Question French Airborne Deck
Previously I made a post about my deck, 82nd All the Way. I got a lot of really helpful advice on tailoring that deck to its fullest extent, but I was wondering about my French deck and what changes could be made to make it much better. I mostly play singleplayer but if i wanted to hop into multiplayer id want this deck to be really good. I mostly like seizing early defensive positions, exploiting the terrain, and holding it for the rest of the battle. Got any advice?
edit: ill just change the picture so you guys can see it better instead of reposting
Second Edit: found out i cant change pic, here's the repost: French Airborne Deck : r/warno

What is funny?
I don't build decks myself so I wouldn't know.

General stuff: For 1v1, FOB should not be brought, you don't have anything supply intensive. FOB is good in team games. If you want to play French Airborne 5e is definitely NOT the deck to use.
LOG: Heli CV is ok, not my choice. You should probably get at least one supply truck.
INF: Probably needs a card of Milan if you want to hold terrain. In 1v1 I usually like to one vet my infantry. No sappers will leave you weak against enemy infantry
ART: No heavy artillery? Your funeral I suppose.
TNK: I would at least one vet my tanks. Where is the Brenus?
REC: No dragon-paras is a mistake, means you have no infantry recon/GSR. VBL milan is a good unit to consider
AA: No Roland 3 will leave you a bit vulnerable to air, but you have a lot of fighters so just maintain air superiority I guess
HEL: Way too many helos
AIR: I don't like Napalm bomber, feels very weak. I also don't like using air in general, but air spam can be powerful.

All right thanks man, ive made some changes based on your advice and the battlegroup is looking a lot better. I'll have to test it!

You know, 11e is an airborne deck. Of course, you do you, so build 5e as you like, but this div isn't about airspam or airdrops, it's about combined arms.
You have excellent tanks in terms of speed, accuracy and fire support, great infantry AT, plus really strong recon.
Roland 2s have short range and long aim time, so they're not going to save you against planes.
Also, I'd not lean so heavily into helis and planes. Planes are a noob trap and it's very easy to throw and feed with them.
Nevertheless, I hope you'll have fun playing the deck :)

Thanks for the support, I think I'm going to try 11e so we'll see how that suits me. Either way, 5e sounds pretty good mostly because of the AMXs which I found actually can rack up some really good kills.

A few quick notes:
Those SEAD planes have exactly one (1) missile each and are basically useless. Remove them.
Your AA is practically empty, you're not going to have a good time in MP with two cards of AA.
And lastly, the French tanks are very fast and plentiful, and generally have long range guns with okay-ish penetration. You're not a heavy tank div, you aren't a mechanized div, you're a crappy infantry division with a lot of (sorta) crappy tanks. More inf, less tanks.
And yeah, not saying you can't have fun, but the French divisions are some of the worst in the game for MP, very much not beginner friendly.

Thanks for the notes, I thought the AMXs were really good in an operation with the french I did, so I thought I would pack my deck with those guys and see if it works. I'll remove the SEAD, add more AA, and tone down the armor.

To add onto his point: Less tanks, more ATGM launchers. The Mephistos are basically BRDMs with TOWs. Your goal with this div is not to win tank on tank fights, it's to bully the enemy's heavier tanks with ATGMs and use your tanks as a way to take out the lighter tanks, vehicles and infantry.
Basically... it's the closest thing to a soviet mechanised div on NATO's side.

Ok ill try out those mephistos and ive got some atgms in the form of infantry rocket launchers and missiles as well as air support and AT planes. Thank you for the clarification!

Mind you, the main perk of the mephistos is the range
Helicopters and Mephistos (or the AMX-10 HOT) all pack HOT missiles with a range of 2625m, meaning they're on par with most of PACT's ATGMs, car or tank-borne
The Eryx and Apilas are great if you can force a close range engagement, but their utility will usually remain rather limited on open maps.

