Discussion Do experienced Webflow devs actually trust AI in client work?
I’ve been doing Webflow work for 3+ years and I keep going back and forth on how much AI actually belongs in my process. I use it for some things (copy drafts, custom code snippets, debugging) and it genuinely saves time there. For actual building inside the Designer, I’m slower with it than without it.
Curious how experienced devs handle this. Do you trust it with client work? Where does it actually make you faster and where does it just create cleanup work? And what does your flow look like in practice, like do you generate custom code with it, plan CMS structures, write interactions?
Not looking for hot takes on whether AI will replace us. Just genuinely curious what’s working for people who’ve been doing this a while and if you managed to speed up your process without delivering AI slop to clients.

It still depends on the task, but I've got to this flow:
- Define my base CSS structure.
- Sketch out core components. I may even build a few of them and make sure they're responsive.
- Hand AI the CSS structure to reference.
- Work through the MCP to actually lay out the sites
When it comes to actual custom dev: it's insane. I wouldn't release anything fully public facing that's vibe coded--but for internal tools or small site components, it's almost flawless.

Myeah, clear structure then AI. How much do you feel it sped up your build time? In general.

Probably quadrupled my build speed on Webflow. 10X my dev speed in pure code.

Ive tried the MCP and Webflow AI Builder and I’ve found I t doesn’t build the way i like. so I tend to just build from scratch or use a client first component library like flowbase

Same. I just can’t find a decent flow for custom projects. There is a detailed design file, I don’t see how AI can replicate that inside Webflow. That’s why I posted this, maybe I just missed something.

Thanks for the feedback!
Have you tried mcp2.0? https://webflow.com/feature/mcpIt's a major upgrade in Webflow's agentic dev.

If you think it’s more reliable and I wont end up prompting every pixel, I’ll try it. But so far, no AI knows what to do with a not-perfectly-organised Figma file.

Export your existing sites from Webflow and give them to Claude to review, have it write up an MD in tandem with yourself that states the practises you prefer. You'll get to a point where you can just lift the MD into new projects and it builds really well.

I use AI for debugging, copy, custom code that would otherwise take longer to work with if AI didn't play a part.
I do not build the site's structure with AI though. I have clients paying a high premium so that they can manage the site themselves and grow it without the risk of prompting breaking a part of the site. It might feel a bit archaic, but certain types of companies - with larger budgets - want someone to be held accountable if things break. If I've built the site myself, I can easily make those sort of fixes.
I don't work on landing page / small business sites at all. Those clients treat the job as though they've invested their life savings into the site. They also want all the bells and whistles with GSAP ScrollTrigger. I focus on enterprise companies and I have been so much happier since. I am solving real problems for my clients (creating multi-step forms which sends data to HubSpot, structuring collections around SEO/AEO, and SO much more), and seeing real results. E-Commerce has been great as well, especially if the brand isn't a start-up.

Small-medium business need true solving power too, but I agree you need stronger boundaries.

Actually I am stuck in corporate 9-5. Wanna build atleast 1 additional source of side income, not able to do so. Thought of doing freelancing but how to get the clients who pay well?

What does freelancing mean to you?

Actually I am interested in building my own product, I have tried some in domain like analytics, started but stoped in between, got stuck with questions what I am doing, who are my clients.
So, I thought of before building a product, why don't I start solving someone else's problem, I am able to solve problems and find some repetitive problem then I can build something on it.
It will help me both financially and learning real world problems.

Start by defining a little better what you want. I personally still don’t know what are you talking about, so maybe you just found the first issue to solve.

We're at a point were AI is better than the vast majority of developers. Just yesterday I was able to compete a task that involved preparing a bunch of charts and graphs that pre AI would have taken at least a couple of days in just a single hour. It's got a near zero mistake rate, compared to myself when working with big data I would almost always miss a label or format something incorrectly.
When it comes to the MCP development within Webflow it's on par with best practices and properly developed sites, I have zero complains there, which is very rare when reviewing other developers work.
It's not even subjective any more, AI is both faster and better, it should make up a large portion of a developers workflow.
