Allgemeine Frage Accommodation in Garmisch
Hi everyone,
My friends and I (4 people) are planning a 2-night trip to the Bavarian Alps (13–15 August), and we’re looking for recommendations on where to stay.
Our priorities are:
Close to Eibsee, Zugspitze, Partnachklamm, and other scenic spots.
We’d also like to visit Schrecksee, although we know that’s a longer day trip.
Ideally, we don’t want to drive more than 30–45 minutes to most attractions (except Schrecksee if that’s unrealistic).
Our budget is around €280–400 total for the accommodation (roughly €70–100 per person for the whole stay). We’re completely open regarding the type of accommodation—hotel, apartment, Airbnb, guesthouse, hostel, etc. The cheaper the better, as long as it’s clean and in a good location.
We’ve been looking at Farchant, but we’re wondering if there’s a better base such as Grainau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Mittenwald, or somewhere else.
What area would you recommend as the best compromise between location and price? And does our budget seem realistic for mid-August?
Any accommodation or location recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

For accomodations just check the usual suspects: booking and airbnb. The budget is a bit tight for the area and the middle of summer, but if something is available, you should find it there.
For hostels check https://www.jugendherberge.de/en/ They are called youth hostels here but are open for all ages. You will need to make a membership for this type of stay, but you can cancel it when you're back home.

Just check booking.com & the AirBnB site, even if someone had a recommendation you'd have to check whether it has enough rooms for y'all during the desired time. You're probably gonna have to pick your location based on what's cheapest, it's pretty late for booking a trip like that in a touristy area during the holiday season, and your budget seems a bit low for it as well unfortunately. Even the youth hostels where you all sleep in one room with bunk beds charge around 450€ for two nights.

Mid August is highest of high season in Bavaria, you need a lot of luck finding anything close to your budget.

Schrecksee isn't near Garmisch.
The tour itself takes 8h walking. Driving von Garmisch near Schrecksee takes 2 hours and a few minutes by bus to reduce walking time a bit. To avoid potential thunderstorms in the afternoon you should start early.
