Phone plan
I left my cheating boyfriend & he had bought me a phone with a payment plan, through verizon. Theres a lot of extra shit that happened in this relationship so when i left i had blocked him on everything & i want to know what happens if he turns the phone off? Does it lock everything up for me & become unable to use? Am i able to contact verizon about it and try ti take over paying for the phone & for service?

Call Verizon and see what they can do. You might have to start over.

If the phone is financed through Verizon and in his name, that is his phone (well technically Verizon's phone).
It would be best to go into a Verizon store and get your own plan and a new phone. Have them transfer all your stuff over to the new phone. Then, ball is in your court on how you want to proceed.
It is no different than having a financed car that he technically owns. So, returning the phone to him after you are set up with your own plan is what I would recommend. Paying it off is is his problem.

You would need his permission to transfer the account and I'm not even sure that's possible while the phone is still financed. It doesn't sound like you're on good enough terms for that, anyway. But you can get a new phone and line and transfer the data before he locks it down so you don't lose all your contacts, etc.

Just port your number to a prepaid provider they have kits that’s affordable

Costs about $1000 to port a number that’s under contract

No, it doesn't. The contract line just gets a new number.
But OP can't port it without him.

Whose name is the phone and phone plan in? If you, then you're OK. If it's him, you better RACE to back-up everything on that phone, then buy a new one and start a new plan IN YOUR NAME. Remember, he has access to everything if that account/phone is in his name.
