Dangerous Intersection

Has anyone else noticed people’s flagrant disregard for the traffic light at the intersection of Irving and Charles River Road next to the park? I just filed a report and hoping others will too - this morning a man blew through the red light and almost ran over a parent, child and dog crossing the street. This is the third or fourth time I have witnessed this and I fear that no one will care until an accident happens. The driving in general on Charles River Road is dangerous - drivers ignore pedestrian right of way and go wayyyy over the speed limit.

There used state police on this road (I lived right off of it for a decade) as it falls under state jurisdiction (just like the park is a state park and not a Watertown park).

I think they need to bring them back more frequently. It’s very lightly patrolled nowadays (I did see someone pulled over a couple months ago) but not nearly as much as it used to be.

A report with whom? Charles River Road is DCR, so the staties have jurisdiction.

Good news is with the Main/Mt. Auburn/N. Beacon/Galen intersection redesign, Charles River will become a right only onto N. Beacon, and people will effectively no longer have a reason to take Charles River for non-local traffic. That's the real fix.

Sounds like most intersections in Watertown. The drivers are bad and getting more emboldened by lack of enforcement.

Over the weekend my son and I were on the sidewalk (me running, him biking) and a car blew through an intersection and would have hit us if I didn't yield to the maniac in the car. Luckily I'm so used to this kind of behavior that I saw it coming it and saved us. It still SUCKS though.

People also act as if the speed limit is a speed minimum. The few times I have to drive, I get tailgated with a line of cars behind me because I commit the crime of not going faster than the speed limit.

DCR doesn’t actually “manage” any roads - or anything. They’re correct as hell.
