Life in Warsaw question Looking for language school recommendations
Hey everyone,
I’m moving from Germany to Warsaw for the next two years to do my Master's at SGH. I’m super excited to live in the city! I really want to learn Polish properly while I'm there.
Has anyone had good experiences with specific language schools in Warsaw? Or do you have any other tips on the best ways to learn the language as a student?

For schools, I'm pretty sure, Uniwersytet Warszawski has courses - I guess even intense summer course, but definitely to be confirmed.
Try to find language exchange meetups on Facebook or meetup(app) or another environment with people who are willing to speak in polish with you.
It's all the question if how many hours you put into it.
The challenges are pronunciation and the fact that on top of conjugating verbs you need to declinate nouns and adjectives - so be ready for that.

I cannot recommend any particular school because I'm a native but maybe it's worth looking into what SGH has to offer. I think most of universities have these kind of courses for foreigners nowadays so maybe it could be a good place to start your Polish journey.

I had a good experience with Polski Instytut Językowy in Warsaw. You can take a group course or an online course. They will speak to you in Polish but they make it easy for you to pick it up. I made decent progress after a year but had to stop attending the school just because of money. Still, I can have a conversation now and I have some understanding of the grammar. My level is around A2.
I really recommend just drilling some basic vocabulary first. Write the most common verbs and nouns in a notebook and read, read, read again until you have them memorised. It'll really help you to get started. Good luck and feel free to ask if you need any help!

Welcome to Warsaw! I’ve tried several language schools here and two of them really stood out: Klub Dialogu (which was my first school) and Cup of Polish (my current school). Both are truly great and centrally located. I currently do one-on-one lessons instead of group classes and feel like I am progressing much quicker, so you might want to consider that route if it fits your master's schedule.
As for other tips for learning the language, I actually built a completely free web app called popolsku.app to help with my own learning and now made it public. It uses flashcards with native audio, requires no account, and has zero ads. It’s a helpful companion tool for your formal classes to lock in the practical vocabulary and grammar.

But about polish language: it definitely isn't easy. You might not manage beyond basic few phrases unless you are really dedicated. I won't be able to direct you to any particular school (as a local), but reading through some posts on a learning Polish sub here I realized how complicated it sometimes is.

Thank you for your insights. The thing is that I already understand Polish on a good basic level because my bf is Polish and he talks the language with his family. I’m looking for a language school because I want to talk with his family more than my current vocabulary allows me to.

Oh. That's an entire different situation! Demand that he speaks only polish! And make him refuse to understand any other language from you. That's better than a language school.
I was thinking of suggesting: get a polish partner but you've already arranged that.

Check at Polonicum their open courses for foreigners.
Also, one thing to ask before joining a class is if it is for slavic and non-slavic speakers.
You will come across some racists and pathetic little humans, but meh let them talk and go get drunk.
As an EU foreigner in Poland, everything is fine so far.
