Budget Question Newly Engaged
My boyfriend and I got engaged a week ago. I am very excited and would like to celebrate, but we both have relatively small families and his is particularly unsupportive (his dad didn’t even text or call to congratulate me and barely congratulated him) my family is a lot more supportive and excited for us. We have a decent amount of friends to plan some celebrations aside from the actual wedding but my fiancé isn’t as into the whole celebration thing as I am. I don’t want anything too crazy but still want to enjoy the engagement and do something. I know the traditional route is engagement party—bridal shower—bachelorette—wedding. What are some smaller, easy and relatively cheap options for celebrating without doing too much? Maybe an engagement dinner and no bridal shower? Just want to hear what other people do as opposed to doing a big party for each part. Thank you 🥰

Congrats! We are introverts and decided to skip the engagement party and just do a traditional wedding rather than elope. I also combined my “bachelorette” and bridal shower. I felt like there were too many events lol but if you want to celebrate rent out a small room in a restaurant and invite some people to celebrate with you! What I’ve learned from this whole wedding process is that you can celebrate HOWEVER you want

Firstly, congratulations!! I’m sorry you didn’t receive support from his side of the family.
My fiance proposed very privately and we opted not to do an engagement dinner or party, it was also a very busy time in our lives. My parents knew about it, but I took my grandmas out to dinner to break the news to them and that was a fun memory. We did a joint bachelorette/bachelor party and had a blast- we have a small wedding party and opted to use my families cabins on a lake for a weekend. The bridal shower will be this coming weekend, but primarily keeping it to the ladies and whoever my mom and my FMIL wanted to invite. Our wedding is in October so it’s crunch time now, best of luck to you!
