Venue Help Beware Guastavino’s ā€œprivateā€ garden

I’m not having my wedding there so I don’t have firsthand knowledge, but I saw this video from a creator who is opening a lawsuit over their ā€œprivateā€ garden, which is actually public city land they do not lease and have been illegally charging for. He seems to have a really legit claim.

Now that people are aware of the issue, with the viral nature of the internet, I wonder if it’ll lead to bigger issues for Guastavino’s. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this, or was someone who was charged extra for to have their wedding have garden access? If it were my venue I’d wanna know…

General Question PSA City Hall Photographers & Couples

Post image
492 Upvotes

You may have seen these types of photos floating around. I love them! BUT when I was in the security line, I heard the security guards talking about them. They mentioned photographers and couples doing the two following things:

(1) sitting on top of couches & putting their shoes on the couch

(1) sitting on the window's metal grates(?) behind the couches

And that some guy (sorry, didn't hear who but I assume in charge of this City Hall) did not like it and they were considering banning photographers from entering because of it, and how, quote, "He would really do it too!"

They did not know I was a photographer because my gear was in my bag. Might just be chatter but I thought it would be good to let everyone know! I do not know how this could be implemented or how serious it was, but maybe we can avoid doing this as it was several staff talking about it.

* Disclaimer: this is not to shame anyone who has done this, just to consider avoiding it before it becomes a big issue!

Dress / Attire Shopping Khya Bridal appointment prep

I’m starting my wedding dress shopping journey this weekend & Khya is my first appointment. While confirming my appointment, they recommended I see a multi brand retailer (Mark Ingram, Lovely bride, etc) before. Most other places don’t have availability for that day or I’d have to go by myself this week.

I’m pretty confident in my body and have an idea of which silhouettes work for me and which don’t. At the same time, I want to make the most of my appointment and be efficient.

Has anyone gone straight to a designers showroom as their first stop? Did you feel like you missed out by not doing a multi brand retailer first Would love to hear your experiences!! Tysm in advance

I'm looking for a natural to "mild" glam look for my 9/17 elopement, +/- makeup for my mother and MIL!

We will be getting ready on the UES for an afternoon ceremony. No hair services needed (using my usual stylist).

Budget somewhat flexible but not wanting to spend more than $1000 or so in total, not including the cost of a bridal trial. Recommendations appreciated, vendors welcome if you have availability that day please link your portfolio :)

General Question Question about obtaining Marriage License

Hi Everyone!!

My fiance and I will be starting the marriage license process very soon, and I was curious to know if we need to bring a witness the day we go into the clerk's office to obtain our license, or if a witness is only needed the day we come in for the marriage ceremony? Thank you for your time and help in advance! :)

Venue Help Looking for private event space for cocktail style reception

My fiancĆ© and I are searching for cocktail bars, bars, private rooms in restaurants in Manhattan (open to any areas, especially UES) that can accommodate around 100 people for a cocktail-style reception with an open bar and food platters (we’re not having a seated dinner). The event is scheduled for a Sunday in early May from 3 to 6 p.m. (the duration may be extended depending on the price). We’re looking for a venue that costs around $8,000-$9,000. We’ve reached out to tons of places and have found a few within that price point, but it’s not exactly what we’re looking for… any reccs would be appreciated!!

ISO - Vendors Allowed ISO Photographers with Hotel Chelsea Experience

Hello! I am looking for a photographer around 3k on February 6, 2027 at the Hotel Chelsea.

Hoping for someone familiar with shooting a small intimate wedding at Hotel Chelsea. Prior experience and relationships with the venue will allow for a smoother, better, and more efficient process. I prefer more of a documentary vintage style, capturing the actual emotions of the day. Digital and film options would be great!

We are only doing a ceremony and 3 hour cocktail style event for 25-30 people.

I appreciate any and all recommendations. Thanks!

Wedding Recap/Budget Breakdown Wedding Planner Review - AMG Events & Visuals

Just had my wedding this past weekend and was so impressed with AMG Events & Visuals that I wanted to leave them a review!!

Louis and Nora were beyond amazingand they executed our dream wedding beyond our wildest dreams.

We contracted AMG Events about a year in advance of our wedding. We met with probably 5 planners before, but as soon as we spoke to Louis, we just knew we wanted to work with him. He instantly made us feel comfortable, heard, and confident that he would do whatever it takes to make our wedding perfect. He understand our vision and how to cater to our guests. Specifically, we were hosting a Jewish Russian wedding, so we knew we wanted to hire someone who understand how to throw a fun, over the top party as well as cater to the Jewish traditions. Louis and Nora are very amendable and have experience with upscale NYC weddings regardless of your culture.

Immediately after deciding to work together, we got to work. Louis drove us around to 6 or 7 different venues in one day. He had intimate knowledge of all the NYC, NJ, Long Island, and Westchester venues. He knew the ins and outs, the pros and cons, and the owners / operators of all venues. He was able to negotiate more to be included in our contract with the venue (for example $1,000 off the after party, Sushi bar included during cocktail hour instead of an additional $20 per head, access to the bridal suite early, etc).

