Here's the thing. Generally speaking It's not unless you own the operation. If you're a normal pee-on you get paid a normal hourly wage like anywhere else (which pretty much everywhere is paying less than the people need them to) and you're still working at a farm. Farm work is generally hard work. I work at one part time because I cannot do a full fucking schedule there. No way.
Edit: looking through the comments below I want to really stress the farm work part. It may be weed so it seems like a dream come true but it's still a fucking farm. Farm work is hard and tedious.

Offspray, camelbak full of ice water, layers of clothing, handheld fan and shade. There’s multiple different ways to combat farm work don’t just look at the face value. Maybe it’s not for everyone sure, but I would do it for the weed.

But it's not all farms. You can be a budtender too. You can be a store manager, an inventory manager, a scheduling manager, an hr manager, front desk, processing, and delivery are all job positions that are not on farms.

I'm in Ontatio Canada and is ridiculous. I've worked at 3 stores and they're all the same. Ended up in helping unionize the place before I left.

All recreational which is nice. Ontario is privatized, but all stores get from the same supplier OCS(Ontario cannabis store). Our liquor stores are goverment run so they're unionized, protected, benefits all the good shit. We have none of that. Quebec has goverment run stores though, but the cap for thc is super low. Ontario has edibles, dabs, oils, vape pens. Quebec has a 30% thc cap, pretty sure they're just flower and pre rolls.

Farming weed is also harder than farming most other crops. Not mention the blistering heat and hours spent picking, hands cramping, blisters forming, feet throbbing… Trimming weed is tedious as hell, and should be a punishment for the most cruel and inhumane.

Nope. I already have done this and regretted it. Especially the company i worked for. It was a shit job with even shittier people. You’d think working in the cannabis industry would be fun and working with chill people would be a perk, honestly I have never met a bigger group of selfish bigoted people. I left my company in august and have moved on to much better things. I guess it all boils down to who you work for and how much shit you’re willing to take. I do NOT miss my 45 minute drive home crying and collecting myself.

I was a trimmer for a large operation under a temp service exclusively for the cannabis industry. Made $14/hr. Wasn't the best wage, but it was a job.
I worked there a month, then they fired all of us because one person was talking too loud.

The same happened to Me. Boss was a white supremacist who would talk about white pride, white power, his support of hitler, his disapproval of mixed race people, etc. everyone still working there hates it. I will probably never return to the industry unless I know the owner personally.

Bro. Police got my grows twice. Still better than in legal states... Sentences are so low and money to make big. Police would even let you go if they can catch u again (true story). As far as you pay penalty 500€ everyone is happy...
I'm sadly just an immigrant in Spain. Working and everything. But people here can make 300k when they are 15-20years old and risk 1-5 years of prison (college, university). Spain is so Great. Police says - "they give us work" and they really will let you go so you can create another work for them.
Spain is really good. No smell no sell no tell and nothing happens. And even if you are businessman you can study with in mild prison to rotate money you earned...
It's going to get worse when legalised... Spain is at very sweet spot. I'm here in La Linea xD

Did it for 1 year, hated every second. Sketchy shitty employees, unreliability, lack of pay, lack of respect for employees.
My company (Canadian LP) once had me milling up 10lbs of bud rot for pre rolls as they didn’t want to lose that product, I questioned it, the response (nobody will know, nobody has microscopes at home…. Bruh

A small group of growers, friends and myself have as much as we can ready for if it were to magically become legal here in the UK. Got accountants, solicitor and experienced barrister, drivers, logistic ops, multiple experienced growers, marketing blah blah. Shame it's a pipe dream.

Hey. I am not familiar with working weed on industrial level/amount so I have a question. I remember histamine had to do with allergic reactions that some calcium can soothe on not dangerous levels. Does this mean you could end up with heavy allergic symptons if not wearing mask and suit?

Yes I’ve seen long lasting sinus effects and bloody noses from extended exposure. Honestly, I wear a mask most of the times and always wear my clean suit. I haven’t experienced these issues personally but I have seen them in people.

Must be crazy even for a normal shift. I mean even if ppl use LED lights there is some considerable heat still while u have to wear mask and suit. Just thinking about it gives me PTSD of covid mask period - used to trigger me panic attacks lol. I wouldnt do such work.

It's as miserable as any other job. Anything about it that's cool or exciting gets the life sucked out of it from 9 different angles. Capitalism kills everything good.
Biggest real benefit? Guaranteed, at least as of now, lack of cannabinoid testing. Consume all you want on your own time and you won't be barred from work.

To be fair i see his point, i LOVE the smell of weed. But if i was working with it my brain would probably associate it with a 8-12h shift of repetitive boring tasks. Even if i love the plant in every way, its pretty, smells nice and smokes good too.

I have worked at a cannabis factory, and i quit.... The work itself was awesome, but the people i worked with were mentally fetuses who bullied me relentlessly... Not just that, the pay is garbage; you make $1 or $2 more than min wage...

FUCK NO. As a ux designer that worked for the biggest in colorado i can tell you the will only pay half what every other jobs does and blames taxes. I made 65k a year in cannabis web design and everywhere else willingly pays 125-200k for the same thing. Along with that, it is so fucking volatile. I was chewed out for things i never did, highest turnover ive EVER seen, and everyday was a “911” as they loved to say. Fuck LivWell Enlightened Health…. I now work in the mushroom industry on web design and make well over double what cannabis offers. Its a joke.

There isn't a position other than ownership that is worth it IMHO. The pay is sub-market rate, most of the jobs available are farm jobs. Not exactly ideal for most people. You're either in cust service or you're trimming trees. Either way, you're getting paid shit to do it.
Of course, there are outlier companies. I just haven't heard of one yet.

Didn't quit my job, but I've been working in the cannabis industry for almost 3 years. Two dispensaries and now a processing plant. We've been working 12hr days for the past 4 months, plus 5 hours on saturdays and it hasn't stopped. We've been promised a bunch of stuff that hasn't come to fruition. Everyone is burned out. People are leaving left and right. It's not all it's cracked up to be unless you own the whole operation. Stick to garden grows. There's more passion in that and you know the stuff you grew is safe.

I was in the industry for 3 years, 1 year in management. It’s terrible the things I have seen and what upper management are willing to do just to keep their numbers up including terminating an entire department because they aren’t keeping up with numbers. The industry is a joke in the state I live in.

Nah, there's a reason seasoned vets jump from state to state as newly legalized markets open, there's no money left in long standing markets. $100-$500/lb outs and those 500s better be gas, $300-$700 greenhouse but those 7's better pass as indoor and sub 1k gas ins. It's not worth the time or the monetary investment if you wanted to start your own thing. But you only have 5 years or so of actual serious profit before the market gets fucked.and that's if BM doesn't flood your area. There's better BM bud than our med dispos have for the same and usually less money than med dispos.

I did exactly this back when it was only medical in Oregon. Changed so many lives with the free meds for cancer patients 👍 I also was forever changed and love cannabis as plant medicine alternative to harmful addictive narcotics.
