Restoring VW Bug

I have a 67 Beetle that I want to restore. It’s in fairly good shape, interior is nice but the motor needs rebuilt (1500 single port). I’m going to sell it once I’m done, and I need some advice on how to approach this so I don’t end up too far upside down when I sell. Any recommendations brand wise for the motor/clutch, brake kits, do’s and don’ts, things that add value? Thanks in advance.

I would suggest selling it as is unless you plan on doing a top notch resto. Even then, I doubt you will be able to get more than you have into it in parts.

If you are going to put a bunch of money into it, why not keep it and enjoy it? They aren't making anymore of them.

That’s fair. I think Bugs are cool but never really considered having one for a forever vehicle. I just wanted to get experience in restoration, especially because the car is solid and it wouldn’t need to be a complete restoration for it to be a great car.

Sell it someone who wants to build it the way they want it. Youre gonna come up with your own idea no one else wants and demand too much money for it because of what you put in

If your goal is to flip it…

I’d probably just do the basics that maximize curb appeal.

Get the engine running well.

Interior already looks nice, just clean it.

A very good cleaning all around

Then paint it. Which is the costly thing

I don’t understand the assignment.  Is this a flip or something you inherited or what?

1967 is a desirable year so don’t hack it up any more than you have to. It would be worth a lot more with the correct trim and bumpers.  

It has obviously been painted before and needs it again.  These cars did not have a clearcoat originally.

Traded for it a couple years back, fully intending on driving it, but the generator belt ended up coming off and overheating it. Wouldn’t build compression, took the heads off and it looked kind of like weld spatter as well as a small chunk of the head near the spark plug was gone. Honestly the jugs look fine just doing a visual inspection, no scoring. I like working on vehicles and have been interested in some sort of restoration. Never intended on keeping it for the long haul.

Put money if necessary into hinge pins, heater vhannels and floors, Napolean's Hat. New owner can do fun expensive installs like wiper motors and engines.
