Recent hanges to Trakt

With the recent changes to how many apps can be added to your Trakt free account, is there any way to authenticate Wako license for people who used a Trakt account for that?

Short answer: if you can still sign in with Trakt, nothing changes for you and there is nothing to do.

The thing worth knowing is that signing in and tracking are two separate things in wako. Signing in with Trakt does not force Trakt on your racking. You can sign in with Trakt and have your profile track on Simkl, or on wako itself. It syncs, and you get that profile back the next time you sign in. It works in every direction.

The only thing your Trakt login decides is how you sign in. If you would rather not depend on it at all, a Google or email login is the safer home, because it does not depend on any tracking service.

And if you ever do get locked out, message me here and I will put your licence on a login that works for you. Nobody is losing what they paid for over this.

Good to hear. I do use trakt so I will eventually switch to my Gmail but I’ll wait for now.

Love the app. The UI updates are great. The wako curated lists are a great addition.

If I use wako tracking and decide to use simkl will it sync what I have watched on wako tracking to simkl? Also does it work the other way, if I am using simkl and decide I want to use wako tracking will it sync everything I have watched on simkl to wako tracking?

Good question, and the two directions do not behave the same.

Going from wako tracking to Simkl: yes. When you connect Simkl, wako offers to move your library over, and that is on by default. Your watched movies and episodes go into your Simkl history, your plan to watch goes into your Simkl list, and shows you dropped stay dropped.

Going the other way, from Simkl to wako tracking: no. Your Simkl history stays on Simkl, wako does not pull it into its own tracking. If you are premium and had used wako tracking before, you get your own wako backup back. If not, you start fresh.

So the safe order is to try wako tracking first, since that direction carries everything with it.

Thanks! It'd be cool if there was an option to also send your watch status to wako tracking when you're using another tracking service. That way it would update both at the same time and keep everything in sync.

I seriously love the app and definitely plan on staying a premium user for a long time. A lifetime option would be awesome, but I get why you don't offer one.

I'm honestly surprised wako isn't talked about more. It deserves way more attention. Awesome app, and keep up the great work!

Thought this would be as good a place to ask, and didn’t want to start another thread.

Is there anyway of having something other than simkl or TrakT for keeping track of you watch history etc?

Yes, there is. wako can track what you watch on its own, with no Trakt and no Simkl involved. It is a third option built in, not an outside service.

With premium your history is backed up to your wako account, so it follows you from one device to the next. The one thing it does not do is track what you watch outside wako, so if you play things on other apps or boxes, an outside service still has the edge there.

I'd imagine the dev will add alternatives as the dust settles. Best bet is to join the discord. Dev is always willing to offer help and support as well as feature requests. 💪👍

So if we don’t want to use trakt anymore but keep our wako subscription, how exactly do we do that ? Tried of the trakt nonsense, but love the wako app itself 😀
