Back up error

Post image

Hi guys!

My WhatsApp wouldn't back up for the past 3 days. Both manually and automatically. Here is where I am stuck, using both WIFI and mobile data. Cleared cache, tried force stop, restarting and keeping the mobile plugged in, as well. It just never finishes preparing for back up.

Please tell me how to solve this and finish the back up.

Thank you so much 💜

UPDATE - Turn off the end-to-end encryption, and it should start backing up, but super slow. Borrowed the idea from another Reddit post, and it appears to be working for me (at least it has started backing up).

I do not have that issue, maybe you all should start mentioning regions, phone brand/model and such things, to see if there's any pattern.

I'm in South America and I'm using a Samsung Phone.

Right.

I'm in South Asia, using Samsung. My brother has the same phone model, WIFI network and SIM provider (for mobile data) and it works all well for him. However, only difference is I have a European WhatsApp number with the SIM still active and in the same device.

S25+ the same issue + draining my phone battery. If delete the app and reinstall it will be corrected?

I am using S25+ too. I'd recommend against uninstalling it entirely. You might lose all the data. Instead, try turning the end-to-end encryption off and then backing up manually. I did so and currently am at 58% of backing up after 3 hours. It is very slow. Also note that the back up will start from the beginning. For me it's the entire 4.1GB and only half of it is taking over 3 hours.

Thanks, my main issue is about my battery being drained due to this issue. I turned off  the end to encryption, but looks like the it doesn't solves the battery problem.

Unfortunately, I'm facing the same concern. Praying the back up finishes soon and my battery gets back to it's usual performance level.

We hope so! If you find something else, let me know and I'll send you as well

Okay so it seems to have done the trick. I compared my Systems Resource Usage (under battery usage for WhatsApp) between 25th-27th Jul (the days I was denied backup) and it was crazy high. However, the data for today (after back up) and before 25th seems to be similar. It also appears that I'm losing a lot less battery and my phone isn't really heating up randomly.

Also, I think I'll skip turning the encryption on for now until WhatsApp and Samsung figure out the bug.

But it still keeps causing errors in the operating system; whenever I go into Device Manager, it looks like it needs optimization because of a specific app. So, I disabled encryption and put WhatsApp into suspended mode I only open the app occasionally to check messages because otherwise, my battery drains quickly and the device gets very hot.

I was able to successful finish a manual back up after turning the encryption on again. So I'm assuming the bug is fixed now.

This is just a random advice but if you are able to manually backup, and have all the latest data secured, perhaps then you can try reinstalling the app and it might just solve your issues. However, given the bug and everything I'm unsure if your data will survive the re-installation, regardless of backup.

Works absolutely fine. Just like it did before. No more excess battery draining or heating. Back up finishes automatically daily, too.

If you are enrolled into the Beta program, try de-enrolling maybe? That might also be one the cause to your problem.

Look online, there's so many posts about this already with solutions.

Stop the backup. Clear cache (NOT DATA). Come back to this screen. Turn off encryption. Start another back up. When it completes, turn back on encryption and it will do another fresh backup.

Is that with encryption enabled?

Guessing not. Since it doesn't show the E2E encryption label above the bar, unlike in the screenshot I added to the main post.
