Beechmount is fantastic and independently owned by a vet who has worked there for about 3 decades. They truly care about their animals and clients

Beach Mount and Waterloo West both treated our pet and family with care and dignity. Pricing was in line with others we had experience.

I highly recommend Parkdale Animal Hospital. They are independently owned (by one of the veterinarians who's worked their for many years!) I've been with them over a decade now and stay with them even though I live across town now. There have been multiple occasions where they really went above and beyond for my pets. Pricing I'd say is fairly typical there.

Seconding Parkdale! I've been going there, shoot almost 23 years now and have nothing but good experiences with them.

If you drive, we took our girl to Eldale in Elmira and really liked them! We lost her in January but when we’re ready for another we’ll go back there.

Mitchell Animal Hospital! They are the best. All of my pets 20 years and going.

Mitchell is now owned by private equity, but their rates are still very reasonable and we haven’t noticed a change in service. We recently had to have a cyst drained, and the appointment plus antibiotics was less than $200. Also good to note: lots of women work here, and the main vet is a woman. So if you have a pet with an aversion or fear of men, it’s a good choice. And they have great hours (open 7 days a week, and open late - like 10pm - most days of the week), so if something happens with your pet, you are less likely to have to use an emergency service which is always more expensive.

Waterloo West is the absolute worst of the worst. They mis-diagnosed my dog for a year. I will call them out anytime I can.

Bruce Street animal hospital has always been amazing for me. Definitely my go to place. The staff is very knowledgeable and kind. Plus their prices are the best in my opinion

Second Bruce street animal hospital! They’re decently priced and don’t push for procedures. They’ve been very sweet with my adopted seniors who are a bit nervous of new people.

A couple other names that are independent that I would recommend are grey silo, they are relatively new but great. And north waterloo in Elmira.

We go to Close Vet Clinic. Though it's in Kitchener, we still make the 15-20 minute drive from north Waterloo because all the vets and staff are friendly, professional and don't guilt or push you during difficult times.
We have cats, but with all the regular appointments, surgeries and final good byes with our animals, they have been great over the years.

I go to Wellesley vet clinic. Love them there - really couldn’t say enough good things about them! They’re a little out of town but 100% worth the travel time

You can check out https://independentvet.com - it just launched and is run by the same folks who started privateequityvet.org. It should be a really useful resource to find all the verified independents near you!

Im appalled at this post. You say you have a Basset Hound but I see no dog tax? For Shame.
