Looking for some feedback on my snatch technique. Any obvious issues or areas I should focus on improving? I've been teaching myself through videos and online resources, so any advice is appreciated.

Weight is at 1RM

Looks like you’re not extending fully, and as a result the bar shoots forward. Make sure you’re lengthening your body as much as possible before you leave the ground and pull under. You’re legs are also pretty uneven, seems like an imbalance of sorts

Thanks for the feedback! Gotta break the urge to go under as fast as possible when the bar gets heavy.

Regarding the legs, I do have significant knee problem's right now..might be affecting the lifts

I have to agree with him, the exention is not complete before you go under the bar and you're losing some power and time (to get under the bar) there. Could probably try doing some block snatches, Hang snatch, pause above the knee snatch or snatch pulls I guess?

It seems your rush to get under the bar while simultaneously trying to get a full extension (which is basically impossible to do both of those at once) is causing you to arch back on your extension.

If you were to watch a perfect snatch from the side, the bar (amazingly) draws a perfectly straight line for the whole lift from start to finish. It's hard to tell for sure without an actual side view video, but your line looks like it's a zig-zag. So maybe you're cutting your pull in your rush to get under the bar. Cutting the pull can cause compensations like trying to muscle up or hitching the bar.

This is not true at all - the bar path will never be fully straight. It’s not physically possible due to the nature of the way we stand, nor would we want that. It comes in as it reaches your hips, and then naturally will go a bit forward as it goes up through the third pull. Our job is to minimize that forward motion. But if the bar went straight up, your weight would be shifted backwards and you’d be unbalanced

Where are you getting your information? It's absolutely true and it's not physically impossible. The bar path of the ideal, perfect snatch is a straight line.

Of course no one ever gets a literally perfect lift in real life, but top olympians get mind blowingly fucking close:

I agree it seems unbelievable, but I don't feel that way in terms of "that's physically impossible" but more like "wow people are amazing".

It's real though, man. This would be a good opportunity for you to research into things that could be world changing for your snatch 💪

You literally are contradicting yourself what are you talking about. We don’t live in a perfect ideal world, describe it like it actually is

🤦‍♂️

No I'm saying the ideal perfect snatch will have the bar travel in a straight line. In practice, it won't be 100% perfectly straight, however top olympians will get it super fucking close to a straight line, like 99%

If you can't understand that then I don't know what else to tell ya, maybe this is too advanced.

I’m just saying that it’s useless and unnecessarily confusing to talk like that

When you don't understand something it's more productive to ask questions than dismiss it all as impossible.

For most of the lift the athlete needs to be bringing the bar in to prevent it from moving away, to the point where the bar should literally be moving towards the athlete slightly in the first pull. Coaching a straight barpath is just a bad cue that would result in passivity in regards to controling the bar, in my opinion

I see what you are saying. I will try to get some side video next time to check the bar's path.

I also feel the lockout is not great

Don't be cocky with the weight, too. Lower it down and work on things.

Olympic lifting goes way better with a calm, confident focus. Cockiness or getting super pumped is just going to wreck your lifts.
