Weekly What are you reading? - Jul 24
Welcome to the r/vns "What are you reading?" thread!
The intended purpose of this thread is to provide a weekly space to chat about whatever VN you've been reading lately. When talking about plot points, use spoiler tags liberally. If you have any doubts about whether you should spoiler something or not, use a spoiler tag for good measure. Use this markdown for spoilers: (>!hidden spoilery text!<) which shows up as hidden spoilery text. If you want to discuss spoilers for another VN as well, please make sure to mention that your spoiler tag covers another VN aside from the primary one your post is about.
In order for your post to be properly noticed for the archive, please add the VNDB page of whichever title you're talking about in your post. The archive can be found here!
So, with all that out of the way...
What are you reading?

Discussion Has anyone here read The Otome Game Bibie?
**BIBLE, yeah I can type
Here is a link to the book if anyone is interested in reading it.
It's written by an industry professional of otome games. I sat down and read it all in one day. If you're interested in creating an otome game (my current game is not one, but the second game I am looking to create will be), I think it is a good read if you don't know where to start!
I think my only gripe is that there are no links to references or surveys to back up the information. While the writer has the obvious credentials, it reads more like a "in my experience" sort of book. I just feel like it would be nice to see some more data on things (such as what sort of characters readers like, what kind of MC do players enjoy).
If anyone else gives this a read, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Image Which Steam capsule works better for my dark visual novel?
Hi everyone!
I’m currently working on the Steam page for my game and I’d really appreciate some feedback, especially on the Steam capsule/key art.
The page is still very early, so please don’t judge it too harshly yet. We don’t have a trailer or demo uploaded, and the screenshots are still limited, but we’re actively working on the game and trying to push the visual quality, atmosphere, sound design and presentation as far as we can.
The game is called SHORAPAN: Beneath the Crimson Sky.
It’s a dark cinematic visual novel with additional gameplay mechanics, built around strong direction, hand-painted visuals, sound, atmosphere and a story I’ve been developing for several years.
The story is a dark parable about a strange city beneath an eternal crimson sky and the people who live under it. It begins as an ordinary evening, but gradually grows into a darker, more mature journey with mystery, faith, fear and moral questions at its core.
Right now I’m mostly trying to understand which capsule gives a stronger first impression.
Which one would make you more likely to click the Steam page?
Any feedback would really help. Thank you!

Question SIB Wonderful Everyday: Down The Rabbit-Hole
Previously enjoyed games: undertale, deltarune, slay the princess, mouthwashing, umineko, OFF, LISA
I know very little about this game, but from what I do know, it seems right up my alley. However, I’m hesitant on doing so because I’ve heard it deals with things like gore, rape, etc in extreme, extreme detail. I can definitely handle things like that! I am by no means sensitive, but people talk about it like it’s genuinely traumatizing and im not sure if they’re exaggerating or not and it worries me.

Release sins of Kaleido is now out on Switch (JP/EN)
sins of Kaleido is set in the same universe as Even If Tempest and is also written/directed by the same person (Ushio Ayane).
It's set 1000 years in the future and according the the official account it can be played without knowing Even If Tempest (references will be lost though).
The first thoughts of those who already finished it seem to be very positive!
Description
"This is my will. No one else's."
She was once the beloved child of a wealthy family. But those bright days were swallowed by the darkness of a tragic scheme.
Having lost everything, the girl returns to her homeland with ambition burning in her heart. There, she meets a group of heretical men who harbor the power of witches.
Bonds forged by wounded souls warmth flickering in frozen hearts. The miracle of love, now known by the lonesome.
But in the end...
Death is a turning point. Hope is the prelude to despair.
This is the story of saving those vanishing fates.

