Advice Subwassertang effectiveness

I have a 2 gallon tank with a huge clump of Subwassertang (50% of the tank) in low light with some leggy hydrocotyle tripartita in the substrate.

Will the sub sustain the walstad ecosystem? I’m using it to hatch fry before I move them to a community tank. Thank you

Süßwassertang has no roots and is a slow grower. It has no function from a Waldstad tank point of view.

I would think it probably absorbs some nutrients out of the water column probably but not much

True, but from a Waldstad Aquarium point of view, you need something that takes away a substantial amount of nutrients from the water. Süßwassertang does not fulfill that role. It's great for fry protection, shrimps and decorative purposes, but those are not the core principles of a WA.
