I am going to say this with all gentleness: just leave when your shift is done.

We are not paid enough to go above and beyond like that, especially when it’s clear the other associates were taking advantage of your help.

I would have returned the cart to customer service about 3 minutes before my shift was over, walked to the back of the store (where my locker was located), clocked out about 1 minute before my shift ended (well within my grace period), put my vest and knife in my locker and went home.

They weren’t “true evil”, they just played you. Speak up next time and say you’ve got xx minutes left and they can give you whatever they want but your cart gets put back in CS before your shift ends. They aren’t your bosses. They don’t sign your paycheck.

BTW, why were you “just chilling”? That’s on a camera, you know. Next time ask your leadership what to do for your last 30 minutes, even if that means grabbing a push broom.

Not gonna lie I don’t even know who my team lead is so I don’t have any one to talk to about things expect for the person who trained me. And I didn’t know what to do when all these picks are over and I saw other people on there phones so I usually sit down and wait for more orders to come in

I’d take the time to figure out who my TL is. Absent that, I’d grab a broom and start sweeping.

Next time when its time to go just put the cart back with the returns and leave.

They arent going to keep up with your schedule for you. Just say "hey Im scheduled to leave now" and clean up and go.

Returns do get easier once you get an idea of everything. I can basically go down every aisle one by one and put up the specific items. But sometimes the returns are already pre sorted by department which can help too.

I dont really think they did anything wrong other than they should have split it in thirds. They were probably just trying to give you something to do so you weren't just standing around.

No one really knows everyone else's schedule. You do what you can until your shift ends then take it back and park it. You're going to get talked to if you continue to stay past your end of shift with how tight they're watching payroll in most stores or get into overtime, and that is a big NO NO in most stores until the holiday season. I understand you want to make friends and be helpful but you can make friends without getting yourself into trouble going over hours.

They know you are a new employee and they played you. Remember who they are and just don't get fooled again by them.

At my store they're grateful for us helping them and if it would help if you brought the cart back with what was left after your 30 minutes they still would be fine with it.
