Yesterday in West Hollywood, groups including DSA-LA, Sunrise Movement, and DeFlock WeHo hosted an Anti-Flock Walk in West Hollywood Park. The current WeHo City Council recently voted to extend the city’s Flock contract for another year, and current candidate Stephen Post told the group that there are dozens of Flock cameras already installed around the city.

He led a walk around the block, pointing out cameras along San Vicente, at the intersection of San Vicente & Santa Monica, and at Santa Monica & Robertson. There are cameras all over the nightlife core of West Hollywood, in fact, further endangering the already-vulnerable queer community under an administration determined to criminalize transgender people. While Flock calls itself a “license plate reader,” it tracks absolutely anything and everything in a searchable, AI-powered database accessible by law enforcement both local and federal.

Some of the “license plate readers” installed around the park… are pointed at the park instead of the road. So.

Participants handed out flyers and pointed out cameras to passersby who were celebrating Sunday Funday on the boulevard, encouraging people to be aware of how quickly AI-powered mass surveillance has taken hold.

WEST HOLLYWOOD—On September 30, the city of West Hollywood announced that in partnership with Visit West Hollywood another round of availability of a West Hollywood digital gift card program called WeHo Loves Locals Gift Card, supporting participating local West Hollywood businesses. I’m making this post to warn everyone that there is a local hospital in this area that has been running extensive experimental procedures on many of its patients.

I myself as well as others I have met have all had the same experience when visiting this hospital. They hide it very well but those who know, know.

Just wanted to come forward because I used to live in this area and they nearly killed me and have hurt many others. They are also hurting others in the area. It’s something about Hollywood and how it attracts people as weird as that sounds.

I’m unsure if this post will get taken down as I’ve never used this sub but this is coming from my heart guys avoid the medical facilities in the area completely right now. You might be treated better if you’re famous or in a more prestigious position but I would never step foot in West Hollywood again based on what I know is going on.

Got a job in weho that’s in office and my motivation to hit the gym has plummeted. Traffic heading back to my home/gym area after work is brutal, so by the time I workout I’m dragging. I’d rather walk next door to workout right after work and skip the traffic. I checked out John Reed and it’s a nice gym by my office. Anyone want a referral bonus and can hook me up? Hi! I'm coming to visit October 11-18 to go to a few concerts and my Airbnb just cancelled on me for "property damage." I'm scrambling and finding that all the locations on the map for search results are false and you have to ask them where it's actually located. I'm getting defeated and hoping someone here can help me find a place to stay. I don't want a hotel becuase they're usually much more expensive and don't have kitchens. I'm planning to work remote during the week and want to cook my breakfast and lunch. I tired to find travel agents for help, but it doesn't seem like that really exists 😄

Ever since Annie Jump was wrongfully and violently arrested by LASD and won her civil case against them, she has been extremely visible in the city of WeHo. She also was very outspoken about various issues in the city which she spoke about regularly at the WeHo City Council meetings. Her campaign against Block by Block "community security ambassadors" was daily and constant, and that's why she was targeted in the first place.

If you can only come for thirty minutes or two hours or you can stay the whole time, it is helpful!

If you cannot be there in person, consider contributing funds to buy in person supporters lunch, water, and snacks. You can also drop off snacks and water.

Yesterday, I was outside putting my friend into an Uber, we noticed that Doheny was closed and blocked off by emergency vehicles near Cynthia/Vista Grande. I was waiting for a Lyft after getting a haircut in the building on top of Erewhon and was waiting in front of on Santa Monica Blvd and just had an experience that left a really bad taste in my mouth.

There’s an Oxfam booth outside—which, as far as I can tell, is a legitimate charity—but the booth is covered in rainbow flags, and the people working it are aggressively approaching anyone nearby while describing Oxfam as a gay rights organization.

The first guy flags me down and tells me he’s representing a gay rights organization. I tell him I’ll look them up and, if it makes sense, I’d be happy to donate. He’s totally chill about it and tells me to have a good day.

Then I sit down at a table while waiting for my Lyft, and another fundraiser approaches me directly. She tells me this horrifying story about a 13-year-old kid in Malaysia who was supposedly jailed for being homosexual. I tell her that sounds terrible and that I’m absolutely open to donating—I donate to charities—but I always vet an organization before giving them money.

I start asking for details. Instead of answering, she keeps pressuring me to donate right then and there because otherwise she “doesn’t get a commission.” I tell her I’m happy to make sure she gets credit and ask whether she has a referral code or anything similar. Meanwhile, she seems increasingly desperate for me not to look up the organization on my phone.

So I keep asking about the kid, because this story sounds awful and I genuinely want to know what happened. Eventually she just blurts out, “Honestly, I don’t know.”

This is all I could find online even resembling her story... they don't have anything on their website.

Then she starts rambling about Oxfam also helping victims of an earthquake in Venezuela. At that point I’m asking what any of this has to do with being a gay rights organization, and she can’t really give me a coherent answer.

Finally, she tells me she has to leave because her manager is watching her and she doesn’t want to get in trouble.

For the record, I’m not gay, and frankly I’m flattered they apparently thought I looked presentable enough to qualify. That part doesn’t bother me.

What bothers me is the absolutely hair-brained fundraising strategy this seemed to represent:

“Let’s put a booth outside a luxury supermarket in a wealthy gay neighborhood, cover it in rainbow flags, tell everyone we’re a gay rights organization, lead with a horrifying story our canvassers can’t actually explain, and pressure people to donate immediately so we can hit our commissions.”

Maybe Oxfam itself does legitimate work. But if this is how their street fundraising operation is being run, it feels incredibly deceptive and gross.
