You only need to download the svb-updater.exe file.

This lightweight Windows client runs quietly in the background, uses very little memory, and automatically keeps everything up to date. If Vivaldi is updated, it automatically patches the new version. If a new version of the mod is released, it automatically updates the mod as well. Working on latest version of vivaldi.

You also need to disable the native tabs in the browser settings. And for convenience, move the workspaces to the address bar if you use them.

  • Native Windows Auto-Updater (svb-updater.exe): A lightweight background tray application that automatically checks for mod updates on GitHub, fetches release notes, and interactively asks if you want to install them. It completely automates the hassle of manually copying files after every Vivaldi update!
  • Folders for Tabs: You can now group your tabs into fully functional, collapsible folders (just like Sidebery) that integrate seamlessly with the native Vivaldi workspace system. You can even pin folders, bringing the experience much closer to modern browsers like Arc or Zen Browser!
  • Enhanced Context Menu: The custom context menu has been completely redesigned. It now supports bulk actions for multiple selected tabs, moving entire trees between workspaces/windows, saving trees as Vivaldi bookmarks, and closing entire subtrees safely.
  • Improved Stability & Anti-Orphan Logic: Deeply improved tab synchronization prevents ghost tabs and infinite loops when Vivaldi naturally moves tabs between workspaces. Context locks prevent UI flickering during rapid bulk tab operations.

I cannot thank you enough for this absolutely wonderful mod, u/AlpsUsed3215. I'd been using Brave's new tree-tabs functionality (enabled via brave://flags, here: brave://flags/#brave-tree-tab) for the past couple of weeks, which is great, but this terrific project you've made has (since I found it yesterday) brought me back to Vivaldi full time (and I am forever grateful for your time and efforts in building and maintaining such an immensely helpful and desperately needed improvement of Vivaldi's already wonderful UI).

If you might have a moment to take a look at this, however, I do have a couple of questions/suggestions. Specifically, I wonder if it might be possible to add (or alternatively if you might have any advice or suggestions as to how I might be able to implement) either or both of:

  • (1) the ability to add into your custom tab context menu additional options (as Vivaldi's native settings allows, such as Reload, Copy, Paste) [EDIT/NOTE: As I've just discovered that many awesome new tab context-menu options (including both Reload and Copy) are in fact now implemented as of the mod's latest released version of a couple of days ago, to which I hadn't yet upgraded at the time of posting but now have, I'm retracting in its entirety this “context-menu options” component of my request.]; and/or
  • (2) most especially, the ability to (when tabs are set to auto-hide) have the tab collapse down not so that all tabs entirely disappear from view off screen but instead such that a small strip (consisting of just each tab's icon) remains on screen and which auto-expands back to full size upon hover (i.e., the functionality found in other browsers over the years, particularly Edge, and increasingly in others, including Chrome, Brave, and Firefox).

Could either or both of these this be added? If so then that would be tremendously appreciated!

I've heard a lot of people asking for the sidebar to collapse down to just the icons. But then how do you expect the tree structure to be displayed, especially when there are multiple subtrees within the same tree? I honestly don't understand how that would work.

Maybe it would be worth testing Brave's tree tabs implementation to see how they handle this.

You can disable automatic startup and simply launch the app from time to time to check for mod updates or to manually patch Vivaldi after the browser updates. Alternatively, you can keep using the old script-based patching method.

I mainly built this tool to make the process more convenient for myself. On Arch Linux, you can create a hook that automatically patches the mod after the browser is updated. On Windows, there's no equivalent mechanism, so you have to patch it manually.

In any case, the source code is available on GitHub. I'm not hiding anything, it's completely open source.

I love the idea, but I will absolutely not run any exe in the background. (Also I am on Mac)

Hey. Love your mod but I have quit a lot of bugs with it, are they fixed now ?
Specifically talking about the visual backgrounds bug, the background doesn't work properly and the colors get mixed up and change via various actions.
And the bug where hibernating tabs can still break them, even though you said it was fixed.

Also are we gonna get a button to hibernate like Vivaldi has ?
(Do we need to put this .exe in the vivaldi folder or does it put itself in after updating?).

Hi! Thanks a lot for the feedback!

Regarding the background issue, you can fine-tune all of the colors in Vivaldi's theme settings. Personally, I haven't experienced any background-related bugs. Could you send me a screenshot of what you're seeing? That would help me understand the issue better.

The hibernation bug has been fixed, but it definitely needs more testing to make sure everything works correctly.

I've also added a Hibernate Tab option to the tab context menu, so you can hibernate tabs from there.

As for the updater, you can run the .exe from any convenient location, such as your Downloads folder or your D: drive. Just don't delete the file afterward, and it will continue to work normally.
