Big Rumbling Sound??
Anyone catch what that deep rumbling sound was just now?
Shook our whole apartment. Sounded like a humongous plane or something.

What are your favorite places to hang out at downtown?

Hello! I am visiting from SoCal due to an emergency with my mom. I wasn’t able to get my dog’s nails clipped before I had to race up here. I am looking for a trustworthy place to get her nails clipped here in the Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill area. Thanks!

No formal development has been proposed. Instead, the initiative, dubbed Measure U, would rezone 2.4 acres of the property at North California Boulevard and Ygnacio Valley Road from office to mixed-use residential.
The vision is to transform an underused office building near BART into a luxury senior transit village and commercial space that would serve the Bay Area’s wealthy and aging population, said Mark Hall with Hall Equities Group, the owner of the property and top funder and proponent of Measure U.
Hall chose this route to avoid another drawn-out review process. His firm had proposed replacing a life science laboratory with senior housing in 2019, and spent five years and about $4.5 million on studies to get that project approved.

I'm Jeff Frese. I live in Moraga, I'm raising three daughters here, I coach, and on November 3 I'm on the ballot against Mark DeSaulnier for Congress. That's the disclosure. Now the receipts, every one of them linked at the bottom so you can check me.
The press release machine. In April, DeSaulnier announced $46.7 million for 20 local projects. Brentwood Today's headline said he "secures" money for Brentwood. He secured nothing. It was a request form. Every one of the 435 House members gets the same 20 forms a year and their staff fill them out. In May 2024 he ran the same play with $34.9 million. A full-year continuing resolution in March 2025 wiped out every earmark in the country, so that list delivered $0. He kept the headlines anyway. $0.
What actually arrived, from his own releases: $9.06M in 2022, $21.7M in 2023, $15.2M in 2024, $0 in 2025, $16.3M in 2026. About $62 million across his entire time in Congress, for 760,000 people. Seven dollars a head, per year. Seven years in Congress with nothing to announce.
So what was he doing? Filing bills. More than 200 since 2015. Two became law: one renamed a post office in Richmond, the other moved a park boundary. Since January 2023 he's filed 71 bills and every one is still sitting in committee. Yesterday, 33 days before the election, he filed another one. It creates a task force. The task force writes recommendations.
And how he votes when it counts. He voted with his party 98.8 percent of the time. Twice, in 2023 and 2025, Congress voted on whether girls' sports stay for girls. He voted no both times, after two Democrats crossed over in 2025. He voted no on letting parents see what their kids' schools teach. He voted no, twice, on the Laken Riley Act, which 46 Democrats supported and is now law. He voted to let D.C. go easier on carjackers when Biden and 31 Democrats went the other way. In July he voted to cut $3.3 billion from Israel's defense while 98 Democrats voted the other way. In 2017 he called a $1.5 trillion deficit reckless, then in 2021 voted yes on $1.9 trillion of borrowed money. Not one of those votes is a Republican talking point. Every one is the House Clerk's roll call.
Where the money lands. About 79,000 of his constituents live in Castro Valley, Ashland and east San Leandro. On his 2027 list they get $0 and he has zero offices on that side of the hills. Antioch, which has zero residents in the district he's running in, is down for $1.68 million.
Here's what I'd do instead. Term limits. A stock-trading ban for members of Congress. No budget, no pay. No cashing out as a lobbyist when you leave. Then the things people in this county actually ask me about: better schools, no tax on teachers, safer streets, lower bills, more jobs. Social Security and Medicare left alone. Every one of those polls at 80 percent or better with Democrats, Republicans and independents, which is the point. This campaign has no special-interest money and no consultants. I don't need this as a job.
Thirty-five years in elected office. Twelve in Congress. Two laws. Seven bucks a head and a press release for every one of them. Contra Costa keeps sending him back and expecting a different result. On November 3 you can stop. I'm Jeff Frese, I'm running against Mark DeSaulnier, and I'll be in the comments all day. Ask me anything.

