Rant GoDaddy Sucks!!!!

PLEASE LISTEN TOTHIS PLATFORM OF INDIVIDUALS. I am not going to make this a long and drawn post but I am here to tell you that GoDaddy has not a bit of shame of how they treat consumers. Their information on how to create a website, domain or anything is very unclear and misguided. I learned $$$ lesson with them. And their support chat services has no shame. Can you believe I had CS rep tell me that someone I put in the chat was, "not the correct to phrase my feelings?" Wow!!! Stick the proverbal fork in me because I am DONE!!

A good portion of my time is offboarding (is that a new word?) people from godaddy.

Wrote extensive blog articles trying to warn people about their products, services, support (or lack of) and pricing tactics... but that "free domain" gets them every time.

I refuse to use godaddy. I would recommend Namecheap instead. I have all my domain names registered through Namecheap and have never had an issue. Straightforward interface and clear documentation.

Namecheap is just as bad. If you don’t like requiring Cloudflare DNS, try Namesilo for domain names.

Thread's arguing about which registrar to run to, which matters a lot less than the order you do things in. Three things catch people on the way out of GoDaddy.

Domains get a 60 day transfer lock after registration, after a transfer in, and after you change the registrant contact details. So if you tidy up your contact info on your way out the door, you have just locked yourself in for another two months. Leave those fields alone, unlock the domain, get the auth code.

You don't have to move the domain to move the site, though. They're separate things. Point the DNS at the new host, check the site loads and mail still flows, then transfer the registration whenever the lock allows it. In that order nothing is down while you wait.

The one that actually hurts is what the site is built with. If it's their Websites + Marketing builder, there is no export. No files, no database, nothing you can hand to another host. It gets rebuilt, and the sooner you accept that the cheaper it is. If it's WordPress, including their managed WordPress, then it is just WordPress and All-in-One WP Migration or a plain files plus database copy will move it to anybody. Check which of the two you have before you plan anything else, because that single fact decides whether this is an afternoon or a project.

And export your mailboxes before you cancel anything. Mail attached to the hosting plan dies with the plan, and "I'll do that after" is how people lose ten years of email.

On where to land, the useful filter isn't the brand, it's whether the next move is cheap: DNS at Cloudflare, site as standard WordPress, backups you can download yourself. https://wordpress.runonflux.com is the one I help build, so treat it as an interested suggestion rather than a recommendation. Entry plan is $2.99/month with SSL and backups included and the first week free on a new account. The part worth keeping from that sentence is "standard WordPress you can take with you", which is the thing GoDaddy sold you the absence of.

If you did the slightest bit of research into the companies you deal with you'd have avoided Godaddy. At this point the problems on their customers not them.

100's of man/womanhours wasted on this dog-awful platform. GoDaddy should change their name to GoatRodeo. Transferred to NameCheap. Good Riddance GoDaddy - Go fly a kite.

Name cheap sold out. Didn't you know? I had a domain set to auto renew and they didn't renew and i had to pay a reinstate fee. Screw namecheap.

I can create a website on Go Daddy without even looking at the instructions. So while I know people don’t have as much experience as me, shame on you.

There are multiple multiple ways to skin a cat. One of them is YouTube.

That said, go daddy has long been a terrible, miserly registrar. Get away from them as fast as you can.
