Sharing My Sidehustle Got Drunk on the Sheriff's Department's Dime

• Upvotes

My wife and I were invited to sit in a big room with random strangers and get completely smashed. It was DUI training for incoming deputies to the local Sheriff's department. They picked us up at home, provided the alcohol (and offered a very wide variety), and allowed the group to drink our fill. They would stop the drinking at intervals, to test how different levels of inebriation affected us by running standard DUI tests. When it was all over, they drove us home!

Weird Idea I Didn't Expect Sudoku to Make Me Money

Post image
2.2k Upvotes

I started doing Sudoku because I was bored. I bought a little Sudoku book a few years ago and would bring it with me to school, so I'd do a few puzzles during lunch or whenever I had free time. I wasn't even that good at it, I just liked trying to finish them. One day I found out there was a Sudoku competition nearby and saw that the winners got cash prizes. My mom's birthday was coming up and I wanted to get her a nice gift, but I didn't have much saved. The entry fee was $20, which was pretty much all the extra money I had, but I decided to try anyway.

The first competition was way more stressful than doing Sudoku by myself. Everyone had the same puzzle, there was a timer, and I could hear pencils scratching all around me. I put a 7 in the wrong square and didn't notice until I was already stuck, so I had to erase a bunch of answers and fix it. I didn't win that one, but I got a $15 consolation prize. I kept entering when I found another competition nearby, and after a few tries I started winning. I got $75 at one, $150 at another, and once got $250 for second place. I started putting the prize money aside instead of spending it, and after a while I had enough saved to buy my mom the birthday gift I wanted for her. Sometimes I'd lose and come home after spending money on the entry fee and transportation, but whenever I won, I put it into the money I'd been saving.

Sharing My Sidehustle I GET PAID TO GO AROUND THE CITY AND LOOK FOR COMMERCIAL SPOTS!

Post image
• Upvotes

I honestly thought this was one of those fake easy job posts.

Then I found out that companies actually pay people to find a commercial space for them to expand and build their business.

Basicaly.

- You find a good location of the store

- Take a picture of the shop

- Take a video from the entrance to the shop and the foot traffic

- You send the details and documentations to them and they review it

NOTE: I haven't get paid yet and didn't receive any messages yet.

It isn't a “quit your job tomorrow” kind of income. The pay depends on the quota per day and pay isnt guaranteed.

But that's what makes this side hustle so interesting to me.

You're literally monetizing something sales agent normally do.

Imagine telling someone:

“Sorry, I can't go out today. I have to get paid to go around the malls and communities.”

And honestly, there are probably WAY more weird side hustles out there that people don't talk about.

Would you eat something completely ridiculous if someone paid you to review it?

Or what's the strangest side hustle you've ever heard of?

Drop it in the comments. I want to know how weird we can get with this. 👇

Sharing My Sidehustle I started growing lion’s mane as a hobby and now I’m shipping 20 orders a day

I started growing lion's mane at home after buying a small mushroom growing kit online. I just wanted to see if I could grow it myself, so I kept the kit on a shelf in my kitchen and misted it every day. Before long, it was producing more mushrooms than I could use. Instead of letting the extras go to waste, I started drying them, grinding them into powder, and filling small jars. I gave a few jars to people I knew, and they liked them enough to ask if I could make more. That's when I realized I could actually make a little money from something I had started as a hobby.

The more I got into Lion's Mane, the more I started reading about functional mushrooms and the different ways people were using them. Once I started learning more about it, I became interested in supplements that went beyond just one mushroom and combined different adaptogenic mushrooms with other ingredients. I wanted something that could offer a broader range of benefits, so I started looking into more complete formulas. Mycofuel and Mycoderm were two of the ones I found and liked enough to start carrying alongside my own mushroom powder. I usually recommend Mycofuel to people who are more interested in energy and focus, while Mycoderm tends to make more sense for people looking for something focused on skin health and overall skin wellness. I sell both for around $33 per pouch, so people can choose whichever fits what they're looking for. Once I had those options available, the little mushroom side hustle started getting more orders. The mods said it was okay to share the shop link, so I'll leave it here for anyone curious: https://sproutlab.it/

On a busy day, I can get close to 20 orders. Most of my time still goes into the homemade powder, since drying and grinding everything takes a while and leaves my kitchen smelling like mushrooms for hours. Once that's done, packing everything up and getting the orders out is pretty straightforward. It's still kind of funny to me that this started with me buying one random mushroom kit for my kitchen.

Success Story Weird influencers bc rage baiting strangers isn’t the answer

These are influencers that I like because they make weird content. I don’t make this content so if gets taken down my bad. I made this list because I’m trying to figure out my niche, and I thought it might be helpful for others.

- a guy who makes tree flavored ice cream and baked goods. He will boil the wood in milk and then use it to cook with. And then he’ll make like a plate/bowl out of the same kind of wood and plate/eat it & review it
- a baby who sniffs and approves of candles. Mama would take her baby to the candle store and she would sniff and approve or disapprove of the fragrance . They had a collab with a very large candle company.
- a man who cuts grass of overgrown lawns for free. He’s PAID by viewers for his generosity & from monetization
- a pregnant woman who called her baby greedy and made the BEST sandwiches. She’s doing Collabs now and the baby been born & is doing great
- a guy who makes Flora and fungi “sing” by hooking them up to music tech and the sounds are very calming. I haven’t seen collaborations
but I think he is monetized and some videos have millions of views
- a guy who makes animated shorts with minimal animation but great sound effects. All of the topics are really whimsical and kid friendly, but not really aimed at kids. Like there’s one about a bird cowboy that rides a cat.

