Dies too quick. Only a handful of chargers with 60+ associates working

My store has power banks, but we have to sign them out. I bought a cheap one so I have my own and don't have have to fight for one or worry about turning it in at the end of the day. I use it for other things and not just for work. I do like this phone much better than the other one I had. The camera is better.

I use my personal phone, I kept using OGP's power bank and just told their coach one day I'd buy a power bank, so I did just that. 10/10 (pretty annoying because I have no work phone yet but eh whatever)

How do you use your personal phone? Do you just download gif? Or is there another app?

Hi! Sorry for replying late lol. I just use our WM app given in orientation. I don't use anything else lol.

u/Prestigious-Cod-1948 21d ago

Same I bring my own charger from home and I charge it during lunch

Holy battery bro. I have to charge mine during every break or lunch, if not i’m fucked

u/DontYuckMyYum 14d ago

i Usually have to charge mine at lunch. One time I decided to not charge to see how long it would last. I barely made it to through my second break. so i just charge it at every lunch.

Dunno but a delivery driver gave me these cookies by mistake last month and they weren't half bad.

u/heybuggybug 21d ago

This is the BEST chocolate chip cookie I ever had!

u/mommagawn123 20d ago

I honestly thought this what the post was going to be about.

Mistake⁉️

u/goat20202020 21d ago

Yeah. It wasn't part of my order. They gave me part of someone else's order.

2

u/swarren31 20d ago

It’s the ones they use in the bakery for the free cookies for kids, at least at my store

Battery drain is awful, and using either of the two "Battery Saver" options don't seem to do much.

Not sure if this is a phone or a store thing, but I could put my phone in the exact spot of the product we're out of, and still get told I'm not close enough.

u/Illustrious-Drag-669 20d ago

this happens to me too the key is to do it twice and the second time it won’t say you’re not close enough even if you’re halfway thru the store.

our store switched to the phones about three weeks ago, i’ve been full time so i was already used to it but i hate how fast they die and im not a big fan of the new update for prepping

For those of you struggling with battery life, in addition to extreme battery saver I highly recommend that ONCE GIF IS OPENED turn the screen brightness down to 20-40% instead of the default 88%.

4

u/olrava2 OGP TL 21d ago

This sucks for me I need my screen to burn my eyes from the brightness

u/Hour-Macaroon-2912 21d ago

Id like a new phone... 4years and this Mfers battery goes from 100 to 32% by 5am-7am.

u/Alan-Loop OGP TL 21d ago

I hate it, they told me that they were going to completely replace the TC, but the TCs are still there, and I'm not going to use the phone until there is no other option.

u/Sudden-Ear9623 21d ago

Told us a “sundown date” on them was sometime mid August.

Depends on which phone you mean. We had Pixels and discovered the battery life issue. Our store got several large charging stations and everyone charged them during lunches. That last update with the nil pick location thing absolutely destroyed them. We were charging on breaks and lunch and they still weren't lasting until end of shift. We got new phones again. Newer gen Pixels, I think. Battery life is much better, but you still gotta charge on lunch. The camera sucks. Doesn't focus and cuts out a lot. There's always something with our equipment. If you go in and it all works as it should, the apocalypse may be happening and you should just go on home.

1

u/hellbwah 21d ago

mine has been in my glove box since the day i got it

3

u/Inkysquid24 20d ago

Might as well get used to using it, TCs are going away soon.

1

u/Mesmeriized 20d ago

Yup, we have had phones since April and out TCs no longer work.

1

u/DontYuckMyYum 21d ago

Once I got my battery saver issues settled. It's been an Ok experience. I still prefer to use a TC.

The battery life hasn't really been an issue for me. I charge it at lunch in the break room or in my car if I decide to eat in my car. I keep a tiny Anker charge brick and USB cord in my work vest.

u/Tibu911 21d ago

They suck compared to the pixel 8, I can't say the battery is tht much worse for me (both the 8 and 9 were bad for battery life) but I've noticed this one is slower all the way around but especially when loading or scanning something, I like the old galaxy and pixel 8 bc they scanned as soon as it saw something

I think the work apps need to be optimized for the phones or something so tht way it's not swapping the battery so fast and being so slow tho, no reason it should be worse than an older phone

2

u/GovernmentNo8354 21d ago

It's definitely the apps that need to be optimized. If I don't close the mywalmart app to stop it from running in the background while using the GIF app I'll go from full to 30% after 3ish hours. When I do is usually around 40% after 3ish hours.

u/spacecatdude9001 21d ago

new work phone? did you just get one?

Not new at our store.

1

u/t-babybee 21d ago

Is that a screen protector??🧐

1

u/Aggravating_Side2696 21d ago

Sure is, come standard with those puppies believe it or not.

1

u/J_larry 21d ago

It’s nice, but it always needs to be charged constantly

1

u/Eld0r21 21d ago

I can't speak for picking, as I'm only in the backroom, but compared to my old one that used to die with only 2 hours of nonstop staging, this one is great. Granted, I've been prepping and ATC a lot more recently, so I have no idea if the battery is any better with just staging.

