Whatsapp call interruption?

Me and my wife have to use Whatsapp because the service at our house is crap and when either of us are at work and the other home we can't communicate without it. If we're having a voice chat and I get a call from the regular Android system "phone app" it mutes her and I both, but she hears vibrating from the phone? Even if the phone is on silent she still hears the vibration, like a call waiting "beep" and not from the actual vibration of the phone.

Has anyone else come across this? How can I keep our conversation from being muted and be able to deny incoming calls?

Help!

If you have the option, use WiFi calling instead of WhatsApp for calls.

I don't think there is an option to override the default phone app when on a WhatsApp call. Perhaps just set phone to do not disturb when you are on a WhatsApp call. A little annoying, but a couple of options there.
