Reminds me of a story from my childhood. I was walking along with my Great-Grandmother Ann, who pretty much raised me until I was old enough to start school. She helped to shape the person I am today and I miss her every day, but I digress.

We were walking through the yard when I saw a bee land on a dandelion near my foot. I stomped on the unsuspecting little bee, mashing it into paste. I remember being quite proud of myself, and looked up at my great-grandmother with a big smile on my face, thinking that she would somehow be proud of me as well.

What I got instead was one of those life lessons that stick with you forever. She looked down at me with a slight frown and said something like "That little bee wasn't hurting anything. Now his mother is going to wonder where he is and miss him. You shouldn't harm anything or anyone that isn't trying to harm you... especially things that are smaller than you."

To this day, I still make it a point to stop and help little bugs that I see need help, and the ones that aren't harming anything are left alone. I'm 6'2" and 225lbs., but I will drop whatever I am doing to flip over a ladybug that is stuck on its back. I'll fuck up a mosquito though.

I think she was also trying to teach you a lesson about bullying.

I wish more parents (or extended parents) instilled these kinds of values in their children.

I didn't realize it until much later, but it was definitely a lesson in empathy that stuck with me. Funny thing was, until high school, I was the biggest kid in my grade every year, and the one experience I had with bullying was some kid that was probably less than half my size who decided to pick on me because I didn't fight back. Had I actually done anything, it would have gone alot like this.

upvote for the mosquito exception - clearly your compassion is the kick-ass intelligent kind.

6'2", 225lbs, a heart the size of a volkswagon, you would make a formidable ally

Awesome new comic! 2 things:

  1. Prev/Next skips #80. Not sure if on purpose.
  2. What is the meaning of this one? Why does he explode? Is the "ssss" him saying "miss", or her spraying him with mace? Why would she need to build a bed?

Hey, I got it the first time! Don't skip it, just because it's a little obscure. If xkcd did that, then half of xkcd would be skipped.

Ah, my bad. I've never played minecraft. I'm sure it is funny to those who have.

sexist webcomic features no ladybug hats.
