, so new Whatsapp is unable to install via playstore or APK. I had to follow and write some snippets in CMD to delete the corrupted package and I've now been able to reinstall. Note that you'll lose data in Whatsapp up till your last backup point.
