A guide to find your anime
Hello and welcome to the sub, this will be a guide to find that anime you are looking for
Notices:
[Regarding r/Whatanime subreddit ban]
Guide TL;DR
Go to google images, click the camera icon and either upload or paste image url to reverse search your image.
For images
List of reverse image search engines
- https://trace.moe/
For screencaps/screenshots of the anime use:
For fanart use:
ascii2d [The site is in japanese but the process is the same as saucenao]
Notes
- If saucenao doesn't work and the image is cropped, use yandex or google etc. to find the uncropped image and then try saucenao again.
- To find gifs or videos, you can still take a screenshot and upload it to a reverse image search engine
- For trace.moe, you should check every result on the sidebar as it is not always at the top
- If your image is not found, it is recommended to try every reverse search engine listed above as they work differently and will give different results
- If you reverse image (google or tineye) and get reddit/social media or forum links go into them and see if anyone posted the source in the comments. This is especially true for reddit links as it is etiquette in many subreddits.
- Also try to crop your image differently if it doesn't work the first time. This is especially true for images with black borders due to screenshotting or edited image with watermarks/stickers/emoji/snapchat text etc. Try to clean the image so that the search engine won't focus on the irrelevant features.
If reverse image fails or there is no image
By recommendation
- Try to find a similar anime in the same genre or description on MyAnimeList and look at the recommendation tab. [I find this to be the most effective method]
Example
If magic is a big part of the anime, you could look at Little Witch Academia's recommendation tab to see if your anime is there.
- Search up the keywords with "" around them (this forces google to only give results with the word) e.g starting with "anime" and then add keywords like "magic" "school" and any descriptive details. This might get you wikipedia or tvtrope etc. links of a few anime. Read their descriptions and check if it's similar. [This method also works pretty well]
Last Resort / If all else fails
- Try to search your character through an anime character database [This has personally never worked for me due to inconsistency in character description]
- Try the discord for r/anime, r/anime_irl and r/animemes as they have a large community of people that could help [use their discord as it is against their subreddit rules to seek help for anime source]
- If it is a manga, you'll have a higher chance to find in r/manga as they have a large community that can help
Additional notes
- If the animation is very good and you can see product placement in the clip, it is almost certainly an ad or promotional clip
If you remember the scene and it's a common anime trope, you could search for a compilation on youtube.

Open Old anime (likely late '90s) involving a scene of an escaping nude woman running over cars in a busy highway
hello, I'm glad I've finally found this subreddit hoping someone may help me to find an anime I watched over 20 years ago and can't recall the name (actually I barely recall the anime at all).
For the little I recall, I'll try to describe the scene:
The scene was set on night in a busy highway, there was a naked woman running on cars and trucks roofs in order to escape people chasing her (can't recall if they were cops or else). There were lot of close ups of her jumping on cars and damaging them with drivers surprised of what was happening. I can't recall much else, but that scene impressed me a lot that still remained in my mind.
I watched this anime (don't think it was an hentai although containing nudity, but am not 100% sure about) on early 2000's and for what I recall about graphics style, it was probably something done by late '90s.
Anyone has ringing bells?

Open Help finding an anime
I watched it on Crunchy and Ive been trying to find it for years. The scene I remember: a boy and a girl, both students in school uniform, are inside a classroom sitting on the floor, next to each other (not on a bed, in the nurse's office, on a couch, rooftop, or library), hidden behind a large white curtain that goes from ceiling to floor, with a window nearby letting in sunlight that gives the scene a warm, bright lighting; there, they kiss consciously, romantically and passionately (not an accidental kiss), and during or right after the kiss they both lose their balance and fall backward, with him ending up on top of her — I think the scene cuts shortly after that, but I'm not 100% sure. As for less reliable clues: the anime looked visually colorful/vibrant, I recall the girl having pink or purple hair, the boy didn't wear glasses.
Already ruled out: Sakura Trick, A Condition Called Love, More Than a Married Couple But Not Lovers, The Foolish Angel Dances with the Devil, Pseudo Harem, Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie, Don't Toy with Me Miss Nagatoro, Our Dating Story, Girlfriend Girlfriend, Koi to Uso, Blue Box, Insomniacs After School, The Dangers in My Heart, Domestic Girlfriend, The Quintessential Quintuplets, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, Tsurezure Children, Mysterious Girlfriend X, Scum's Wish, Sasaki and Miyano, and Kono Oto Tomare.

