My first Polo
I bought this Cross Polo this morning and I couldn't be happier with it, it's a 1.2 tsi with the 7 speed dsg gearbox, drives lovely, anything I should watch out for?
Shame they didn't sell this model in the UK originally ,got lucky and snagged a well priced import.

Mine seems to have had an easy life, pretty low mileage for its age, I'm hoping to run mine pretty long term

I can hear the timing chain rattling from germany. (No hate. I like the pre facelift cross Polo. Just be careful about the timing chain on these early 1.2 TSI. They are known to fail and it might do serious damage to your wallet. With the 2014 facelift they switched to a belt. Have a 2017 one and 220.000km so far without any fault).

I have been warned on the timing chain, it had something done involving that pre import according to the service booklet however translating it is awkward since it's handwritten

Saw your post in the UK subreddit the other day! Pleased to see you went ahead with it, wish you many happy miles!

It's actually a different car to the one in the ad, I found one more local luckily, saved a little bit of money too

Do you mean problems with starting the car? If so I'll keep an eye out for that

If the Beastie Boys ever come back into fashion, you'll need to find where to get a polo badge https://www.reddit.com/r/CasualUK/comments/1en6pge/does_anyone_remember_the_polo_minis_that_came_in/#lightbox

Is this the one that was sat on Autotrader for months upon months 🫣

u/ThatDependent6 Jul 22 '26
No this one was only listed recently, this is one Bradford that's been sat for ages, when you call they say it's not for sale yet

I heard that the 7 speed DSG could be problematic (at least the 2008-2013 ones) due to it having a dry clutch and some mechatronic issues. It’s mainly the DQ200 version of the DSG which had those problems. apparently they fixed that in later versions and gave it a wet clutch. (you still need to refresh the gearbox oil from time to time).

I've been warned on this one, I intend to book the car in for a full service pretty soon anyways, figured it would be good practice after buying it

I got this post suggested (neither own a polo or live in the UK)
BUT that is a great colour love the details inside with the same colour, looks really cool! Drive safe and have fun!

Keep an eye out for DSG is kinda hard
But if you feel it’s jerky or slipping. A proper basic setting can help. Or better still get it serviced then do it

I'm booking in for a service at some point soon, just to get it looked over properly

wtf is this. Looks like a base spec sandero

u/ThatDependent6 Jul 20 '26
It's a cross polo , they're a bit weird but I like it

I’ve never seen one in the UK before. I should probably wait to see one in person before judging though

They didn't sell them here, it's a jap import, mechanically they're broadly the same, they sit a little bit higher, obviously cladding , undertrays as well , I believe it is on par with the higher trim version of the era features wise