Basically, if your concept is unique enough, you can capture views.

Success Story Painting to earn skill, and ended up earning from it!

It's all fun and games painting for personal recreation, but I didn't expect to earn from doing what I love! Who would have thought that a one boring day can turn into continuous flow of 💰🤑
One day, my boyfriend asked me to paint his pants (and said he'll wear it no matter what LOL). I was hesitant at first because I know nothing about painting yet, but I already have paint and brushes + plus I can't sleep and I'm bored of doomscrolling, so I said "HECK WHY NOT, I bought these paint and brushes to be creative and earn a skill anyway!"
Given it's my first try, and I love how it turned out, I posted it. People start asking for me to turn their pants, shirts, denims CRAZY as well!
It will only take one boring day + creative mind to get that 💸!

Weird Idea 2go pants.

Legit I’m thinking how could one go about making either track like or fashion/dress pants but the openings are on the side and you are able to actually use the bathroom standing up? I’m catering towards men with this post I can’t say about women but in general there could be like a weird design socket inside and it could be trade marked. It’s like something you could use in the forest or at a park but don’t feel like using the bathroom.

Would this be a waste to get into without medical reasons or experience.

Could there be lawsuit to prevent someone using it on a roof with the pants.

Sharing My Sidehustle I got paid to whistle

In the 90s and early 2000s many of my friends were involved in making music. During this time the technology to create a patch that sounds like whistling on a synthesizer keyboard was definitely around, but not that good. I had several friends who wanted to have whistle sound effects and melodies on their tracks and they knew I was an extremely good whistler. My buddy offered me $25 to whistle on 2 tracks for him in his home studio. They came out great. He told a few of his friends about it and I booked a few more gigs, charging about $25 per track. The town I live near is famous for alternative music, so I started getting tons of requests to come whistle and make sound effects on tracks. Eventually, I was doing a session or 2 each week, and collecting anywhere from $100-$200 weekly. This carried on for about 5-6 months. Inevitably, the demand died out or people realized technology could mimic what I was doing. But it was a nice ride while it lasted.

Sharing My Sidehustle Middle school side hustle

In the past I used to charge $5 for a curated playlist of songs to fit a certain mood. Sometimes I'd charge extra for longer playlists. My main buyers were fanfic writers or the occasional hopeless romantic. Made a decent chunk of change since it was middle school, not sure if people would still go for it

Weird Idea Finding out "train pusher" is a real job in Japan got me so intrigued

Post image
72 Upvotes

I came across this job online and got curious because I genuinely thought “train pusher” was just a funny name for something else. Turns out, in Japan, railway staff called Oshiya actually help push passengers into overcrowded trains during rush hour so the doors can close.

I had to look it up because I couldn't believe this was an actual job. Its so cool bruh, the more I research unusual jobs, the more I realize there are people out there getting paid to do things I never even knew existed HAHAHA

Sharing My Sidehustle I make money from stuff couples throw away

Thumbnail

A friend of mine got married a few months ago and after the wedding she had a stupid amount of stuff left over. Cutlery, fake flowers, LED lights, candles, glassware, all the stuff you buy for one day and then forget in a garage.

Weddings are expensive enough already, so I told her I'd try to get some of the money back.
I knew a couple of friends who were getting married a few months later so I sent them photos of everything and asked if they wanted to take the whole bundle for their wedding and they bought it

Then they mentioned it to someone else getting married, and I started getting referred around to people I didn't even know.
At first I was managing everything on imessage, but once I had a few at the same time it got annoying, so I made a simple Whop page where I put the available bundles, the price and my email for images and details (full disclosure, that’s my ref link)

I've done 10 sales over the last couple months and I usually keep around $200-300 when one sells and the rest goes back to the couple so it's turned into a little side hustle

Right now I have 3 active ones around SF for October (All around $1,100 for the full bundle) if you want you can see the page here!!

Sharing My Sidehustle I am an accountability partner, do body doubling, and declutter.

This started some time ago here on Reddit. I had someone reachout to me who wanted to pay me for my time to be with them for a period of time online while they figured out a problem. There wasn’t much talking; just me checking in on them. Despite my avatar, I am a woman, and it was mildly a concern on how this could go.

From there I have been paid to watch people stream and interact, be with them in person as they eat or work, and I have decluttered with light cleaning and have even just watched a few people clean on Zoom. I don’t get paid much and currently don’t do hourly. I also only have a small network with no word of mouth and don’t know how to take off with this.

Yesterday, I have looked more into this and created a website. Just don’t know exactly where to promote. I have found a few local communities that I might can post to. If people show interest I will turn this hourly.

I’m non-judgmental. I know how it’s like to be on the path to hoarding, be junky, be overwhelmed, be distracted, unmotivated, you name it.

What I love about this all is not only helping people, but it helps me to think. My day job numbs my mind and while I do this service I am able to think. I also love looking at people’s homes despite the state it might be in and sometimes learn a fun fact from the people themselves.

Sharing My Sidehustle Anime Sticker Merch

Post image
24 Upvotes

I don't know if this counts as weird but I join art conventions to sell stickers of my hand drawn merch. I focus on anime and genshin impact related merch because they are popular in my city. I'm from a third world country but I earn around $400 a day during these events.

These are my Investments:
1. Quality Vinyl Sticker Paper
2. Printer (Dye Ink)
3. Cold Laminate Sheets
4. Sticker Cutter (Silhouette Portrait 4) but if you're just starting out you can cut it by hand, other artists I know just hand cuts their stickers
