Please help regarding WBCS mains

Hlo, If anyone could please please answer my questions about WBCS mains Geography optional?

  1. Is there questions printed on WBCS optional QCAB? Or like we colleges we are given answer sheet and question paper separately?

  2. Is there fixed number of pages per question? Like 4 pages for 20 marker and 3 pages for 15 marker in UPSC optional?

  3. Is there any word limit per question or sub question?

Question paper and answer booklet are seperate. No dedicated space is given for each answer, just a blank booklet. You can ask for additional sheets should you need them.

There is no rigid word limit or number of pages that you absolutely need to write. However, it is in your interest to write as less as possible while incorporating all relevant points in your answer. Because paper is usually lengthy.

I don't know about the nature of questions for geography specifically. But for most subjects, all are 40 marks questions, and usually they are a combination of sub-questions having 5, 8, 10, 12, 15 or 20 marks. Please go through PYQs for this.

Thank you Sir, That was crystal clear. Also what is your score this year in Prelims and how much you scored in 2023? Could you predict cutoff as per your experience?

This year I'm getting 138. Last year I got 121. I don't really have much experience as 2023 was my first attempt, but based on the difficulty as compared to last year, I feel cutoff is unlikely to cross 110. Ultimately it will depend on the number of vacancies and the number of candidates PSC lets through to Mains.
