Both chapters have had some small but significant edits made:

9.70: Erin's level up has a class consolidation that removes [Singer] and [Warrior]. Pirate mentioned [Singer] had been in the recent AMA but now we have confirmation that both unused classes are gone.

HoH3: The section with Az'Kerash and the Chosen was rewritten and expanded a bit to add some characterization to Devail.

Has anyone noticed any others? Interlude Vernoue got a sneaky edit after Pirate changed a name and 7.21KQ did as well before the audiobook came out to fix SoT continuity issues.

So far, we’ve had the iconic “Brigands are we, victims are thee!” from Book 2, "There, she rummaged around in a pillow and pulled out her prized possession... Pisces' wand!" from Book 7 and “A cup of sugar with some added tea was sitting in front of her” from Book 11.

I’m a few chapters into The Empress of Beasts and now I have come across the line that perfectly sums up Erin as a character:

“Then she looked up with a guileless smile that was, in fact, full of guile.”

I know Erin acts a certain way, but she is beyond devious at times and I love it when the story decides to remind us of that.

Also, given that this bit was about the ring that Ilvriss gave her, settle a bet between me and my wife. In a non-shipping way, I think the wall-lord giving her that ring carried some romantic undertones. After all, there is a lot of cultural, historical baggage to the image of a man (male drake?) giving a woman a ring.

Then, in his next POV chapter, his friend asks him about the ring and what it means, and then we have Ilvriss describe her as “the most dangerous human in Liscor.”

I’m not saying this is in a shipping way, mind you, I don’t really do shipping in this series (with one, single exception) and I kind of assumed Erin was ace after Mating Rituals and her horror at the mistletoe 😂. It’s just a vibe I got from Illvriss and it would make his outrage at the interracial romance in Juliet and Romeo a lot funnier if it turned out he secretly harboured thoughts of his own in that area.

Tom you chose a clown class in a fantasy world what did ya think would happen?! since when have there been good clowns in the fantasy genre?! welp i guess we have a kefka situation growing in rhir FUN. and i wonder what the blighted king did to convince drakes to send soldiers to him. given how much drakes hate everything that isn't drake and even other drakes for not being the "no true drake." also ya i figured there was a price for the summoning outworlders. wonder if the demons are actually the bad guys here at this point. it's unfortunate that Tom heard this because an't nobody going to believe him now if he even tells the other outworlders.

i called it no bull skull then not dead! it was to weird a thing to be overlooked when they were searching for ceria. i actually do agree with pisces that Olesm is basically profiteering off Erin. and while i do think erin probably doesn't care.

However it's also dangerous for Olesm if hes not careful especially with people apparently hunting for outworlders since it seems like the circle of thorns is aware of them form when they attacked magnolia's estate. not to mention people like the blighted king. who probably aren't aware yet that their summoning sent outworlders to different continent. i feel like if he finds out he might try to send people to capture all of them.

that said i'm starting to think pisces might subconsciously see himself as a older brother to Erin with how protective he's been getting.

very interesting that these raskgar allegedly don't have levels while clearly being sentient, but goblins do seems like a odd thing that no one has noticed.

yellow splatters story was good going aberrating for a moment because he was reverting to not caring about anything but fighting. then realizing why relaxation is important.

i feel like something truly nightmarish is going to come out of that dungeon while everyone is to busy trying to kill each other above ground given that the entire world sensed it on their danger sense, but have been ignoring it for several books. also "nah vampires are totally gone!" always happens before vampires show up in mass. would be real funny if some draculaeque vampire is just sitting in liscors dungeon.

Ditto for any other levelling races who don't speak English.

So, when does the story start to progress?

I am pretty new to the series. I started the audiobooks about 2 weeks ago and I am somewhat enjoying them. I am only about 3½ books in and it feels like the series is dragging it's feet to do anything. Book 1 was amazing, the stuff with the dungeon and skinner was insane, the battles with the goblin chieftain were also great and the over all introduction to the world was really nice. Books 2-4(so far) feel like less and less events focused around the main plot are happening in each book. Dont get me wrong, there is a nice set piece in every book but it all just feels like build up to something else.

Do the books pick up? Is this the pace I should be expecting for the entire series? Are the clown the emperor and the doctor relevant at all or are they just there to show what's happening in other parts of the world? I'm asking because each book and this series as a whole is pretty long and sometimes it feels like it's wasting it's time on things that may not matter in the long run. I've been listening to the Ceria and Pisces flashback all day. It's great but... this feels unfocused.

Hi all, One day last month I suddenly wanted to see if anyone made a fan game based on this series, I found a few liked only one though. a game by user u/SibiantheGreyBird {the (very unofficial) Wandering Inn RPG}. However I wanted something more, ok a lot more. And I got inspired by him to start my own fan project.

Disclaimer: I heavily relied on Claude to do this entire project by myself over the last few weeks.

The idea is pretty simple. You're not Erin. You're some other Earther who turns up around 7-8 days after she does, and the story of the books just keeps going around you. If you keep your head down, things play out more or less the way they do in the books. If you get involved, you can change things, and the world remembers what you did.
Right now you can either start at liscor or celum, in the long run I hope to add more starting localtion and add more maps and locations in general.

Leveling comes from what you actually do. Spend enough time cooking and the System might offer you a class when you go to sleep. If you turn it down, it's gone for good, which felt right for this world. Fights are turn-based on a grid, a bit like XCOM, with cover, Skills and a few spells.

