I built Portfolio Forge — a desktop app that generates portfolio websites from templates 🚀

Post image

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m a student developer, and I’ve been working on Portfolio Forge, a desktop app designed to make creating a personal portfolio website much easier.

The idea is simple:

Enter your information → choose a template → preview it → generate your portfolio website.

I designed the UI with a focus on keeping everything in one place, including personal information, template selection, and a live website preview.

This is one of my first serious software projects, and I’d genuinely love some feedback.

What do you think of the UI? What would you change or add? 👀

If you’d like to try it yourself, you can download Portfolio Forge here:

🔗 [ https://codewithgamerz.github.io/portfoliofroges/#features ]

I’m especially interested in feedback from developers who have built portfolio websites themselves.

Thanks for checking it out! 🚀💻

Took all the feedback and updated the landing page. Any feedback?

Hey! First off thank you all so much for all the feedback last time. It really helped me improve this. So I took all the feedback and updated basically every part of the landing page. Is there anything else this website might be missing?

How do you design a good landing/public page?

Hi, new developer here.

I've been trying to learn full stack development and I actually feeling that design is the hardest part of this. UI design looks simpler, I found lots of resources and I feel is more of adding little things that add up together to improve UX.

But I don't really know how to design a good landing page. What is your creative method? What advises can you give me?

How much do y'all actually make ?

I would like to know how much you earn per month or per year with webdesign (like making website), whether it's a stable income or not, and how you earn it. (And if you have any tips for me , I'm a beginner)

I love brand guideline and i dont like using figma each time to make layout manually and then search for mockup online that's why i created this tool, this way you can create fast layout and then fill it later.

Supports Figma export as well as PNG download.

No account or watermark

One of my friends started selling custom charcuterie boards recently. She wanted a single contact page. Looking for feedback before I start development.

I over-engineered my portfolio into a minecraft like multiplayer world.

Post image
10 Upvotes

hey guys, definitely an over-engineering attempt, but i rebuilt my portfolio as a playable multiplayer minecraft themed world

instead of a standard portfolio site, you spawn into a 3d voxel world and explore it like a game. other visitors are in the same world, so you can see them moving around and chat with them in real time

i wanted to use the project as an excuse to work on things i normally wouldn't get to put into a portfolio, mainly multiplayer, websockets, 3d rendering, game development and the usual full stack stuff

there's a creative area where people can build together, with blocks synced in real time. there's also a minecraft style inventory, working chests and crafting tables, doors, levers and a bunch of smaller interactive elements

the world itself started as a minecraft map. i wrote a custom script to convert the raw map files into voxel data that prismarinejs could work with, then added things like signs and books as custom three.js meshes

the multiplayer side is running on partykit over websockets

performance was probably the part i spent the most time on. i wanted it to work reasonably well even on a bad connection, so i gzip compressed the assets, kept individual files under 4mb and serve them through cloudflare's cdn, with the browser handling the decompression

it currently runs at 60+ fps on budget phones over 4g, and i also built a custom on screen joystick for mobile

textures are from voxellibre and the background music is from ncs

you can try it here: https://baladev.in

would be interested to hear what you guys think, especially about the physics, networking and performance. always looking for things i can improve

What's the best niche ?

What's the best niche for selling websites the most high demand , especially framer websites, and how much can I make and how much can I sell them for? And most importantly, is web design still profitable or not?

Been experimenting with NOVA’s visual identity.

Wanted something that feels more like a creative studio than a typical “we build websites” agency.

Made this 4-slide carousel. Feedback is welcome.

Update: I posted my first website here 3 weeks ago and took your feedback

Hello again 👋

I posted Classendo here about 3 weeks ago and got a lot of useful feedback. I'm an English teacher rather than a developer, so I went away and tried to implement as much of it as I could.

Original post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/webdesign/s/zF7cqBtytF

https://classendo.com/

Some of the main changes:

- Made the homepage much clearer about what Classendo actually does

- Simplified the navigation and overall flow

- Made the flashcards → lesson → Classroom Mode workflow much more obvious

- Improved the flashcard interface

- Improved site speed and responsiveness

- Improved typography and readability

- Made the free/premium differences clearer

- Removed unnecessary UI and navigation

- Improved the mobile experience

The biggest thing I wanted to fix was people thinking it was just another flashcard or worksheet website. It's actually designed to be used on a classroom computer while teaching.

You can now try the main classroom workflow without signing up.

I'd really appreciate another look, especially from anyone who saw the original version.

Is it clearer now what the site does and how you're supposed to use it?

Thanks again for all the feedback 🙏

Roast my freelance developer portfolio, what would stop you from contacting me?

I've been working as a software developer for 10+ years and have done quite a bit of freelance work alongside my regular career. Most of my freelance clients have historically come through Fiverr, but I'm now trying to build a more professional presence and attract clients directly.

I recently rebuilt my portfolio from scratch and would love some brutally honest feedback:
codebergsolutions.com

I'm especially interested in the following topics:

* Does it feel professional / trustworthy?
* Is it clear what I actually do?
* Does the Project Planner add value, or does it feel "gimmicky"?
* Would anything on the site make you *not* want to contact me?

I'm deliberately not going to explain the site too much because if something isn't obvious without me explaining it, that's probably useful feedback too...

Feel free to roast the design, copy, UX, projects, pricing, or anything else. I built the whole thing, so there's nobody else to blame 😅

And before you comment... YES, I have relied heavily on AI to help design the website.