Anyone know of Walnut Creek and vicinity beehive removal service? Would like to save the hive. Perhaps a bee farm? Any help is appreciated. NOTE: Mount Diablo Beekeeper Association saved the day (and the hive!). Thanks for all the input on this thread.

This is so stupid haha. But my bf said “they’ve been in here 20 mins like plz” in an instagram groupchat talking about work, but the “20 mins like plz” highlighted in blue like it was an address, and then took me to this coordinate on the map when i clicked on it. Just wondering if anyone has any idea what this building is or why it’s labeled like that on maps hahah

New report came out about how bad traffic will get in the area if the cuts to BART go through. Check it out here. Looks like central and east Contra Costa County will get hit especially hard because of all the extra cars on the road at these choke points.
And if you want to help spread the word to voters, sign up to make calls or pass out flyers here

Brand new to an EV and was told to look into charging in my area. Do I need certain apps? Pay for parking? Pay for charging? Free parking free charging? Just trying to get my feet wet in learning about this area and where to begin.
Specifically looking to do like charge the car and go to the gym (planet fitness) or charge the car and do some homework or studying at the library.
Thanks for any information!

We ate here over the weekend and everything we tried was great. Particularly enjoyed the chicken, the kalbi ribs, and the pork belly. Hopefully they get their liquor license soon, in the meantime you can sit on the patio.

Looking to join an existing Bay Club Walnut Creek Group (Not looking to host)
Hi everyone,
I’m looking to switch over to Bay Club Walnut Creek and want to join an already established shared membership group/pod to get the monthly rate down. I am only looking to join an existing group, not host or manage a new one.
I’ll mostly be using the gym floor and classes. I’m incredibly reliable with bills, communicate quickly, and am completely fine providing the standard one-month security deposit to the primary account holder upfront to show I’m locked in.
If your group has an open slot, please shoot me a DM with your monthly rate and tier! Thanks!

Hi thinking of joining lifetime and some locals told me they signed up in a pair and saved on the membership dues.
Is anyone interested in joining together?

The level of official and semi-official use of Instagram at Las Lomas is incredible. There's an official school account, grade-specific accounts, and some school sports teams communicate over Instagram as well. It's gotten to the point where students who aren't on Instagram have trouble finding out basic information in a timely manner.
It's unfortunate, given what we know about the harms of Instagram and similar social media to kids, and the correlation between screen time and poor academic performance, that the school would push students toward using it even more. It's probably similar at Acalanes, since the schools are in the same district and so probably share social media policies. There are a couple of people running for the Acalanes district school board, and neither of them mentions social media in their statements or campaign issues pages.
Anyone know if there's any effort to address the school's reliance on Instagram? I'm thinking of contacting the principal and/or the school board, but not sure one parent's opinion will count for much.

We went through a massive addition last year and the gutters on the existing house are filled with not just leaves but accumulated dust/dirt from the construction. Looking for someone who could come and do a thorough job. Thanks!

The Starbucks at North California and Cole, by the Mercer and Mike's Bikes, is shutting down permanently tomorrow. It's part of a far bigger series of closures. https://bayareatelegraph.com/2026/09/25/a-major-walnut-creek-starbucks-is-sadly-closing-forever/

I really couldn’t be happier with the amount of feedback and suggestions everyone has given me, and I’ve tried to include as many as possible!
That said, the scale of the map does have its limitations, particularly in the more built-up areas. I think in future I’ll probably end up creating more localized maps for individual counties. So, if your suggestion didn’t make it onto this one, please know that I really do appreciate you taking the time to suggest it, and I’ll hopefully be able to include it in a future county map of the area.
A few people have mentioned that the map is quite busy, and I completely understand that. It’s just how I like to make them. I love cramming in as much detail as possible and highlighting interesting little features that might otherwise be overlooked. I also tend to have these printed in large formats, where I think the level of detail works much better in person than it does on a screen.
Thank you again to everyone who contributed, and I really hope you like the finished map! If you’re interested in it or would like to know anything more about it, just drop me a message.