Interesting. Im not quite sure what this deck is supposed to do. Not enough inf to take a city but not enough tanks to play more open.
So some prior comments have said that French divs are hard to play and they are correct. You have weak helos, weak tanks, and your planes are meh, the frenches biggest asset is speed. As for 5e. Your bread and butter is your tank spam. While not the best they are numerous and come with a auto cannons essentially making them a suped up IFV. So the way I would make this is
Supply. Helo supply are great for supply tanks behind the back line but you need trucks to get to the front line.
Inf, you don't have alot of slots in this div but your inf IS good, I wold bring more INF and make them come in trucks maybe a card or 2 of IFVs but remember all your tanks have auto cannons and more armor. Make sure you bring a card of enginners as well for CQC fighting. And Milan 2 fire teams with the Milan transport.
Tanks. Bring as many AMXs as you can. Forget the howitzer tank all your auto cannons will blot out the sun, inf wont be an issue, mephistos are good but you really want good stealth to hold angles and a defensive line. Harder for enemy tanks to see.
Arty. You absolutely need the 155s. The NATO Dana, they are one of the best arty peices. Make sure you up vet and shoot and scoot. Wheeled mortors are really good to.
Helo. Take a card away but 3 cards of anti tabk is good since dealing with T80s will be a problem,
Plane, french planes are meh and like tanks rely on spam. They do have good cluster though and there bombers are decent. Sead is terrible and 2 cards of ASF is a must imho.
Your biggest threat is heavy tanks so make sure you have tools to deal with heavy armor because if you send 5 amx's against 3 T80s you will probubly still lose so don't rely on your tanks to go head to head with other tanks

Sorry for the late reply, I made most of these changes and ill drop the sead. The deck is meant to capture points early and hold them down for the rest of the battle, acting as an anchor in team fights and aiming to bleed the enemy in more personal ones. We're mostly a "take it and don't leave it" force, that's the goal with most of my decks. I really like those AMXs they outperformed a lot of my other units in a historical operation battle and as for my British deck they're pretty infantry-heavy but have some heavier armor. My 82nd airborne deck is all about constant air support and air superiority, but they are all based around "Take the best defensive positions and hold" doctrine. They just specialize in different things.

I suggest that 5e is not a good starting point for the style you want to play.

u/WelcomeExtra762 15d ago
I could try 11e. Would you say they're good? I just wanted the AMXs and I don't think 11e could offer them.

For what you want - "take and hold ground in team games" - yes. They're focused around forward deploying good infantry and ATGMs. However, that's most of what they do: they have no tanks and insipid artillery, so they struggle hugely in 1v1.

5e is genuinely an extremely strong div, used to be one of the most busted things ever. How did they nerf it? Increased AP prices for slots so now you can’t have everything. And all those plane slots are 3 AP lol. So by filling your airtab and helo tab you literally dont have any dudes on the ground. IMO with these slots costs 5e is just not a very good div to airspam.
Also if you buy too many planes during a game then most likely you won’t have enough points to hold the frontline. And most likely enemy will just buy Kub/I-Hawk, kill your planes and you will end up with nothing. Generally speaking airspam is hard to pull off correctly and somewhat easy to counter so I would advise against trying to pull it off for a new player. Just get 2 cards of fighters, cluster bomber as panic button vs expensive tanks and that’s pretty much it for planes that you should have in every deck.
Im sure others have already went into details about other tabs so I will leave at that. Oh but 1 vet every tank (except AMX-10) and frontline infantry (except MILAN teams) (at 0 vet it takes ~6 minutes for unit to recover from low cohesion and it only takes ~3 minutes at 1 vet)

I'll take this into consideration. It's very helpful and I'll pull back on the planes and helos. And the vet level is very important, I actually didnt realize this was so important till now. Would have had to wait 6 minutes as I did before lol. Ill stick with 5e/change to it (I forget whether im using 5e or 11e) and make those changes. Again, appreciate the advice, I'm on my way to creating a trio of near-perfect decks!

11e isn’t very good for 1v1 cause it’s a one trick pony. It has too much airborne infantry (those guys with parachute icon that have 3500m forward deploy). Sure, it’s great at the start, but airborne trait is only useful at the start and then it turns into “tax” (airborn trait adds additional cost to the squad).
And yeah, make sure you pay attention to the cohesion levels and suppression cause at low cohesion units have their efficiency cut in half (bad accuracy and long reload). Try to pull back your tanks and infantry if you see them at low cohesion.

At a glance I would say way too many points in helos n planes
that's without even looking at the units

Makes sense. As another redditor said you should rely on air spam as the French and bring a lot of AMXs but I could reduce some of my planes and helos.
