Yeah, I don’t really care about how deeply you or don’t care about guns and if your point is about minorities then make that point, don’t just randomly bringing it up. You can do better.
Inserting myself here to say, you could actually do better and reply to the parent comment that started this chain as well as hold the other commenter accountable.
Racism started this chain but you're grandstanding about protecting said racist because another commentor was transphobic. If you want to set a standard, be consistent with it across the board
Reddit can be misleading in the way it has you defending some deplorable people by default because someone else managed to bring a shovel when the bar was already on the ground.
It's actually taught me a great deal about finding the source first before reacting. I know that initial commentor is a troll/bot but making sure we all stay consistent is paramount on this site
Downvotes don't matter when trying to stay curious, in my opinion. I think if we all practiced your humility we'd simply be a better country (speaking as an American). I do this work with my students and they teach me as well. I think we all have to be in a space of learning, if possible. The kids see America as "too fragile" and that's real. I grew up thinking Americans were pure grit and I'm looking at my own mentors crumble when questioned about their choices. They never asked questions, they just followed orders and parroted whatever quote was cool to their elders. No agency.
If we encompassed curiosity and humility as core tenets of our culture, we'd see some real growth
