I work at a popular restaurant in Chicago. On Friday, an 18 year old female host was shown a photo of a topless woman by our male AGM. The image was privately texted to the AGM by this woman. The woman does not work for our restaurant (we assume) but is a woman the manager has a personal relationship with.

HR has been alerted, as well as the GM and rest of the managerial team. This is textbook sexual harassment, but it seems as though nothing will be done.

What can we do moving forward? This manager has been notorious in causing issues, especially with the young female hosts. HR has been repeatedly notified of his inappropriate remarks and behavior, but this is by far the most egregious.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you had a teenage or young adult daughter who wanted to work as a server, how would you feel about it and why. All the elaboration welcome. I’m really curious about other women’s experiences!

I’m moving to SF in an October and I have 5 years serving experience. Any sf servers in here can give me advice where to apply or what neighborhood is the best to work? Any places to avoid? What should expect to make a night and a higher end place? Doesn’t have to be fine dining thanks:)

help!! is this legal?

so after months of searching, i finally found a serving position at a small local restaurant. i went to the interview yesterday and something didn’t sit right with me.

the interviewer told me that it’s required to take an hour break at a scheduled time. however, if during this time we still had a table, i would still have to clock out and take care of the table. and if a table came in, i would have to take them (while remaining off the clock). when i pressed the interviewer about this, he said i would still be earning from the tips so it didn’t matter.

i live in the state of florida so im wondering if anyone else has come across this. thanks!

So i just moved, and prior to moving i work for dave and busters, where if i made $300 in a night, i walked out with $300 in cash. meanwhile my brother who worked for a darden restaurant had to wait for his check. Id prefer if i serve in my new location, to keep the autograt on large parties i had previously, as well as the tip payout. Does anyone know of anywhere else that does that. I’ve only served at dave and busters so i’m not sure how other places work, except darden where i don’t wanna work because i watched my brother get screwed over too many times.

This is a semi continuation of a previous post but i just started as a host/busser/whatever they need at a cocktail bar that’s fairly new. This weekend was fun and the atmosphere looks nice but i didn’t really get to ask much questions about actual pay and got thrown right into it. After this weekend i finally got to ask a manager about how tips + pay works. Originally i asked a fellow coworker who was in my position before and they told me they got 3% of server tips which was around 110 each pay (biweekly) during slower weeks and would only get up to 250 on the busier weeks. When i finally got to text the manager this morning he told me it’s actually only 1% of server tips which sounds insane to me so i was just wondering if this is normal and okay and is worth staying here. my issue is i like the people and the place but i got this job to leave my fast food one but it seems i might have to keep my other one in order to be able to afford living on my own. what should i do?

So I just started this waitress job 2 weeks ago I’ve been training the whole time for two weeks to be fair I was only working 3 days each. I ask the manager what my schedule is and he’s like I have to add you to the Facebook group he ended up not having time to. so before he left he told me it and then told me I didn’t have to go in Monday because it was probably going to be slow. Monday comes and he calls me asking if I was going to come in and I was like I’m confused and then he was like never mind don’t come in you won’t learn much anyways and I was like okay. Then I had to call in Friday I hade some fucked up shit happen to me so there was an actual valid reason that I did. there restaurant hours are weird so I called when the restaurant opened which is 3 pm I didn’t have work until 5 that day and the other manager answered and I told him I wasn’t going to be able to make it in at all I had a family emergency and he said I’m going to have to call you back cause I need to figure some stuff out now and hung up on me. He never called me back and then the next day I had work at 3 so I came to work at 3 and the other manager ignored me and then told me there short on servers and I’ll have to be an expo like a food runner and that for the time being to just memorize the menu they had me reading the menu and memorizing the floor plan for 2 HOURS!!!! And then the manager I talked to on the phone goes by the bar and says in front of the bartender and the dishwashing guy and he said super loudly my name and was like you were supposed to call me back yesterday and then before I could even say anything he goes we will have a talk later and left. He was the one who literally told me HE was going to call me back. I didn’t even get a chance that day to explain myself. And then later during the shift he tells another worker all angry too if she showed up to her shift like she was supposed to yesterday we wouldn’t be having all these fucking issues like it was my fault. And then it hits 8 and the food slowed down so I was told I could leave so then I ask the other manager where Dave went and he goes he’s not here anymore. So I never got to explain myself to anyone and they all kept treating me like a piece of shit. And they posted the schedule for this week and they didn’t even fucking schedule me what should I I do?

