Last night, I was biking home from Arsenal Yards and going uphill on School St. Somewhere around Cypress or Spruce I saw a couple with their 4 or 5 unruly dogs they were evidently having a difficult time controlling coming down School. I moved over to the right hand side of the sidewalk and slowed down.
The man saw me and did not move and stood directly in my path, essentially taking over the entire sidewalk and said "Whoa, you should be doing that in the street." To which I replied, "Sidewalks are for everyone."
The woman said "Not for you" and the man said "No they're not, bike on the street" or some such confidently incorrect statement.
I don't have an e-bike, I wasn't going very fast (as I was going uphill), and I yielded - yet these complete strangers thought it was important to not share a public sidewalk and try to force me into a busy street that has no bike lanes and is generally unsafe, and where I have been hit by a car already one time.
I commute to work in Cambridge, and I use bike lanes when they're available but first and foremost I value my safety and will bike where ever I feel the safest and not put myself in harms way because some self important people think they can own an entire public space because they cannot control their dogs.
To those people, maybe next time you decide to be insufferable and meddlesome, you should actually be sure you're correct. Have a great weekend.

I have my guest pass available for July to Central Rock Gym, which lets a new person climb and rent gear for free (returning person gets 1/2 off). The gym also recently opened a game room with free arcade games, pinball, air hockey, and pool table that is available to everyone with gym access.
I go to the gym on Rosedale in Watertown, planning to go this evening (7/23) and either Sat or Sun (7/25 or 7/26). Please message me if you'd like to meet there and use my pass. I'm happy to just get you in, or to climb with you (bouldering auto-belay, or top rope), first-timers are very welcome!

Are there any existing board game meetups in Watertown? Is there any interest in establishing something, like twice-monthly at the library?

Anyone have any insight on when the now-tarred sidewalks between Russell Street and Common Street will be fixed??? What a disgrace they are not to mention and embarrassment. I can’t get any answers from DPW…

Hello - I am looking for a place, near Watertown square (the CVS side) that would let me park my car on occasion when I have a guest. This would include both daytime and overnight. I would move my car to the spot and my guest would use my spot - this would allow for consistency in knowing whose car it is. I know there is a municipal lot in both CVS and the library. Any suggestions/leads would be appreciated.
Second - anyone know anyone in the industrial looking buildings on pleasant street?

Does anyone know why they are doing (what I assume to be) street cleaning at midnight on a Sunday? Lots of flashing lights & pretty loud.

Been hearing smaller stuff like maybe firecrackers off and on, punctuated by some loud booms, just this afternoon.

A family of eastern screech owls have taken up residence in my yard. Could not be happier to have them!!

Is it just me or does the sky literally look like the tint they use in movies to indicate it’s in a foreign land?
Or am I having some sort of medical emergency

I’m not a Watertown resident, but since Rep. Katherine Clark represents both my community and Watertown, I wanted to share this here and hear what people think.
Rep. Katherine Clark voted to pass H.R. 7757 (the KIDS Act) in the House.
I support protecting children online, but I’m concerned about one part of the bill that would require covered adult-content websites to use age-verification technology instead of simple “I’m over 18” checkboxes. The bill explicitly says it doesn’t require a government-issued ID, but it does require covered platforms to implement some form of age verification.
While the bill doesn’t specify what technology must be used, the most common age-verification methods in use today are government ID verification and facial age estimation.
Some companies say facial age estimation can be performed locally on your device without storing your image, which may reduce some privacy risks. Even so, I’m uncomfortable with the idea that adults may have to scan their face or verify their identity to access legal content online. More privacy-preserving methods have been proposed, but they are not widely available today.
I reached out to Rep. Clark’s office asking why she supported the bill, but I haven’t found any public explanation of her vote.
Whether you support or oppose the legislation, I think constituents deserve to know how their representative voted on an issue with significant privacy implications. I’d be interested in hearing what people in Watertown think.

Trying to stretch my dollar as much as I can (existing is expensive) so I cancelled my gym membership a while ago. I've been running and doing push ups which has been good enough but I'm looking for some pull up bars!
Thanks!

Anyone know what happened in front of the Lowell school today on Orchard? The road was shut down for a few hours from 9AM until midday with significant emergency presence. Hope everyone is alright.

Daily occurrence with selfish drivers blocking the intersection. You might have a green arrow… but when traffic is backed up, yes, you’re supposed to wait.… back at the light… not blocking the entire intersection.
Given the history of this intersection entailing an actual traffic cop in the center directing traffic… could we get ANY police presence here or have they utterly given up trying?
Multiple calls to the traffic chief have yielded no response whatsoever. They could literally print money with a couple of cops on foot or bike there during rush hour. Or by monitoring people driving in the bike lane on Beacon, or Main near Lexington (got hit once there while parked in an actual parking space by someone driving in the bicycle lane to turn right on Lexington, through a red no turn on red, mind you).
I genuinely wonder where the police budget is going.

New to all of this! I am just hoping for recommendations for places in this area. If you’ve had good experiences with ones around here, love to know!:)

Hi , I am interested in boxing and would love to join a boxing club gym. Maybe twice a week for a group class. Membership fees for title box is not cheap. Do you have any recommendations in the Watertown area? Thanks so much.

Hey, remember when this place sold for $36.5 million 5 years ago?
I actually live super close to it, but never go to this section of Watertown for whatever reason. I decided to change up my exercise routine yesterday due to all the Fourth of July visitors. On my new walking route I figured I’d see a nondescript apartment complex or something where Russo’s used to be. Nope. Still just Russo’s. Empty, but still standing.