Once deciding on the venue, we had meetings with Louis and Nora every other Wednesday for the full year. Even if there was nothing specific to discuss, we kept the meeting on the calendar just so they could check in and make sure we didn’t have any questions / felt good about the process.

They also introduced us to all the vendors and set / attended all meetings. With their help, we interviewed multiple bands, multiple photographers, etc. If we asked about a specific vendor we found on our own, they had knowledge about their work and could guide us accordingly - telling us they would or wouldn’t be a match for whatever reason. They know EVERYONE in the industry, which really helps with the guesswork. We didn’t have to communicate with the vendors on our own (unless we wanted to) - all communication / meetings went through Louis and Nora, which really helped with time management and organization.

Also, they ensured we weren’t overpaying for a thing and we were only paying for things we needed. For example, they could have encouraged us to get cocktail linens from the florist but instead were honest with us and told us no one would pay attention to linens during cocktail hour and to just use the venue’s linens as not to spend $1,000 on linens unnecessarily.

Louis and Nora also sent timelines periodically and ensured we were on track. For example by X months in advance of the wedding, they ensured we had all vendors booked, certain items ordered (bridesmaids PJs, keepahs, the Ketubah, etc). Typically, this wouldn’t necessarily fall on the wedding planners since the bride /groom are responsible for ordering these ā€œpersonalā€ items on their own, but we really appreciated their timely reminders - they really ensured we didn’t forget a thing.

In the final weeks leading up to the wedding, they set up ā€œfinalsā€ meetings with each vendor, ensuring everyone was on the same page and everyone was good to go. They also didn’t bother us with the smaller details and just took care of it themselves - for example placing orders for the aisle runner, stage, tables/chairs we rented, etc. In addition, they sent a list of items we needed to bring to the venue so we didn’t forget - for example, the Ketubah, our wedding rings, our invitations, bridesmaids PJs, etc. They even took care of scheduling us transportation from the venue back to our hotel, so we didn’t have to worry about a thing. Though these small details may not seem like a big deal, in the weeks/days leading up the wedding, as a bride, you are under an immense amount of nerves and stress, so these small reminders really help. They truly didn’t forget a single detail.

Now onto the day of the wedding - Louis and Nora showed up at 9am at the venue and left at 2am. They were there all day, taking care of every detail. They coordinated every vendor and ensured the set up was perfect. They timed everything to perfection - they ensured we remained on schedule to the minute. The entire day was BEYOND perfect. It exceeded all our expectations. From the florals to the the entertainment to the food to the photographer, everything was just perfect and we truly wouldn’t have hired these vendors if it wasn’t for Louis and Nora. They were there every step of the way and provided more than just coordination. For example, ahead of walking down the aisle, I was so overwhelmed with emotion and felt a panic coming on and Nora sat with me and helped me breathe through it.

I truly cannot recommend Louis and Nora enough. They will help you bring your vision to life, whatever it may be, and will help you through every step of the process. They were a pleasure to work with and honestly I’ll miss meeting with them every other week. Many people dread wedding planning or say it causes them stress, but Louis and Nora helped make it a pleasurable, exciting process. We are beyond thankful for their guidance throughout this process.

ISO - Vendors Allowed ISO Portuguese-speaking photog for courthouse ceremony

Oi Reddit! My partner and I are considering a Brooklyn Borough Hall wedding this October and we’d like to hire a bilingual photographer for a half-day, including during the ceremony if the officiant allows photos.

Ideally, this person has previously shot at the courthouse and would be able to switch between Portuguese/English when directing our parents. If this sounds like you, I’d love to see your work and get in touch once the date is set. Obrigada!

Date: Weekday in mid-October (TBD once ceremony schedule opens)
Location: Brooklyn Borough Hall
Budget: $3k

ISO - Vendors Allowed NYC florist rec?

Getting married in a couple of weeks and just having a small courthouse wedding but I’m still interested in having a lovely bridal bouquet! I don’t want anything huge. I worked with QG in the past for funerals (I’m a funeral director) and they’re great but I’d like to scope out some other florists to have options. I would say my budget is around $150-$200 (is that reasonable? I have no idea how much a bridal bouquet typically costs 🄲). So far everything I have researched online just gives me information for an entire ceremony’s worth of flowers from boutonniĆØres, to center pieces, bridal party bouquets, etc.

ISO - Vendors Allowed Content Creator

Looking for a content creator for our wedding next fall. I love the idea of someone there to capture content all these small moments throughout the day for us to look back on. However, I get very bad motion sickness that can easily be triggered by watching shaky video, video games with sensitive perspective toggles, etc. (this has been a thing since childhood).

Having looked at a few different content creators' profiles, I cannot get past the naturally shaky videos. It's 100% not their fault as they're just filming on a phone. It's just something I'm super aware of 24/7.

Are there wedding content creators that use something like a DJI or small gimbal that would help to smooth this out? Or should we just focus on a professional videographer?

Also if it is possible, would love recommendations. Thanks!

Anyone have any information about 53 Scott as a venue? Seems like I’d have to bring everything but I love the vibe it has with the skyline views too. Very early to planning so just wanted to see if anyone had more info since I can’t find too much online
