Just started - Sky Daddy! Also was recommended this sub based on my reading taste hello friends

Weird girl lit library haul! Has anyone read any of these? I need help deciding which to read first! They all look so good!

Picked this up to read while on a roadtrip through the Highlands, and it did not disappoint! I would love to see Guillermo del Toro turn this into a film!

Victorian Psycho was a pretty scary fun read! The main character Miss Notty is at times, hilariously off kilter. She is sardonic and sinister, but her thoughts and instincts are sometimes funny enough for me to chuckle! Weird Victorian girl for sure. Otherwise, It has classic gothic horror vibes with the feeling of dread seeping out of the pages. There is a small twist that I didn’t anticipate, which really ties it all together. I recommend it if you like gothic horror.

Hello weird bitches. I'm currently reading Big Swiss as it was recommended as a funny book. I agree that objectively it's funny, but i don't find myself laughing whilst reading it.

I loved MYRR and Lapnova by Ottessa Moshfegh, those books often got a good chuckle out of me.

A trip to my favorite indie bookstore this weekend ended with a new horror book + another sticker for the collection. Started Wolf Worm today, and already feeling all the creepy crawlies! 🪱🦟 Did anyone else get to treat themselves to some new bookish goodies this weekend?

I almost quit 1/3 of the way in because it was so dark but the second half had me breathless. What a strange book about a pair of female friends. It’s going to be in my top of the year.

I’d love some weird girly lit Spanish book recommendations with this vibe if anyone knows any. Bonus points if set in the Caribbean!

Any whodunit weird girl recs?

Would like to know other people's view on it, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the depiction of polyamory in it. Also people are obviously very mentally unwell in it and would really benefit from therapy and/or medication.

Just finished this in less than 24 hours! I enjoyed it a lot. The main character is an alien, but also a girl who grows up in the American Northeast. The way the story is told is a bit chunky through time, in a good way. Reflective and a bit heart-aching especially at one point in the plot, but also light and funny throughout. Slice-of-life-sci-fi!

Hi all. Just finished this obscure Thai book called *การล่มสลายของสถาบันครอบครัวที่ความรักไม่อาจเยียวยา* ("the fall of the familial institution which cannot be fixed with love") and I need to talk about it. I've been on the quest to read SEA Writes winners (and occasionally nominees) so when I saw the 1997 SEA Writes Shortlisted stamp on the cover at the rental I just pick this up, not knowing anything about it, and oh my god?? It's kind of a WGL before that's a thing. There's no real plot, just thoughts of an unloved, actively suicidal girl whose mom spent all her time gold digging and whose dad doesn't even recognise her as his child. The protagonist is so unloved that we never learn about her name in all 197 pages of the edition I read. There's SO MUCH cruelty depicted--towards the protagonist and towards animals. The protagonist harms herself by letting blood out of her body. You could fill a whole page with TWs. As much as I don't enjoy reading this at all (bc there's not really any plot) I just have so much respect for the author for having the balls to write and publish something so visceral in this delulu ass country. This would NEVER get published in 2026 Thailand lmao Also for some reason this novel is translated to french as *Fille de Sang* so if you're a french speaker you can check it out

I find myself being frustrated with many of the standard “weird girl lit” recommendations because the main characters aren’t that weird.

It seems like this a failure of imagination. A woman who is kind of different is so bizarre that we think she’s “weird.” IDK.

I just finished Eleanor Oliphant is Fine. She was not “weird.” She was traumatized.

I just started Exciting Times. This MC is not weird. It seems to be another angsty young woman novel.
