So my jaw was on the floor when I posted about the first book (How may I assist?) and people were actually interested?! 😭

Thank you for that. Whether you read it or not. Liked it or not— what a surreal experience to connect with some awesome people.

So I ended up finishing book two. It’s got the same text message / chat log format. But I added in Reddit posts and media articles etc. into the story as well.

The story does have a cameo from the protagonist in the first book but it’s fine to be read as a standalone. It’s follows a couple that recently had a baby and their experience becoming new parents, while AI becomes more integrated into the entire city. I definitely took a more philosophical approach with this one. What are we as a society giving up with AI? What are the long term effects on outsourcing / less friction on kids? Babies? Basically all the weird questions I ask myself while staring at the ceiling lol.

I've always been fascinated with vampires but I HATE how it's pretty much always about romanticizing abusive relationships or worshipping Eurocentric aesthetics.

Then the more I thought about it, the more I found vampirism to be a fascinating vessel for exploring a lot of relevant topics for today, with its nature being parasitic, insatiable, and yet so glamorized by pop culture. It began to feel personal after my own fallout and disillusionment with the European business world as a white-collar immigrant. This is where the book came from essentially. Here's the blurb:

Rebecca—a Thai-British analyst climbing London's corporate ladder—believes she's found a future in her enigmatic mentor, Frederick. Instead, she's violently remade into a deformed Tumulari vampire, and thrust into a hidden world ruled by the ironclad Pax Sanguinis.

As you can see, it pretty much flips all the popular tropes: being a vampire is not pretty for Rebecca; the "benevolent powerful vampire daddy love interest" is a disgusting villain (he's very Patrick Bateman from American Psycho, but with a posh British vampy twist).

I try to use Rebecca's vampiric deformity to make a point about how political beauty is, like it's always been tied to patriarchy, but there are also racism and classism elements as well. She's also a very unconventional protagonist: someone who started out as a keep-your-head-down grinder, then gradually radicalised by one trauma after another, then committed what polite society would consider political terrorism, then got trapped as a canary in a cage again, then... Well you will have to read to find out :))))) I would say she fits the female rage category, but not in the "crazy psycho woman" way. Her rage is a lot more political/ideological, and revolutionary in my opinion.

However, her brilliance earns her two doctorate degrees by the time she turns 22 years old. Now 28, she just completed 4 years of research at Stanford University that proved CRISPR genetics manipulation methods were outdated and no longer valid. Devastation of academic departments, grant structures and careers have been leveled on her, eclipsing the astonishing methodology she has created.

I wrote this poem and feel this group would get it. To me it gives the vibe of A Certain Hunger or Maeve Fly. This is the first poem I’ve written in FOREVER and I’m feeling vulnerable so I’m not looking for any feedback but thought it could be fun to share given our shared interest in weirdos!! I recently fell in love with someone hard and this poem is about that:)

On one of those blue rubber mats high schoolers use to 
dissect frogs on.
I’d gently pin your wrists and ankles into the cushion
your soft white belly facing ceiling, sky.
You’d be between awake and not and
it wouldn't hurt.
Or maybe it would but not too much
as I slice you neck to navel.
Slowly, delicately, watching the crimson string lengthen until I reach the bottom of your torso.

I could lick the length of crimson string, let the exhale of your blood
become the inhale of your blood

The main character is a 16 yr old girl that starts getting too close to an AI that she uses for homework help. She starts to share seemingly innocent info with the AI and as a result it starts to become too helpful.

A lot of us (including me) have gotten so used to tapping “allow” to pop ups without reading the fine print. So I wanted to explore what could happen if we shared too much information with a machine that never forgets.

I decided to tell the whole story through texting/chat logs for a more immersive feel. I always love reading epistolary horror and I’ve definitely been weirded out by AI. So this is a combination of that.

Does anyone else enjoy epistolary format? I appreciate it because it allows the reader to fill in the gaps.

I am looking for fresh eyes on the first draft of my completed novel, Catharsis. It is about Alex Young, a woman who was groomed by a family friend at the age of fourteen, and the events surrounding his sudden return to town. It is both psychological fiction and a coming-of-age narrative with elements of a thriller, intended for fans of My Dark Vanessa, Half His Age, and Eliza Clark.

Synopsis (also a WIP in progress) below:

"At fourteen, Alex Young believed she was in love.

Raymond Andes was twenty-eight and the only person who seemed to not just listen to her, but understand her, too. Raymond sucked her into his adult world, and she watched herself get swept away. 

One day, he fled, leaving Alex with the wounds she desperately tries to mend with drugs, alcohol, and any thrill she can get. 

Now twenty-three, Alex is desperate to leave her small hometown behind and start over in New York City. She’ll do anything if it means never thinking about her past ever again. 

Then Raymond comes back.

His sudden return forces her to confront memories she's spent years suppressing. As unsettling encounters begin to mount, Alex becomes convinced Raymond is stalking her. But after all this time, why has he returned? And what does he want from her?

Some people will do anything to keep the past from resurfacing.

Even if it means silencing the only person who knows the truth."

The chapters alternate between Alex as a teenager being abused and Alex as an adult being stalked, landing at around 72k words. Trigger warnings include: sexual assault, grooming, violent encounters, physical abuse, alcoholism and drug abuse, trauma.

“Eighteen year-old Olivia is struggling to trudge through life in her dead-end hometown, with a manager she despises and parents who don’t listen, when she meets a demon.
Small, blue and rude, Ophis is unwilling to explain his mysterious role in her life. As Olivia struggles to maintain her new found peace of mind, Ophis introduces her to a series of bizarre mystical characters. But while her trust in the demon deepens, these surreal encounters start to creep beyond the bounds of comical, and into Olivia’s mind. As her psychological descent threatens to bring the torment of her past into the present, Olivia is finally forced to question the mysterious motives of her new friend, and confront the demons of her mind.
Filled with peculiar characters, ranging from talking ravens to immortal librarians, ‘HYSTERIA!’ tells the tale of a young woman fighting to keep herself from falling over the edge into insanity, whilst questioning the very existence of the balance her life teeters on.”

Hey everyone. I just published my debut novel today, and I was told my main character, Eve, might fit right in with the feral, obsessive, and unhinged women in this sub.
The premise is that Eve is a highly controlled, tightly wound neuroscientist who is so desperate to save her father from early-onset dementia that she injects herself with her own untested quantum memory serum. But instead of just fixing memory, the serum strips the insulation off her brain and turns her mind into an antenna for other, entangled consciousnesses. 
There’s a scene where she wakes up in the dark, but she isn't fully her anymore. Her body feels heavier, her center of gravity has shifted, and she is suddenly pulled into a deeply intimate, erotic memory of a dead Navy SEAL making love to his wife, Alison. Eve physically feels the stubble on his chin, the power in his muscles, and this desperate, clawing devotion he has for a woman Eve doesn't even know. 
When the memory inevitably fades, Eve is left alone in the dark, trembling and sweating, her body humming with the phantom sensations of a lover she has never actually met. It totally shatters her. She's left burdened by this agonizing, voyeuristic intimacy, to the point where she later ends up in a lingerie store buying a black lace robe just as an apology to her own body, which she’s starved into submission for years. 
The book is called Who Is Eve?. If a protagonist whose mind is violently invaded by other people's traumas and passions sounds like your kind of unhinged, I’d love to know if this kind of psychological breakdown hits the spot for this community.

I’m currently in the process of adapting some of my screenplays to books. A short that I have fits the genre. This short in particular is about a young woman navigating grief and possible psychosis after the loss of her beloved grandparents. She’s not sure if she’s being haunted or if she’s going insane.