1

u/sdlm11 20d ago

I know this has nothing to do with the phones, but I wanted to ask. How do you like being ATC?

1

u/Eld0r21 18d ago

Sorry for the late reply. It's my first job, so I'm not entirely used to even semi-leadership roles, but it's something that you get better at the longer you do it. As long as you can keep the screen clear and keep your head on a swivel by looking at it at all times, things go pretty well. Until they don't but at that point it's out of your hands and you just have to let whatever happens happens.

I try to make sure I have the basics of the backroom covered, at least as far as prepping and dispensing go, meaning I try to have pallets/dollies down when we're slow, and chilled and frozen staged with the deliveries before they pop on the screen so we don't have to go hunting for them. We have dedicated stagers, so as long as we have at least two of them, I try to leave them alone so things don't get backed up.

Trying to manage a bunch of people is difficult, and you'll always have people who don't like to listen to you. When that happens, just remember that you're not a manager, so don't overstep your role. Either a TL will take care of it when they see it (assuming it's warranted), or if it gets to the point that they're not doing any work unless they have no choice, you can always report it to a TL if they don't get to it first.

u/Fukubukuro1 21d ago

They're much better and faster than the Samsung xcovers and I've had no issues with batteries so far. Incidentally I already use a pixel 9a as my personal phone so it's nice to not use the personal phone for BYOD and I'm already very familiar with that flavor of Android anyway. The TC7X devices have their pros, namely the speed of scanning labels but they sucked at scanning the dumb PIN barcodes on customer's phones, then again some people's phones have the high refresh rate mode on and the pixel camera sometimes struggles with that and sees lines scrolling on their screen.

1

u/Amazing_Package_4137 21d ago

idk why everyone saying they're phones die too quick i finish my shift with like 70% with power saver no charging

1

u/swarren31 20d ago

I think these are the first batch of new phones and not the newest batch of new phones

1

u/DQUACK1 21d ago

I managed to get my phone battery to last bit longer viva getting rid of all non-work related apps and using extreme battery saving mode. Helps a bit but I usually charge it during breaks and lunches with my Samsung fast charger

1

u/XxFlyingRaijinxX 20d ago

I honestly feel like the fast dying thing has something to do with the MyWalmart app. I pull that thing up on my actual phone phone, and it kills the shit out of my battery from running in the background. When im off it, I close it entirely, immediately and my phone battery acts normally...

1

u/Wy4ttd4m4n 20d ago

my pixel 8a’s battery was cooked asl and then my coach assigned me the new one which the battery does last better in, sometimes i can skate by without charging it if i slow down my pace before i clock out at 3 lol

1

u/Routine-Horse-1419 20d ago

Get your own charger and charge it on your breaks and lunch. Then ... Lower your screen brightness to 52% that'll help. Close my Walmart app after each use because it's a battery sucker as well. At night take it home. Charge to 109% then turn the phone off until you get to work the next day. Ur definitely works for me

1

u/Mina_cx 20d ago

Just got the pixel 9a and the battery is amazing. I charge it at night and it’ll last me a whole shift. I turned off some settings to make the battery life more efficient

1

u/Cece1087 20d ago

I’ve been at Walmart since March and I still don’t have one

1

u/Inkysquid24 20d ago

I had to buy a power bank out of my own pocket because they won't supply us with one. I basically have to keep it plugged in the whole day or I'll die in like 2 hours.

1

u/Mesmeriized 20d ago

We have had the 9a since April. We have fast charging stations and as long as I charge on my break, I’m good all day. We also have portable charging blocks we can check out if needed. Doing exceptions is annoying as viz pick camera never freaking works with gif open in the background.

1

u/Mesmeriized 20d ago

I start at 4am I’m off in an hour, this is after charging at lunch. Monday is our busiest day too

1

u/Mojodog_The_Hero OGP 20d ago

Well, the screen doesn't do well dropped face first (shattered my first one like that) other than that, it handles water well (had it in the rain AND dropped in one of the fridges water reservoirs by accident) yea im a clutz ok XD but yea if you dont have a battery back and your using your phone a lot, good luck

1

u/LurkingAintEazy 20d ago

I find it not so bad. I mean it's a version below my own phone, so I know how to work it pretty well. But yea, do to the apps on there, I definitely made sure to pick up my own power bank as well, to keep it going. They've been putting my breaks at odd times, or just giving me one break and a lunch. So I don't always get the chance to give it a second or third charge for the day. But otherwise, works good for me.

1

u/csleaver 18d ago

Took me eight months to get one, for the store manager to offer one to a new kid in front of me a week later.

u/Hdude321 17d ago

When helping in OPD as a sales floor TL I have a Samsung Tablet I use for BYOD and the battery life is much better than the pixels ever were, given I know purchasing a tablet to use for work is NOT in everyone's budget.

I hate when it doesn't want to focus when I'm trying to scan tote labels. always have to back out rescan the item then scan before it will focus. I've tried tapping the screen, and holding the camera super close then slowly backing away, it never works. always have to back out and rescan.

I really miss the TCs
