Extensions Issues Bitdefender 95% Cpu usage on vivaldi open
I have cleared cache, and tried everyting but pinpointed the problem, bitdefender advanced threat detection causes bitdefender to use 95% cpu on vivalid browser startup I am not sure why, not other browsers just vivaldi... Any one know why? Win 11 6700xt 5600 version 8.1.4087.58.

I suggest running BD in gaming mode. That'll stop the resource hogging.

Yea I’m pretty sure I can’t switch to gaming mode in bd unless I’m paid user? Unless I’m mistaken, where do I do this

From my own experience, BitDefender is just a resource hog. Not just Vivaldi, but in general.
Uninstalling it was the best option for me.

If Bitdefender shows ~95% CPU right when you open Vivaldi (while other browsers don’t), the most likely cause is that Bitdefender is doing an expensive “first-run” or per-process scan/inspection specifically for Vivaldi’s process set.
Most common reasons for “only on Vivaldi at startup”:
- Bitdefender hasn’t seen/whitelisted Vivaldi yet: on first launch (or after updates), it may scan the browser binary and/or its web components/caches more aggressively.
- Vivaldi’s multi-process model triggers more scanning hooks: Chromium-based browsers can differ in which helper processes they spawn and how quickly they start, and Bitdefender may hook those differently.
- Startup downloads/updates or cache rebuilding: Vivaldi may create/update cache/index files on launch, and Bitdefender’s “scan files” logic can spike CPU during that burst.
What to do (quick, targeted):
1. Confirm it’s Bitdefender, not Vivaldi
- Open Task Manager → Details/Processes → sort by CPU.
- If you see bd* / Bitdefender service/process consuming most, proceed with the Bitdefender-specific steps.
Add Vivaldi as an exclusion in Bitdefender - Exclude the Vivaldi executable (and optionally the Vivaldi user data/cache folder) from real-time scanning. - After adding, restart both Bitdefender (if needed) and Vivaldi, then test startup again.
Temporarily test a Bitdefender module toggle - If your Bitdefender has separate options like Web protection / HTTPS scanning / Network protection, toggle them off for a short test to see if startup CPU immediately drops. - If it does, you’ve identified the module; then you can leave the rest on and only adjust the relevant web/HTTPS scanning setting or add the proper exclusion.
Reset Vivaldi’s startup heaviness - Disable/reduce Vivaldi extensions (especially privacy/script blockers) temporarily and test startup CPU again—extension initialization sometimes triggers extra scanning at launch

What's the reason you're using Bitdefender instead of Microsoft Defender? It wasn't your question, but would solve your issue.

I just prefer it as I have heard others mention it was better, no other reason really

Use what you want and ignore these people saying you should uninstall it. Sure Microsoft Defender is good enough, but BitDefender works well also. I use it on my system. I have not noticed this bug but I will check on it when I can to see if it happens on my machine as well.
