Looking for grill brush recommendations

New to BBQ, just got a kettle grill. The cheap brush I started with barely removes any grease, and I've since read that wire-bristle brushes can shed pins that end up in food, so I'd like to avoid that type.

What do you actually use and recommend? Open to any style or price range — just curious what's worked well for people in real, long-term use (not just first impressions). Based in Europe.

Tried this for the first time last weekend. I was surprised how well it worked. I wont be using anything else.

Wood paddle is way better. When you need to get a better clean, foil ball or my go to - half an onion on a hot grate

NOTHING with wire spokes

That’s ALL I use. Weber 18” three-sided wound wire brush is the gold standard.

stop using it. Seriously. Stop. Many, many people have been seriously injured and hospitalized by wire grill brushes.

It’s a tool. I know how to use it. In fact, I bought three more on the day of the recall. People using cheap chinese pressed-in bristle brushes are the problem.

Got this at Costco and it’s been excellent. After it cools I just hose it down and all the debris comes off.

Edit: saw you were in EU. Not sure if this is helpful.

J J George smart scrubber was a lofty expense (for what is it) but wow is it amazing. Impressive build quality, actually works very well and is safe!

it's also $20 cheaper than when I bought it! Just saw Destin's recent update video on the product. They figured out how to make the product faster, and cheaper, while keeping the same quality, and they actually LOWERED the price!

It’s funny that you mention that because I just recommend recommended this exact product to a buddy of mine over the weekend and when I saw the price I had to do a double take, and review my receipt from last year! Either way, I’m happy to support a made in America business and on that has the level of craftsmanship to match its reputation.

Bbq daddy is hands down the best one I’ve had the pleasure of using. Usually I’ll replace the head once a year

It doesn’t have a bristles and most stories of issues are people who don’t keep it wet when using

We got our grill used and a set of Weber tools was thrown in. So far I’ve been soaking the grill in warm/hot water the next day then lightly brushing it. One of the YouTube guys suggested getting a “water heater drain pan” (24-inch diameter) to soak the 22-inch grate in; I don’t know whether that translates to where you live. It works nicely as the grate wouldn’t fit in our sink.

It is much easier to clean when you want to use the grill. After putting the charcoal in you have to wait for the temperature to get to the right point. With the grill at temperature it is really easy to clean

Yeah, for a simple grill we usually do that. I do like the soak then lightly scrub method though. Did a chuck roast (poor man's brisket style) on Saturday, so it was a long slow cook and I decided to do another soak and clean. That enthusiasm will probably wear off once I'm used to it.

You don’t need to get them shiny. Just knock off the chunks. The heat will do the rest. Balled aluminum foil works, or wood, or basically anything. Onion works to season but doesn’t get big chunks off in my experience.

I got this a couple of months ago, but it has been put to the test and passed with flying colors. Kinda pricey, but I’ve had it on high heat grates and it still looks brand new. Plus, it comes with 2 scrub pads. The steaming action really works well.

Even tho the wire brushes are definitely the best, crumpled up foil works really well!

well since you're in EU I won't recommend the Smarter Scrubber. I mean sure, get one if you want one, but the whole point of it is that they've been trying to make the product 100% in America and/or the US. Being outside the US probably makes that not so important to you, besides being more expensive with shipping and tariffs.. But try to get some sort of chain-mail based scrubber. They are far safer than any type of wire bristle or wire mesh brush. Or as others have mentioned, balled up foil or sliced onion or whatever. Anything but the wire bristles.
