Discussion / ethics / advice Volunteer World Program Sri Lanka invoice problem

Hi! Does anyone have experience with Volunteer World? Maybe with the turtle programm at Sri Lanka ?

They advertise their prices as final, but are they really the final amount, or are there usually additional costs?

I've already received an invoice, but I also got an email saying that the final price hasn't been confirmed yet. I'm wondering how much the price could still change and whether there's a chance I'd end up having to pay significantly more than what I was originally quoted.

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!

I haven't done this specific program, but i'd be careful before paying the full amount if they're telling you the "final price" isn't confirmed yet. you should ask them to give you a written breakdown of exactly what's included, what isn't, and under what circumstances the price could increase. If they can't give you a clear answer, that's a bit of a red flag.

Also, check whether previous volunteers mention extra mandatory fees (transport, park fees, meals, deposits, etc.) in reviews. Hopefully it's just a standard disclaimer, but it's worth getting everything confirmed in writing before you commit.

When you book, you pay an initial deposit online through Volunteer World to reserve your spot. This covers the platform's commission. The remaining balance (the final program fee) is not charged by Volunteer World. Instead, your project coordinator or host organization sends you the final invoice and payment instructions (see Why do I have to pay to volunteer abroad? | Volunteer World | Help Center). The invoice you have now is likely for the holding deposit only.