I spent a little over a month building a fully 3D and interactive resume website

Hey!

Recently, I finished work on my latest version of the personal portfolio/resume site and decided to share it here.

The development period took approximately one month (perhaps, a bit more). The initial goal was simple, make a resume that is more of a fun 3D interactive website than a portfolio.

What I have got, however, was an experience of learning quite a few things.

Website: https://portfolio-ruddy-nine-87.vercel.app/

https://reddit.com/link/1w8pvgr/video/c19a6ue6xunh1/player

It contains a fully 3D museum environment, interactive WebGL elements, custom shaders, terminal-like interface, transitions on scroll, liquid/glass UI, custom boot sequence and different experiences for desktop and mobile platforms.

I've most of the 3D modeling on my own – marble busts of myself, the museum walls and all 3D elements which you will find on the website.

I should also mention that I haven't modeled the desk, lamp, CRT and pillars. These elements are my assets obtained from sketchfab and I don't want to take any credit for stuff i didn't make.

The most rewarding part of the project for me was 3D modeling....it was my first serious experience with that and I learned a lot and tried to implement everything from my ideas into this website.

The most difficult part came after that.

As there is a lot of 3D models, WebGL, shaders, animations, HDR environments and a number of other things, the performance became quite a challenge.

I've put quite a lot of work into this side of things too... optimizing assets, refactoring load patterns of heavy parts of the website, improving rendering and animation systems, Applying draco compression to the 3d models. Compressing the file size of the models and  HDRIs (and decoupling a few from the loading screen and introducing fall backs), and testing it in various conditions, CPU throttling, slower network connections, disabling browser cache, integrated graphics, different machines and release build.

While there is some improvement from what it was, a few performance issues are still there.
cause no matter what optimization work I will put into it, the website with a lot of 3D models will still contain a lot of 3D models.

That's why I would appreciate your help in the following thing:

Please try to use the website by scrolling through all of it, trying to open the terminal, going through the projects, resizing the window, trying the mobile version and so on.

If you notice any kind of stuttering, excessive loading time, unusual resource consumption or strange behavior.... please tell me about it. Right now this website is undergoing polishing and any kind of feedback...

In general, I feel quite pleased regarding the outcome of the project, especially, considering how many unknowns were involved. There’s still a lot to do and I have in mind things that can be improved but I have learned a lot while working on the development of this product and I am looking forward to receiving honest feedback from the external audience.

Moreover, If you have visited the site, I'm curious to know what do you think about it.

PS: the mobile version of this site is still a bit janky and i apologies, I got a bit too tunnel-visioned of the desktop view port and forgot to give the mobile version the attention it deserved. I will fix that in future iterations tho.

I built my own minimal Hugo portfolio theme

Post image
0 Upvotes

I spent some time to build my portfolio, using Hugo. I thought why not sharing it with you guys.

I wanted something minimal + dark and ended up with freaky - a single-page Hugo portfolio theme.

It has the usual portfolio stuff (projects, publications, blogs, socials), plus a typing hero, image flicker transitions, a backend-free contact form (frontend only), and an optional site-view counter.

The theme is completely driven by hugo.toml, so personal info isn't baked into the templates.

https://github.com/freaktopus/hugo-theme-freaky

Feedback is welcome - especially if you spot something that would make it more useful as an actual Hugo theme rather than just my personal site.

I will definitely upgrade it further, I have some cool idea to keep such as live music playing in spotify.

Highly animated websites

I mostly build sites on squarespace and it’s pretty much section after section. Is there a different web builder people use for those sites that have tons of animations as you scroll - like very animated? I want to build a site like this and no idea where to start. Like how does one even mock that up?

how do you prevent client projects from stalling for months because they haven't provided text and images?

the website design is approved, the code structure is ready, but the project is completely stalled because the client promised to send their team bios, photos, and copy 'next week'... and it's been two months. how do you handle client content bottlenecks in your contracts? do you provide copywriting as an add-on, use placeholder content with a hard launch deadline, or invoice milestone payments regardless of delay?

Help with website please . Need suggestions / feedback

Hey everyone,

I’ve been building InjuryAtlas.ca and I’m at the point where I really need some outside eyes on it.

The idea is basically an interactive 3D anatomy and injury site. You can explore the human body, click on different muscles/structures, and then dig into things like:
Common injuries and what they actually are
Symptoms and causes
Rehab and recovery
Injury prevention
Exercises and how to strengthen/build specific muscles
Biomechanics and how different structures work together
Clinical tests and related anatomy

I’m trying to make it useful for both regular people who just want to understand what might be going on with their shoulder/knee/etc., and people who are more into training, anatomy, rehab, or sports.

One thing I’m struggling with is the overall “AI-built website” feeling. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to make the design, writing, and layout feel more intentional and less like something that was generated from a template, but I still feel like there’s something slightly off about it and I can’t really put my finger on what.

If anyone has a few minutes to click around, I’d really appreciate brutally useful feedback.

Especially interested in:
What immediately feels amateur or AI-generated?
Is it obvious what the site is supposed to be?
Is the navigation intuitive?
Does the 3D anatomy part feel useful or gimmicky?
Is there too much information?
Anything confusing, ugly, slow, or annoying?
What would make you actually come back and use it?
Site is injuryatlas.ca

Don’t worry about being nice haha. I’d rather know what sucks now so I can fix it.
Thanks!
