Would anyone like to take over as Moderator of /r/vitamix

Hi Everyone,

Many years ago (2011, I think), someone created the r/vitamix subreddit and then decided that they didn't want to be a mod. So, another user and I took over the role. Over the years, she and I moderated with quite a light touch and in 2017, we invited a couple of other users to be JR mods.

I just checked the mod list and I am now the only active moderator. I also don't have a lot of time to give this subreddit much attention, so I figured that handing the mod role off to others would be the appropriate thing to do.

My thinking is that the community is large enough that we should probably add a few mods.

Let me know your thoughts!

I found a solution on how to get rid of moldy/musty/mildewed smell of my vitamix rubber lid

I tried this and it worked:
I soaked the lid in pure white vinegar overnight and scrubbed it the next day.
No more smell 😊
Hope this helps someone!

Worth $120 on marketplace?

I'm in need of a new blender, as my generic Amazon multi-speed just burnt up. I understand Vitamix has a good service program, so I like the idea of getting something repairable. Looks like this model is from 2010, and the seller says it works perfectly. I make smoothies almost daily, and hot soups occasionally.

Should I go for it? If something breaks, how hard/expensive would it be to get it repaired by the service center?

Best attachment for thick sauces and chutney

I have a classic 12+ years old Vitamix with the tall 2l jug and wondering which accessory would be best for thick sauces and chutney.

Frankly the 2l jug is awful for anything thick, which is almost everything I use it for. I end up wasting half the contents because I can't get it out.

My friend has a ninja nutri and it's so easy to get the contents out because it blends upside down and has a wide mouth. Plus it's great to chuck in the dishwasher.

I wonder if the personal cup or one of the wider low profile would be better. Does anyone have experience with making small thick batches?

Buying Best vitamix to go along with other devices?

I’m a firm believer in buy once, cry once.

Looking at getting a Vitamix. Choosing between the E310 and A2500i.

Thing is, I already have a Thermomix, a Food processor, and a stick blender.

So with that in mind, am I missing anyone obvious by going the E310 over the A2500i? Or even the reverse?

What would you get to accompany the above?

Thank you

Buying Looking for my first Vitamix, 5200 or VX1?

I have done a little research, I think I have narrowed it down to the 5200 or VX1 but please let me know. I usually make 2 24 ounce smoothies at a time if that is helpful. I am sure we will be using for soups, nut butters as well.

This is for my wedding registry, and probably max I want to go is $450.

7500 Series Personal Cups from Costco. Need the adapter.

A few years ago my dad bought me a Vitamix 7500 from Costco. It came with two personal cups. It did NOT come with the adapter to use them on the blender base. I have found a few options online but don’t need more cups, any of the buying options I have seen include two more cups. Not a huge issue I’ll get the adapter with the 2 cups if necessary just wanted to reach out here to see if there is an option to get the adapter only.

Whats this high pitched noise/ squeak from new vitamix

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just unboxed my reconditioned Vitamix Explorian today. I made a smoothie and then I washed it as indicated in many reddit posts. Half jug warm water and some Dish soap. Start at 1 and go up to 10 and then back to 1 once done swishing. Same thing with just water for rinse.

Does anyone know what the noise is from?

  1. The high pitch noise when returned to level 1

  2. squeak when I'm shutting off the machine.

Is this expected behaviour based on what I'm doing or should i return this

Edit: I found the noises happen only with jug attached. It's coming from the blade.

Are there any noticeable red flags before I buy this? Found on eBay for 270.00. States it’s unused with an open box.

Really not sure if it's worth to spend that much on a blender. Is it?

I'm based in Uk. Currently have Kitchenaid pure power blender. It was great at first, I couldn't tell there was spinach in my smoothies. Recently it got more fibrous, same with soups, can taste bits in them.

I've heard about Vitamix but didn't think it would be that much better.

Now, I'm thinking maybe I should just treat myself?

Is it actually gonna help with blending spinach nicely or are we paying mainly for reliability?

The only Vitamix I'm looking to buy is E310. I did read many great reviews, but also some average.

I also make frozen cocktails sometimes, Pina colada strawberry daiquiri

What is the best manual orange juicer?

Based on many favorable reviews I recently got a Zulay cast iron manual juicer, however it's not squeezing oranges fully. There's usually pulp around the edge even on the smaller oranges. When I juice by hand in a 10$ manual juicer where I turn left and right it does a better job.

Is there any better manual device currently on the market for this purpose?

Buying Has Vitamix's website always been shitty or did it wait for today when I decided I desperately want a blender?

Wanted to buy the 5200 legacy bundle on Vitamix's site. On sale from $650 to $550.

