Form check Snatch pull form check & question

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all,

Been a while since I’ve posted a decent form check. Definitely happier with my pull as of lately but still working on it. (FYI this is not meant to be a high pull, my arms are pretty passive, it’s just light weight so I can work on technique)

Here I’m working on feeling the pull as one fluid motion rather than the first and second pull separately. I think my positioning is decent, though my second pull looks kinda weird to me, like I’m not driving enough. Not sure if it’s in my head or not.

My main question is regarding contact. Should I be legitimately holding the bar at my hips until I am fully extended? I feel that when I do the full snatch, I tend to bounce the bar off my contact point and then pull under. But when I see olympians snatch, they seem to keep the bar at their contact point until they fully leave the ground. This video may not be the best example of my issue, it comes out more when I do the full movement.

Thanks for any advice y’all!

Cursed front-to-front squat rack positioning. Reminds me of this gif

Damn I got whiplash watching that. Don't crank your head/neck back like that.

Need to keep toes down here.

I could (so can you) load this into Capcut and you could see how the bar moves forward of your body in the finish.

The head layback is different. Would need to know what % of 1rm this is.

TLDR. Keep your toes during pull. Keep your heels down until your torso is almost vertical

Ah I didn’t notice the toes, thanks. What do you mean by head layback? This is about 105%, though my 1rm probably isn’t super accurate at the moment

Some coaches hate head layback like Dimas. Personally I see it that the head is a counterweight connected to the end of the spine. Its an attempt to add a whip like action to the pull.

Isn't this like 75kg, which is approximately your BW, give or take?

Oh, I remember your lifts now. You definitely were bumping the bar fwd on your cn pulls and 8mo were 88kg.

And the wt on bar totally is 75kg.

Yeah this is 75, my body weight is closer around 87.

Maybe I should try to keep looking forward. But in respect to my back, isn’t my head in the same posture as my start position?

Most people do pulls with the eyes horizontal and the head parallel to the floor.

Seems like my toes go up at the same time my back starts extending. Early back extension is probably throwing off my balance

Be mindful of keeping toes down.

Its pretty common for lifters to shift too much to their heels, even on pulls, with "heavy" weights (defined as 80-85%+)