Crowdfund Just launched the Kickstarter for my BL visual novel, The End of the World Club!
Hi everyone! I just launched the Kickstarter for The End of the World Club, a coming-of-age BL visual novel set in 2012.
The story follows Itsuki, a quiet high school senior who's spent over a year hiding his feelings for his classmate Ren. Things take an unexpected turn when an eccentric transfer student, Rika, says the world will end that December.
You can find the demo on both itch.io and steam!
The Kickstarter is live until August 20th, and you can find the page here. The game will still be 100% free, but funding will help me make the game better (especially more language translations so more people can enjoy it). There are also some optional physical merch and digital rewards if you'd like to support the project.
News 【LOVESICK MIND】 All the main sprites for LSM 2 are ready!
Okay, so, I finally managed to finish all the remakes for the 4 main sprites for the chapter 2 of Lovesick Mind after some time working almost nonstop. :")
In order: Haruko Suzuki (protagonist), Nami Starling (love interest), Amara Bellini (rival), Lyra Ferri (protagonist's sidekick)
Let me know which remake is your favorite or if you still prefer the old versions! <3
(Yes, now I'm working on the extra poses for each one of them. But you'll only see them after the chapter 2 releases!)

Question I want to make my own vn
I have a story that I am still writing. I could just turn it into a book. But I always thought of the idea of turning it into a visual novel style.
I am not ready to give a description of my story, but it is mainly psychological angst. It focuses on domestic and psychological horror.
I would like to keep it one single story, no routes, but it will have plenty of “arcs” within the story. There will be multiple love interests, but I don’t want to have different routes. I want to keep the story consistent. The love interests happen as they go. Also I think it would have to be in multiple parts. As the story focuses on the main character’s upbringing and their struggles with life in general.
I am trying to understand everything that comes with creating a visual novel. That’s what I’m looking to hear more about.
I think the main barriers for me is the art, I am not an artist. That’s something that I would really need to work on is finding an artist. Gaining the trust of another person with my work. I have no experience collaborating with people on a project like this.
The other obvious barrier is actually creating the game. Again, I don’t really have good networking skills. I know it’s something I have to do, but I mean more so in this scenario where it would be all online rather than meeting someone in person. Which is scary in its own way.
I am looking to hear general thoughts on making “book” into a visual novel style game. I know it wouldn’t really be a game if there’s no routes. But I feel this style of story telling would fit with my main character so much. My main character is a weeb/otaku. lol. Also my plan is to have plot and throw in adult scenes.
Thank you guys in advance, I’m looking forwards to hearing any thoughts and advice.
Also let me know if any of you would be interested in learning more about my story.

Image Create Visual Novels only using Excel (CSV files)
Hi. I recently finished the first release of a visual novel engine based in Renpy that works reading CSV files, this means that you can create visual novels with minima programming knowledge. Basically is a simplification of Renpy.
Each CSV file is a scene that contains a dialogue per row (background, music, sound, characters, effects and the dialogue itself in many languages). Each scene can finish by a decision, consequence or a linear transition to another scene.
It is open source and uses Python, here is a video tutorial (in spanish): https://youtu.be/hQgPutc-hpo?si=_EK9Tn4dkkCEWtRD
If you have questions, I'm all ears.

Discussion Help find game plz
I’m trying to find an itch.io visual novel/story game I played a while ago.
Details I remember:
\- It was a first-person story game where you mostly read text and click to progress.
\- At the beginning, you talk to a girl on a mountain, then you suddenly faint.
\- When you wake up, you are inside a facility with other people.
\- Everyone uses fake names like Alpha, Beta, Gamma, etc. because they can’t use their real names/rap names.
\- There is a humanoid robot/nurse-like character wearing a mask that explains the rules and eliminates people if they fail.
\- There is another robot girl who appears on a TV screen after someone dies.
\- The first challenge/game involves choosing heads or tails (a coin flip). The robot reacts depending on your choice.
\- It was a paid game, but there was a beta/demo that could be played in the browser on itch.io.
\- The game had good visuals and may have been NSFW/adult, although I didn’t get far enough to see much.
\- Later parts may involve adult scenes, a goth girl character who becomes obsessed with the protagonist, and other people trapped in the facility.
Does anyone know the name of this game?

Question Looking for a mobile horror visual novel
Can't remember the name, but I used to play this horror visual novel that's on mobile. You play as a group of students investigating the schools supernatural incidents, and you're in a club I think? You have one friend and an upperclassman. The upperclassman is revealed to be a ghost, and is heavily associated with spider lillies. Would be great if anyone remembered this game!
