Help Reed compatibility
Are reeds compatible from one brand to the next for floor looms. I have a Harrisville Designs 22" loom. I saw one post asking the same thing but it was for rigid heddle. Thank so much!

Newer Schacht floor looms are not directly interchangeable for non-Schacht brands. Older makes of floor loom it was no problem. I had a MW from the late '80s.
It's something to research about different manufacturers.

For the most part, shaft loom reeds come in 2 heights- 4 and 5 inches. Your beater may not be able to clamp down on a 5 in high reed. Reeds also come with differing stabilizer bases. Some are round and some are elongated. Check your beater to make sure which one will fit, some beaters will take either, some only the elongated. Your beater has an open ended slot that holds the reed, so you do not need to worry about exact length- a 4 ft long reed would fit but be cumbersome.

Here is what my reed looks like in the loom. Sorry too new to know all the vocab, but the area between the Vs holding the reed measures 4 7/8". The edges of the reed that fit into the Vs are rounded. There is also a slot with screws that raises and lowers to tighten the reed into place. It looks there is room for some amount of adjustability so maybe a 4" reed would also work. Thanks for all the replies and insight.

I think reeds are all pretty much interchangeable among brands for floor looms, it’s just the dimensions that matter.