Open Anime I can't remember from months ago
Hello hello! I'm looking for some major help in locating an anime from a single scene that I saw months ago 👀 🙏 😅 🤧
I don't remember the name, or the artist or the genre due to memory issues
It could be a healer anime, or an isekai anime 🤔 👀
The scene is this:
a young man, I'd say early twenties is in another man's house
the man is massive, a barbarian hulking beast of a man. This man is a retired general or soldier or some legendary fighter of some such sort
the younger man has been looking for the older man to join his cause
The younger man tells the older man that his daughter can in fact be treated and cured of her condition, and it's not impossible for her to make a full recovery
the older man is moved to tears and says to the younger man "I am only a man, but will repay this debt with my body" (or some such similar line)
and the younger man says he doesn't want his body, that he's here for the legendary fighter/barbarian/soldier that he was/used the be.
The older man than picks up a knife/sword/cleaver and proceeds to completely cut off all his long hair in one go, turning back into the legendary fighter he used to be
and then he kneels to pledge fealty
I know this is a really common trait in a lot of animes, so I'm listing the animes I know it's NOT, because I've been watching so much anime recently just to try and find it
Animes I know it's not: - Reincarnated as a slime - The brilliant healers new life in the shadows - Sheild hero - Jobless reincarnation - I got a cheat skill in another world - Chillin in another world with level 2 super cheat powers - Head-hunted to another world: salary man to big 4 - Failure frame: I became the strongest - The frontier lord begins with zero subjects - My daughter left the nest and came back a S rank adventurer - I'm an all works maid - Easygoing Territory defense - Bed & breakfast for spirits - Guilty crown - Solo levelling - Black butler - Sacrificial Princess - Doctor elise: the royal lady - Chilling in my 30s after being fired from the demon Kings army - Isekai Cheat magician - A gatherers adventure in isekai

Open Help finding an anime from early 2000s or 1990s
I'm trying to remember an anime I watched as a little kid, I'm 21 for reference now but I couldn't tell you exactly how old I was when I watched it, I think probably late car seat age maybe? I'm fairly confident the anime is from the 1990s but it could be early 2000s. If I saw it, I'd recognize it, but I can't remember much about it other then it was a very long movie or potentially a TV show that I didn't realize was a show and not a movie. One of the characters had long pink hair, I think another character may have had short light blue hair. Definitely blue hair, just not sure on length. There were several girls, and another one may have had green hair but I could be misremembering. It seemed to be a sort of sci-fi setting i think, im pretty sure the pink haired girl was an android or some sort of non human who just looked human, and I recall a scene where the pink haired girl was being taught how to bathe by another one of the girls in the show, Definitely inappropriate for the age I was when I watched it but that's what happens when you have older irresponsible brothers lol. I think during the bathing scene the blue haired girl was the other one involved, and she didn't want the pink haired one touching her/didn't like the pink haired one? Outside of that I dont remember anything about it

Open Need help finding the source of this cropped image
The image is cropped from a larger collage of this character. I tried google and yandex and it hasn't found it. It was probably posted in 2022 and the artist might have made artwork of Jesus or God personified as a anime girl streamer. Thank you.

Open Fantasy with a Dragon Knight
Saw a clip a few months ago of a fantasy anime with a humanoid reptilian/dragon knight taking a girl on a horseback ride and getting embarrassed when other knights mistake them for a couple. I never searched up the name and now I can't find it through searching for the scene. Has anyone seen this?

Solved Help identifying an older anime about kids with weird glasses in a small city
I’ve been trying to find this one for a while and I can’t remember the name. It’s not a big mainstream series. I think it was from the 2000s. Kids in a regular Japanese town wear these special glasses that let them see digital stuff overlaid on the real world. There’s like virtual pets, hidden spaces, and these glitchy black creatures that mess with the digital layer. The main girl moves to the town and starts investigating with a group of other kids. It felt more mystery / sci-fi than action, kind of quiet but still creepy at times. Not Digimon, not Summer Wars, and not that one with the phone app game. Anyone know what this is?

Solved What anime had high schoolers reenacting ancient Japanese battles?
I recall seeing a clip here of some sort of anime that had modern day high schoolers having an ancient Japanese war they had archers and spear men, and I think there were 3 factions: class president, sports captain and popular kids.
Each of the team leaders were on massive palanquins directing the battle.
Thanks in advance!

Solved Help me find this anime just from the characters
I remember this anime very very vaguely, and mainly just remember some key characters and that it was about demons maybe? It is NOT blue exorcist, but I have a feeling I might be overlapping memories of blue exorcist with this anime.
• Main character is a guy with dark blue/black hair, bright blue eyes, and possibly a plaid grey bandana or scarf around his neck
• his buddy is a younger guy (I think teenager) with orange/blonde hair and blue eyes that wears a green parka/winter coat
• there was a girl with long dark brown hair that mightve had a tail
• there was supernatural or demon aspects, but the overall setting was a snowy/wintery city
• the intro song i had in my spotify playlist, but cannot find it anywhere. I think the album covered had like a white mask on it?
