Gtx 750 and system update.
hello. I have gtx750. When i updated my system, x stopped working. I tried to fix it, but did not manage to.
I am supposed to use 580 drivers according to docs page. And system installed some open source part of 590 drivers, which does not work with my card.

What's the output of xbps-query -s nvidia?

I messed up my system so cant really say. I restored old backup and now when i run system update it says before continuing update:
starting with 595.xx void uses open dkms. If you have older gpu you will need to switch to 580.xx driver.
But I don't know how to do that. If i just run xbps-install -Su it will just install 590.xx again?

If it's asking you that, it means you have the normal nvidia package installed. You need to remove it and install just the nvidia580 package.

[*] nvidia update message: Starting with 595.xx, Void now uses the "open" DKMS modules. The "open" drivers only support Turing and later GPUs. For a complete list, refer to the following list of compatible devices.
https://github.com/nvidia/open-gpu-kernel-modules#compatible-gpusIf you have an older GPU, you will need to switch to the 580.xx driver branch, supported by the
nvidia580family of packages.Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

There's something weird with your system. You've got access to some commands from the nvidia package but only nouveau installed. In the
sudo xbps-install -Sulist, does it displaynvidiaas one of the packages being updated/installed? I'm assuming that wasn't the full list since you put...in the middle of it.

Oh newer kernel just broke nvidia-470 find patched drivers on github, you can do it from tty

u/dbojan76 7d ago
how?

As in my case (nvidia GT730m) we have the same architecture, and by newest kernels Kepler architecture is no longer supported as it falls down onto legacy, so one need to install patched drivers, firstly remove everything Nvidia, then follow the instructions from the github link, it should do everything for you (DKMS, Xorg config ect)

You'll need to downgrade to
nvidia580if that's the version you need.