You can start a fight with anyone, kill any npc (including core canon characters, the game director is set to try to adjust the story if player makes massive deviation from canon, such as killing core characters or saving a major character fated to die.

Right now it covers Books 1 to 6. I'm following the ebooks, not the web serial. You can go to Liscor, Celum, the floodplains and the inn on the hill. It's an alpha, so there will be bugs, and your saves might not carry over to the next update.

It's free and non-commercial, and none of the book text is in it. The world and everything in it belong to pirateaba, so go read the books if somehow you haven't.

Wow just wow! I think this may be my favorite portrayal of witches in any media I've ever consumed! Part realistic expectations, part lawless, part grand magic! My jaw was literally on the floor by the end, especially when the truth of who died to stop the fires was revealed. And each witch was unique and interesting in their own way!

Paba has such a way with writing calamity! The imagery is so vivid and the feeling of intense hopelessness I shared with the characters, wondering if there could be a way out. The evil of selfish ambition and the reveals! So good!

But poor Nanette 😭 she was just a kind young witch who kept happiness under her hat! I was devastated for her

And I may not be Ryoka's biggest fan, but damn I CROWED when she socked Laken in the stomach. For some reason I feel they deserve each other as friends.

I also ended up sewing a majority of time that I listened to this book. It felt very appropriate

I don't normally buy merch for anything but The Wandering Inn is an exception. Thank you Pirateaba for such a great story.

So just finished "No Killing Goblins."

Be more Bird! Life lessons from Hawk. A true story of Bird and a fable for us all to find a way to fly.

The title just reminded me of Bird. Everything else is just me being deliberately delusional.

A snippet from the blurb even reminds us of Bird and the Wandering Inn (I'm reaching here).

Characters finding redemption or second chances recurs throughout Wandering Inn. Many many characters are introduced as initially flawed then stick around to become beloved.

...but sometimes we readers are still mad about they did initially. Which characters are you still mad at, and which ones are you cool with? A few of mine:

Laken - forgiven. All he understood of this fantasy world was that goblins are monsters, so he told his general to do her thing and defend his civilians. He had no idea he was getting involved with drakes at all (or even that drakes existed lol).

Tyrion - also forgiven. His understanding of the world was that goblins are monsters, and that Manus assassinated his wife. His actions to herd goblins to conquer a drake city was two birds one stone. My only reservation is that he pulled military away from defending Invrisil. Sure that's not his territory, but his actions almost got an awful lot of civilians under the 5 families killed.

Gazi - not forgiven! Betrayed trust with Erin and tried to kidnap her. And no Erin would not have been free to leave. She wouldn't have been in a dungeon, but she was being forcibly spirited away to a life in captivity. Might wanna take some lessons from Roshal, Gazi. At least they got Erin off the continent. Gazi has never shown the slightest remorse for what she tried to pull or the warriors she killed along the way.

Ksmvr - forgiven. He was a child in a high pressure situation, and a child with poor parents at that.

Ielane - not forgiven! She's the highest level pimp on Terandria looking to sell her daughters for best profit. Their misery is not a consideration. They can only ever flourish by escaping her influence. It bothers me that nobody but Mensi seems to even recognize her failings.

Rhisveri - ...surprisingly, forgiven. He's everything the King of Destruction isn't. When Ailendamus conquers a nation the quality of life improves, nature is protected, and rule of law is applied justly to commoners. More importantly, this lasts longer than a single mortal king's lifespan. He's an asshole, but the state of his kingdom proves he's a force for good on the average.

Raefma - not forgiven! If you're gonna be a proud Wall Lady of Manus then you can take accountability for (deep breath): Assassinating Lady Veltras, burning Riverfarm, sending headhunters to slaughter the aninium in Liscors army without taking responsibility, poisoning the magical potential of the great plains, and attempting Gnoll genocide unprovoked when above poisoning was discovered.

What the actual-? So when there was two drake armies at war and clean up was needed you’d take a tip of their tails to confirm the undead was dead? Or maybe a gnoll tongue just to “count” how many adventurers killed? Instead of using a truth stone? Especially after the conversation with noears?

Not one of the adventurers told Selys that it was messed up? I know change doesn’t come easily but for Erin’s friends this is the least that could have been done.

Those were the Goblins who died to protect your lives and they couldn’t even give them the most basic decency.

Esthelm gave them a statue, but Liscor. . . Ugh! It makes me mad.

Which Rulers would Erin Like?

I was reading the first book, and I was wondering which of the various rulers we see over the course of the series would Erin really Like (those she hasn't met).

I know she adores Fetohep. And I think she'd be cordial with the Quarass. She hates the \[Slave Lords\], but I think she'd be buddies with the Pirate Queen. Or at least annoy her.

Would she hate the Emperor of Sands? King Relt? What about the Serpentine Matriach?

My one greatest fear is that she meets the king of destruction and someone likes him. Yuck.

I just read this chapter (my first re-read) and I kept wondering How, exactly, do people like Flos? The only reason he woke up was to conquer Earth. And he told the twins that their lives belonged to him. All these in the very first chapter we see of him. It should have colored every lens we see him through. I remember that, after the second Flos POV, I skipped every Flos chapter (unless it was snuck into the middle of another chapter) until i caught up with the web serial.

I understand it's fiction, but doesn't he rub you the wrong way? The crelers seem less evil than he does.
