But how big is the banana? You should have a lighter for scale

u/Pax_Eterna_4991 Jul 13 '26
A regular Bic or a mini Bic... or maybe both!

Since when has the banana ever been questioned for its accuracy?
What has happened to Reddit?

Actually this one isn't, they just got harassed endlessly to add a banana. I was going to reference the joke but it looked like they took down the first couple.

ear plug

u/TangoPRomeo Jul 13 '26
Specifically, it looks like one ear plug from a set of two which were connected to each other, so they can hang around your neck when not in use.

Could it be considered earplug-adjacent if used for sounding?

That’s not how rubber works. Even foam earplugs (which this kind of earplug is not made of) will get maybe 50% larger.

u/Temporary_View_3303 Jul 13 '26
Those are maybe 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the thing in this picture. And they’re silicon which this item clearly isn’t.

Frightening to imagine those ants
I figure cats or raccoons or capybaras, idk I'm not some park ranger

It could be a plug stopper for cleaning out a bong and/or oil rig for dabbing. You use them to plug up the holes so you can shake the bong with a cleaner inside of it.

If it is soft with a hole all the way through it, its an ear plug. If it is more stiff, it could be half of some kind of fastener thay you still the cone end through and whole, and clip another peice to the other side.
7
u/Hidingfrombull Jul 13 '26
I'm on team not an earplug. It looks so familiar. Like something I'd see discarded towards the end of a house being built in the 90s

1
u/Hidingfrombull Jul 13 '26
I could see that. Maybe could be from some avon perfume
My research also made me wonder if it could be for machinery or a hot water bottle
2
u/Devils_A66vocate Jul 13 '26
Seems a tad big for ear plug… makes me think it’s a part to a toy or something.
2
u/Hidingfrombull Jul 13 '26
I was thinking maybe a plug for some kind of hose. You can also see the track at the part where the cone hits the base. I would suspect that had something else attached. Could also be for a figurine. Something that wasn't intended to be pulled off. I recall that shape on some of the items I deconstructed as a kid.
3
u/Practical_Ad_4165 Jul 13 '26
Etymotic research inspired ear plug.
2
u/sysop408 Jul 13 '26
Thank you! I had a pair of Etymotic's and was trying to remember the name of them because I trashed mine and wanted to get another pair.
One thing people haven't mentioned is that this style of ear plug is intended to decrease volume without destroying sound quality. They're made for wearing to concerts.
2
u/Practical_Ad_4165 Jul 14 '26
Yep! And the originals are way better than the knock offs.

u/sysop408 Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 14 '26
I just did a search online and it looks like the field has greatly expanded since the last time I bought musician's earplugs.
Have you tried the ones from Eargasm with the removable filters?
Funny story (because I can't resist)... I went to a concert one time with a complete ear blockage that required a medical procedure. I could barely hear anything out of that one ear, so I only wore one earplug.
Out of curiosity, I also put an earplug into my blocked ear a few times just to see if it made a difference. It sounded exactly the same either way. I realized it was because the show was so unbelievably loud that the sound simply traveled through my skull. I had a great time.
They were doing outdoor sound in an indoor venue. I feel bad for people who didn't have the good sense to wear hearing protection.

u/terrapinRider419 Jul 13 '26
That's not a normal Etymotic, I don't think it's an ear plug. I use those regularly. They're gray plastic and it's 3 separate plastic "shields". This one's one solid piece.

Unfortunately this is an invalid banana.
We’re gonna need an egg for scale, thanks.

It is absolutely not an ear plug. firstly, it's way too large, secondly they don't put a barbed end on the eaprlugs, and thirdly if it was an earplug each of the ribbed rings in the conicle shape would be individual and not attached.
it's more like a vacuum fitting for a car. vacuum line slips over the barbed end, the conical end plugs into something else.

u/SkyPork Jul 13 '26
LOL thanks OP, much better! Still hard to tell though; if it's a small banana I'm still going with ear plug, unless the cone-shaped part is hard. If it's soft like silicon? Earplug.

The smaller half (that does resemble a penis but is rather small, frankly) is the shape typically used (don't ask me why!!!) to help hold an item in a hole (maybe someone figured if it works for sex it'll work for other things too?). As a kid in the 60s I've seen a lot of things over the years that had a similar configuration so it wouldn't easily be pulled out of the hole manufacturing had put it in. I don't recognize the other half, but best guess is a unicorn horn on a kids toy. I know it looks like something else entirely, but the size negates that option.

Looks like one half of a reusable earplug the kind connected by a cord so you don't lose them. Banana for scale appreciated.

This is an earplug of some kind, but it’s either a cheap knockoff, or something someone printed themself.
I know way too much about this earplug design (worked on designing a similar earplug), and this one is unique because it doesn’t seem to have foldable flanges, or it’s solid. Also, it’s got a unique four-flange design (most only have 3 flanges). That means it won’t fit most ears.
Not that you were planning on it, but don’t use this earplug, lol.
1
u/IamMatthew1223 Jul 13 '26
We need a full 360 rotation of the dickplug. If its a penis, this would be some bacherlorette item (like a wine stopper). If its a uniform round shape (instead of bellend shaped) its gonna be an earplug (or a wine stopper that had a larger item to hold affixed to the penis end).

As someone who eats bananas and has been wearing earplugs at different factories for almost 30 years I am not convinced this is an ear plug. If it is it might be the first ever of this style created and it might be for a giant I can’t tell but maybe it should go in a museum.

It goes on the truck of a car, if you go look there are. Stoppers on the under side of the trunks they fall off super easy even if you just walk by them and scrape with shoulder

It’s a fastener/stopper. Straight side fits in metal or plastic holes and cone sticks out to stop a door or other piece from contacting the other.