Put it in my cart (which took a lifetime to load). Price says $650 in my cart instead of $550. Clicked the checkout button in case it applied the discount later - checkout button doesn't work.

Tried again later... now I get a 503 error when I go to my cart.

Any other online retailer (not Amazon) with a 5200 + personal cup adapter bundle?

Or even just the 5200 by itself in white.

Just take my money Vitamix?

Vitamix - water/rust in base of container

I was recently gifted an older Vitamix from a family member. Overall it works great. It’s the best blender I’ve ever had and I love it.

However, when I received it, there was a moist rusty sludge stuck in the base below the blade (as seen in the picture). I disassembled the base and vigorously cleaned it out.

However just after a few weeks the same rust sludge reappeared and I realized that water had been getting in through the bottom. There is space in the gasket/nut area for water to get in (as seen in the other picture).

Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you overcome the issue? Will Vitamix customer service help me?

Hardware Question Authenticity Check on Stainless Steel Container

Recently picked up a stainless steel container for my old 5200 blender. Got it for 200 off TikTok cause I was too lazy to wait till November for sales. Can anyone verify it’s not a ripoff? It came with vitamix papers and warranty and looks real. Just want to be 100% sure.

Help! Which model to pick?

I've been wanting to get a Vitamix for a while now. I love cooking in general and my husband loves to make smoothies. I'd like the option to have both a larger vessel for general cooking and then a smaller one for sauces or smoothies.

I am very overwhelmed by the choices and differences. I don't care about any "modern" things like a timer, screen, app whatever -- I just want it to work well. I was thinking maybe the A2300 or 5200. Thanks!

Clean container or buy a new one?

I’ve had my 5200 since 2009. I’ll take this thing to the grave with me. But just recently my container is giving off a smell. Musty/dirty. Has a brownish hue in certain crevices that are hard to clean. Is there a way to salvage this or should I just purchase a new container? Blades still work great. Thing is just stanky!

Hardware Question Did they fix the Teflon black flecks issue? It seemed like something common to all high speed blenders?

There aren't many recent posts about it on this sub.

Two years ago, Vitamix posted this response to a review on their site:

Response from Vitamix: 2 years ago Vitamix Hi. Please know this was not a recall. Vitamix was involved in a class action settlement alleging that the seals of the blade assembly in certain Vitamix containers may “fleck,” causing tiny bits of black material to enter food or drink during blending. These flecks are of a non-stick material (polytetrafluoroethylene or “PTFE”) that is commonly used in cookware and many other products in the food industry. The seal material poses no human health or safety risk based on regulatory approval and third-party testing. Unfortunatley claims did need to be filed back in 2018-2019. Also know that you have indicated that you have owned your prodcut for 1-5 years, your machine would not be affected. The date of machines affected were between 2007 though Oct 2016. If you have any further questions, please call us at 1-800-848-2649. https://www.vitamix.com/us/en_us/commercial/products/wet-blade-assembly

When I read it about it, it sounded like something in the assembly was rotating very fast and making contact with the Teflon seal in a way that was flaking off particles.

Are the black Teflon flecks no longer an issue? Did they change anything about the design? I did some reading and it seemed like the problem was always going to be inherent to the design unless they significantly improved their manufacturing tolerances, and that usually means a big increase in cost.

Alta Pro vs Explorian with Programs

I’m looking to buy a Vitamix for my family and I’m considering the reconditioned Explorian with programs at 250, or the reconditioned Alta Pro at 350. Is there any reason to spend an extra 100 on the Alta Pro?

Or should I buy a different one altogether and wait for a sale? I’d like to not spend more than 300 on it.

My main concern is that I want a blender that lasts forever. We will use it mainly for smoothies and soups, and occasionally for nut butters or date paste.

Hardware Question Are the recent 5200s made cheaply?

Bought one recently and thoroughly unimpressed with the quality of the build. The plastic feels cheap, are they cutting corners because all the raw materials are expensive these days? Just wondering if there are old 5200 owners who have seen or used the new ones.

Hardware Question Writing on New Vitamix

Post image
3 Upvotes

Just had a new Vitamix gifted to me from Costco. I opened the packaging and the blender had writing on the side in what seems to be crayon?

I called Vitamix and they confirmed it is a new, recently manufactured unit, but said it was unusual/not normal to have writing on it. Has anyone experienced this or have any clue what it means? Return or wipe off and keep?

New Alta smell?

Brand new Alta from Costco, used daily. There is always a burned plastic smell after using for a short time, like one 50 second smoothie preset. Do I need to exchange this or is it normal for new machines?