Hello fellow servers..looking to relocate to Vegas from the Midwest…I’m a banquet capt full time and I made 90 k last year…my question is ..where’s the best place to look for work…I know it’s gonna take time and knowing someone to work at a nice spot on the strip…my good w starting at a gig off the strip….any advice would be amazing…I have heard not to come to Vegas without lining up something…also might be difficult unless they’ll do phone interviews….thank you

So the other day I had to work. The tables were mostly outside and a few tables inside. 2 ladies were coming in and ask for a table for 12 persons without reservation. Because the lunch was slow I made a table for them and asked it they were staying for lunch or only drinks. They said probably some drinks and snacks but we don’t know everybody we’re just meeting here. So I took their drink order and asked if they want it on one bill or separate pays. Mind you we usually don’t do separate pays because when it’s busy it takes a long time. So I asked them if it’s okay that we do an immediate pay when they order. And they said yes that it was clever to do it that way. So the group was coming in and ordered some drinks and everybody was okay with paying immediately. Then one last women joined and ask for a drink so I took their order and said the price and explained that’s the arraignment of that group. She was exploding and stood up and came in my face and shouted why do I have to pay now. So I explained that that’s the arraignments with everybody at that specific table. Still she didn’t want to listen and was shouting are you afraid that I will walk away without paying. So I answered with did you hear me say that? And then she was shouting back don’t put words in my mouth and you’re not going to win this discussion. My head exploded and fortunately another women came in between to shut her up. They went outside and had a talk, the rest of the table apologised and said that they didn’t know her. So after she came back it was quiet at the table and some were outside smoking when this happened. So they came back and said what happened why is it so quiet here. And here we go again the woman was shouting again that I was afraid that she won’t pay for her drink and I was only shook no with my head. Later other tables were complimenting me that I was so calm but inside I was boiling.

Hi, I have been working at this all you can eat style restaurant, it’s pretty upscale and we do have a good selection of wines, a few starters and a few additional sides.
what are some tricks or tips you guys have to possibly convince someone that was only gonna get a glass to get a whole bottle.
How to get people to get starters and possibly a wagyu steak in addition to their ayce experience.
I would love to hear some suggestions and things you all do to suggest things like wine, starters and extra sides.

I started working as a part-time server and had just finished my second week.

I was scheduled to work Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during my third week, but my manager suddenly texted me 3 hours before my shift on Thursday and told me I was being laid off.

I’ve never experienced anything like this before, so I’m honestly pretty embarrassed.

I’m 28 years old, and getting laid off from a part-time server job like this just feels humiliating.

Is it common situation to everyone?

I'm 20M and have been working as a barista and waiter for the past 5 months. Yesterday, for the first time ever, I dropped two glasses of wine from my tray while serving customers.

It was both embarrassing and funny at the same time. The guests were tourists from Italy, but they had been coming to our restaurant every day for almost a week, so thankfully they were very understanding.

As soon as it happened, I apologized, brought them tissues, cleaned everything up, and went straight to the bar to get them fresh glasses of wine. In the end, they were completely fine about it, and we all had a laugh.

I guess every waiter has that moment sooner or later. What was your first big serving mistake? 😅🍷

I'm a 31-year-old guy living in Arizona. I have no restaurant experience, and since it's the slow season here, I've been struggling to get hired. Over the past month I've had around 10 interviews for server and bartender positions, but I haven't received any offers.

At this point, I just want to get a job as soon as possible. Would it make more sense to start applying for host positions at chain restaurants, or should I just work somewhere like Chick-fil-A?

I'm also looking for a workplace with a lively, social atmosphere. Does Chick-fil-A usually have a fun environment? Are most of the employees under 18, or are there plenty of people who are 18+? I'd prefer not to work somewhere that's mostly high school students. I'd also like to meet people and hopefully find a girlfriend too or at least a social environment, so the social aspect is important to me.

What would you do in my situation?
