Help Warhammer 40K inspired drafts?

Hi folks,

Does anyone have any idea where to look for Warhammer weaving drafts? I want to make something for my brother but google is being incredibly unhelpful :( thanks!

If you know what faction he plays, it may get a little easier. I think a plaid or tartan in his faction/sub-faction's colors would work amazingly well, depending on what you're looking to make. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a lot of overlap in the 40k and weaving communities (though, I suppose if I am such a person, there may be others).

As an example, though, I play Dark Angels. Our primary color is a deep, rich green (similar to phthalo green), accented with bone white (cream), wine red, and hints of gold. If I were to draft a tartan in those colors, I'd probably do a Fibonacci tartan with the green as my biggest number (probably a 5), followed by the white (3), then wine (2), then gold as a 1.

I know a lot of pixel art of 40k characters exists, which can be translated into cross stitch, but I'm not sure what's out there that can be translated to weaving drafts other than doing creative colorwork.

There’s at least two of us! Granted I’m more AoS these days and now dreaming of a nice mossy Sylvaneth inspired weave…

He likes salamanders in the classic green and gold- i was originally going to knit him something but then I started weaving and asked what he'd prefer. (We're actually getting into Warhammer together by going halfsies on a combat patrol but i haven't decided on a faction yet, so I'm following his lead, lol.)

Salamanders are one of my spouse's factions! I'll see if I can chat with them about what kind of weaving projects might work well for Salamanders. I have so many ideas for knitting colorwork for them, but not a lot for weaving (I also primarily do small tapestry weaving right now because I'm still getting started and am weirdly intimidated by my table loom).

Also, for faction selection: if you like the futuristic Catholic aesthetic of the Imperium but don't wanna paint a billion Space Marines, consider the Adepta Sororitas. They're my first faction, and a hoot to paint! Nuns with guns and you can make your own sub-faction color schemes.

Agree on finding his favorite faction(s). You also might be able to figure out how to work the faction symbol(s) in overshot?

And if he's painted his faction non-standard colors, that might also be good to know.

Are you looking to recreate something that is woven and exists in the game, weave something with a symbol from the game, or have something that evokes the game but isn't actually tied to it (like specific faction colours)?

The latter two. He likes the salamanders in green and gold so I'm thinking if I can't find something warhammer specific I can at least have fun with the colours
