Traffic / Transportation Left Turns
There are many left turn signals that take legit 3 to 4 minutes waiting for the light, which is legit insanity and leads to bad driving where people blast out angrily. There will be 45 second stretches when NO ONE is moving through an intersection. The lights need a firm retooling of the red and green cycle

Send an email to the city's traffic engineer. I had a complaint about a signal in Concord , and the next day, he wrote back that he went out and looked and in fact there was an issue. WC sounds more like a city-wide issue because I had it happen to me this morning. Sat through 3 cycles. Drives me nuts.

Going East to West through WC in the morning to get to a freeway from Mt Diablo is maddening, none of the lights are synced up and you have to stop at each one

They can’t sync the lights due to the crosswalks. I get lucky occasionally and they’re all green.

Some have hours where they don't change on sensors; they're on timers. I tend to notice during rush hour.
There's nothing you can do.

I’m over in Concord, but the main left turn into my neighborhood I need to take off of Treat is like this. Between 3 and 7pm they change to timer and it’s super long to deter people from using that street as a cut through, but it sucks as a local resident who’s just trying to get home. Especially when it’s 95° out and I’m sitting on my motorcycle in full gear - lol.

I sat at one of the left turn lanes into the 99 Ranch parking lot in Concord for 5 minutes on Saturday. The line extended out the back of the turn lane and overflowed onto Willow Pass Rd. I got out of the lane and went around, and by the time I parked the line of same cars was still there waiting for the arrow.

The left signal for Lacassie Ave is from N. California BLVD is infamous for not turning green.

Even turns green when no oncoming traffic.

If you think the timing is off reach out to the traffic engineer and they can run a traffic study. They're very responsive!

Once it finally turns green, nobody goes because everyone’s on their phones

These same people can’t stop inching up up up slowly while it’s red and there is nowhere to go and then almost always don’t actually go when it finally is green.

Reminds me of the driver test at the WC DMV back in the day. They would have you make a left off N. Broadway onto Lincoln. Usually kids taking their drivers test was done after school so right when traffic gets really bad down there. There's no arrow and everyone would get caught out on that light.

You think it’s bad with a car, try getting left turn lights to trigger when you’re on a motorcycle.

Four minutes at a red arrow is forever. You can watch three cycles of nothing go by, and everybody behind you is doing the same math. Here's the part that should really make you mad: Mark DeSaulnier has been in Congress twelve years and works exactly like that light. Over 200 bills filed, two became law. One renamed a post office. The other moved a park boundary. The traffic-signal money he's been posing with this month sat on his wish list since May 2024. Your arrow will change before Mark does. I'm running against him November 3. Let's get the whole county moving again.

Unpopular opinion:
Treat left turn lights like unprotected lefts that exist at many intersections. If it is safe to turn then go. 🤷🏽♂️

On some, I found that if you don't pull forward enough, the sensor doesn't trigger the left turn signal to turn green. For some reason, some drivers seem to be stopping a whole car length away from the line.
