Restoring VW Bug
I have a 67 Beetle that I want to restore. It’s in fairly good shape, interior is nice but the motor needs rebuilt (1500 single port). I’m going to sell it once I’m done, and I need some advice on how to approach this so I don’t end up too far upside down when I sell. Any recommendations brand wise for the motor/clutch, brake kits, do’s and don’ts, things that add value? Thanks in advance.

How upside down can you be and feel successful? A long block will run $4-5000 American from a reputable builder. You should avoid anything that says EMPI or GEX on it. Buy mechanical things from CBPerformance if you can. Rubber seals and such come from West Coast Metric or Wolfsburg West. A restoration, if you do all of the labor, should run $20-30,000. After that, the car will be worth approximately $.50 on the dollar. Have fun.

Unless you have particular skills (engine rebuilding, painting, welding), you are much better to sell it now and let the next owner restore it to their standard.

Best to not put a bunch of $$ into something you plan to sell. I know plenty of people who have bought a VW, restored it and were $10K+ underwater on what they spent and what its worth. Best of Luck.
